2 . A man on a cruise ship (游轮) noticed there was an elderly lady all alone, and the staff on the ship all knew her. Curious, he asked a waiter about the lady, half-expecting to hear that she owned the cruise line. However, all the waiter knew was that she had been on the last four cruises, back to back.
As he left the dining room one evening, he caught her eye and stopped to say hello. He asked, “I understand you’ve been on this ship for the last four cruises.” She replied, “Yes, that’s true.” “I don’t understand,” he said.
Without waiting, she replied, “It’s cheaper than a nursing home. The cost for a nursing home is at least $200 a day. Here on the cruise, I can get a long-term discount price of $135 a day. That leaves $65 a day for extra. I can enjoy up to 10 meals a day of fantastic food through room service. There are also free pools, an exercise room and nightly shows. Clean daily necessities are provided every day, without needing to ask. They treat you like a valued customer, not just a patient. An extra $5 worth of tips will have all the staff happy to help you.”
“I have the chance to meet new people every 7 or 14 days! Is the TV broken? Need to change a light bulb? No problem! They will fix everything soon and say sorry for the problems. There is always a doctor on board. This is how I want to spend the later years of my life.”

3 . Building a country is never easy. It takes hard work from generation to generation. But how about destroying it? A new report from The Guardian said long time of climate change can do that. The report said Tuvalu will be the first country to be completely lost due to climate change.
Tuvalu is a Pacific island nation with nine islands and 12,000 people. It has long been at risk from rising sea levels. Now, 40 percent of the area in its capital is underwater at high tide. By the end of the century, it is believed that all the islands will be underwater, reported Reuters. So many people in Tuvalu have often moved around the country and even to other countries.
To help with the problem, the country plans to build its country in the metaverse. The digital country will recreate the same landscape and keep its cultural and historical records. No matter where they live in the real world, the people in this country will have their identity and “live” in its online communities. The government hopes to manage and serve them in cyberspace.
This news made many people in Tuvalu excited. But Li Zuxi, director of the metaverse lab of Qingbo Intelligent Technology, said it may not be the best solution.
“Though the digital nation belongs to Tuvalu, it’s still built on a metaverse platform,” said Li. “Now, the metaverse is not mature, which may bring some problems.” He gave us an example. If people from other countries enter the space of the digital country but just show their names, how do people know if they do or do not truly belong to that country?
Li added that instead of trying our best to build digital nations, it's better to pay attention to save the real world now.

Daniella Hudson grew up in a very creative family. “Mum and Dad made all our furniture,” she said. “Not because we couldn't afford it: they just liked making things.
When Daniella visited a design exhibition with her class at the age of ten, she realised she wanted to follow her parents’ example. Since that day, she’s been making furniture. “I’ve learnt by helping Mum and Dad, and through watching videos online.
Her first piece was a table, made soon after visiting the exhibition, and similar to one she’d seen there. “They had furniture from the last hundred years, and I copied a 1920s design.” said Daniella. “Unluckily, no one has wanted tables like that. But I was very chuffed because of the good quality of my table.”
Daniella started selling her furniture at a local market. “This gave me the chance to find out what people thought about my designs. But finally, I had to give up because the market closed down,” said Daniella. “After that, I started an internet business and it was doing so well.”
Recently, Daniella was asked to take part in a local design show. “One of the organisers had bought one of my pieces off the internet. I couldn't believe it when she told me there'd be a thousand visitors.” she said. “I had little idea what visitors would think about it. My furniture is quite different—mine is more traditional,” Daniella said. But Daniella received lots of orders at the show and the future is looking bright for this young design star.

7 . Skiing holiday centers
Windy Pine
The ski and snowboard runs here are high in the mountains so you can be sure of lots of good snow, but they are extremely challenging and only for the expert. Skiers can relax after dark in a number of small restaurants. The airport is a two-hour bus ride away.
Ice Mountain
Come to this beautiful spot if you’re new to the sport. Try out easy ski runs under the instruction of qualified teachers-their services are highly priced and many speak several languages including English. Classes are for adults only. Guest houses provide accommodation with breakfast and evening meals. The center is reached by train.
Fairview
This historic mountain town has much for visitors to see. The slopes don’t attract expert skiers, but are suitable for those wishing to improve their basic skills. English-speaking instructors charge a lot, and hiring equipment is very expensive. This center isn’t recommended for children. The airport is nearby.
Bear Point
This center is a favorite with skillful young skiers who have limited money. Accommodation is reasonably priced and there’s a variety of evening entertainment. However, it’s hard to find a good instructor and you can’t be certain of the snowfall. Cheap flights go to the local airport.
Mount David
There’s good open skiing here, without too many turns, making it suitable for intermediate(中级的) skiers. Equipment hi re is expensive. Accommodation is of a high standard and there are excellent restaurants, but prices are high. The airport isn’t far away.

8 . Compared to most people with disabilities, Zhao Hongcheng is lucky.
Born in 1990, a wheelchair has been part of Zhao’s life since she was 1 year old due to the aftereffects of poliomyelitis(小儿麻痹症).However, it did not stop her from completing her college and graduate studies before becoming a white-collar worker in Shanghai. And now, as a video content creator who has over 84, 000 followers on the video-sharing platform Bilibili, Zhao wants to be a bridge between the disabled and the rest of society.
First attempt
“I made my first video in 2019,” Zhao says, adding that it was also the years he moved to Shanghai. “My original purpose was to find an emotional outlet. I always encountered inconvenience caused by my wheelchair when going out, which made me feel sad. However, I barely had any disabled friends, so I had no one to talk to. I felt quite lonely,” Zhao explains. In 2019, the rising popularity of short videos inspired Zhao.
Under the username Da Chengzi Hao Meimei on Bilibili, her first vlog about a trip to Guangzhou with friends was viewed more than 2, 000 times on the first day, which surprised Zhao. “This made me feel that there were many things worth sharing in my life, and it also gave me a sense of mission,” she explains. That first video has since been viewed over 48, 000times and her fourth video, displaying how she got to work in a wheelchair, made her even more popular.
Rising ambition
After her fourth video went viral, she continued to make short videos and, in 2021.became a full-time content creator on Bilibili. In her video about an accessibility bus tour in Shanghai, she put forward a piece of advice for such facilities. Fortunately, her proposal was adopted by the city and is currently being optimized. Zhao’s other videos, including a list of praise and criticism for various daily travel experiences in Shanghai, have also received wide attention.
“One of the great things about being a content creator is that I feel like I have the initiative of discourse-that is, (talking about)the real difficulties and pains that a disabled person faces,” Zhao says.
Long way to go
Zhao says education and employment are the two major hurdles for the disabled group around her. She explains that she has heard many stories about disabled people dropping out of school and that some students with good grades were rejected by their chosen universities or were persuaded to change majors. Beyond that, some people with minor disabilities, which may not affect their daily life at all, were being dismissed by companies, due to their physical examination reports reflecting their issue.
Zhao says she has developed a new perspective for her videos. “I hope to be a bridge between the wider society and the disabled. I want people to be able to truly experience the life of the disabled and to develop a greater understanding of the group,” she says.
Now Bilibili star uses her platform to promote greater understanding of the lives and needs of disabled people.
