文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了阴阳瑜伽。

1 . In an ideal world, we would be able to devote as much time to sports as we feel we need. But in reality, with growing demands in both work and family, we can only jump at the chance for our physical exercise when we can. Making the most of that time to practice Yin Yang yoga, which mixes the dynamic and slow-paced elements of yoga, helps keep you active and relaxed.

Yin and Yang are the Taoist concepts representing a balance of opposite forces which are also interconnected. Yin is inactive, cooling, and negative, associated with the female force. Yang is   active, warming, and positive, associated with action and movement. They are complementary to one another, as one cannot exist without the other.

Yin Yang yoga is a combination (结合体) of high-energy movement which builds energy, increases strength and promotes stamina (耐力), followed by the more restful practice of Yin to give us a deeper stretch (拉伸) and calm the nervous system.

If you have a busy and active life you may feel more in Yang, so taking some cooler, slower Yin yoga practice into your routine may help you feel calmer and more balanced.

If you are practicing for an hour, divide the time in half. Warm up with sun salutations (拜日式瑜伽), continue into a dynamic flow and then move on to some standing postures. After half an hour your heart will be pumping, muscles tighten up and you are hopefully feeling energetic, but ready for a rest. Then pick five Yin postures to hold for 3-5 minutes, or even longer if you are enjoying them!

As ever with yoga, if you are a beginner or have health issues, always attend a class with a trained instructor first to guide you safely through the yoga practice and avoid injury.

1. What can be inferred from paragraph 1?
A.Most of our sports time should be spent on Yin Yang yoga.
B.We’d better devote as much time to physical exercise as we can.
C.Busy schedule makes it impossible for us to do any form of sports.
D.Yin Yang yoga can be a choice of physical exercise when we are busy.
2. What does the underlined word “complementary” probably mean in the second paragraph?
A.Independent from one another.
B.Competitive against one another.
C.Similar to each other but unable to work together as a whole.
D.Different from each other but together making a good combination.
3. Which of the following might be the advantage of Yin postures?
A.Relaxing muscles.B.Building stamina.
C.Strengthening the body.D.Quickening the heartbeat.
4. What suggestion does the writer give in the last two paragraphs?
A.Hold each Yin posture for longer than 5 minutes.
B.Do not practice yoga when you are not in good health.
C.Start your yoga practice with an expert trainer.
D.Spare half an hour for five Yin postures in every yoga practice.

When you read a book, you’ve probably noticed that a brand new book has a rather special smell,     1     differs from that of an older book. Where does     2    come from? Three source -the paper, the ink and the glue.

Around 200 AD, the Chinese first came up with paper, one of the greatest     3     (invent) in the world. It is made     4     wood. The wood must be processed with various chemicals     5     (add) to change its structure, to remove acid and to whiten the paper. Then comes the ink—there are many kinds. Some fade with time, while others get     6    (dark) than years ago. Finally, different glues     7     (use) to join the sheets together and attach the covers, whether hardcover or paperback. Therefore, you can smell different chemicals     8     (come) out of your new book.

Today, the forms of books     9     (change) dramatically since the birth of eBooks. They might be     10     (convenience), but you can’t give your copy to others as a present, and they don’t smell as nice.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了听音乐是否有助于集中注意力的问题。

3 . It is difficult for a teacher to decide whether to allow students to listen to music in the classroom. Every time students need to write an essay or work on a problem, they say, “Can I put my headphones on? I think better that way.” But is that really true? Does music help concentrate?

Research offers little to back up the idea that listening to music improves concentration. In one small study, 133 students performed reading tasks while listening to either light music, hip hop, or no music at all. Students who performed the reading tasks in silence scored the highest. Music with a higher intensity (强度) like hip hop was more distracting and had a bad effect on task performance.

Volume (音量) plays a more important role than the type of music. The study found that the louder the music, the worse the performance in concentration. The type of music didn’t matter. Data from the study showed once again that silence was the best environment to improve concentration.

However, music has a positive effect on work performance. Studies have showed that listening to music leads to positive changes in mood, as well as creativity. In fact, in music-listening cultures, which students are certainly part of, there’s actually a change in mood when the music is taken away.

It’s hard to convince my students that music doesn’t help with their concentration. Taj, a senior told me, “I wouldn’t be able to concentrate if I were listening to music and trying to read. However, when I write, I feel like music helps me concentrate deeply. I don’t have writer’s block. It’s easy for me to put my words on paper.”

“Maybe not with reading, but when it comes to math, listening to music certainly helps,” Danela told me. “You could actually be singing along with what you’re listening to and doing well in math.”

1. What does the underlined word “distracting” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Making it difficult for someone to concentrate.
B.Causing great excitement.
C.Making someone want to do something.
D.Making someone feel frightened.
2. What can we learn from the small study?
A.Students do well in reading tasks while listening to music.
B.Music can’t improve people’s mood and creativity.
C.Different types of music lead to different performances.
D.The volume of music affects concentration.
3. What do Taj and Danela have in common?
A.They believe music doesn’t help concentrate.
B.They use music to help with their paper-writing.
C.They can’t focus on reading while listening to music.
D.They don’t listen to music while doing math problems.
4. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Should Students Listen to Music?B.Does Music Help Concentration?
C.Is Music Related to Reading?D.Can Music Change Mood?

The use of chopsticks has been    1     big part of Chinese food culture for   centuries. When cooking food or picking it up, a pair of chopsticks always comes for use.

7 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

In 1989, fresh out of high school, I had the difficult task of choosing a career path before college started in three months. In those days in Pakistan, there were limited choices: becoming a doctor or an engineer, or entering the financial world after getting a business degree. I wasn’t interested in engineering, so that I was left with medicine or business. I couldn’t decide.

My uncle suggested that I do a work placement(实习) to experience it for a month in an international company followed by a month in a hospital. After that, I could make a decision. It seemed like a good idea.

I was accepted for a month’s placement at a foreign bank in Karachi. I got a feel of how the world of finance functioned, made new friends, and generally enjoyed the mostly easygoing work surroundings.

The month passed rapidly, and soon I began working at a leading hospital in Karachi. The experience couldn’t have been more different. The hospital had a stressful environment. The days started early (at 7 am, compared to 9 am at the bank), and were filled with endless duties. And the night calls! This was crazy, working all day, through the night, and again the next day.

I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank had offered a more relaxing atmosphere, better working hours and less stress. The hospital was full of excitement, but studying and training were difficult. It seemed that the business choice was going to win out.

Near the end of my month at the hospital, I was driving home after an especially busy night call. In front of me was a public bus, with college students sitting on the top. As the driver weaved through (穿梭) traffic, I could see the boys shaking from side to side.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要讲的是良好的体育精神的好处。

8 . Although most games have winners and losers, the goal of sports is not to win every game. The real goals include getting exercises, having fun, and learning important social skills, like sportsmanship.

Good sportsmanship is all about respect. Good sports respect the other players on their team. They respect the players on opposing teams. They respect coaches and they also respect the referees (裁判) or other officials involved in their games.     1     They shout at their teammates and they talk back to coaches or referees.

Kids usually learn sportsmanship — good and bad — from the adults in their lives.     2     If parents and coaches show disrespect to other fans, referees, or each other, kids will likely act the same way on the field.

3     some of them are very basic and easy to do, like shaking hands with other players before a game. Other examples may take a little more courage, such as acknowledging a great play made by the opposing team.

Learning good sportsmanship is important because it helps you develop an attitude of graciousness (礼貌) and respect that will carry over into all the other areas of your life!     4     Being a good sportsman in the classroom will eventually lead to being a good sportsman in the workplace.

So be a good sportsman in whatever you do!     5     When others see you acting in a way that makes it clear that winning isn’t the most important thing, you can move on to focusing on the important things, like having fun, getting exercise, and improving your skills.

A.Good sportsmanship can be shown in many ways.
B.On the contrary, bad sportsmanship is all about disrespect.
C.The example you set can be a powerful teaching tool for others.
D.Players’ parents and coaches set examples that kids tend to follow.
E.we can be good sports by encouraging others but not laughing at them.
F.Starting as a good sportsman earlier will help you be a good sport as you get old.
G.If you’re a good sportsman on the field, you’ll also likely be a good sportsman in the classroom.
