7 . I came across some excellent tips on how to communicate better with others.    1     For that reason, it’s necessary that we all work on communicating as effectively (有效地) as possible. In order to help us communicate more effectively, I’m going to share the following tips.

Pause(停顿)before replying to others.    2     Sometimes just that 2-3 seconds’ break is just what you need to really understand what someone else has said or to come up with the thoughts you really want to pass on.

Be honest.    3     You don’t have to think about what you’re going to say wrong and you don’t have to worry about uncovering a secret. If you remain honest, you’ll have a much easier time communicating with others and others will be a lot more willing to communicate with you.

    4     Communication can be hard at times, which is why it’s so very important to be both patient and open-minded in communication. No matter what the situation is, there is a way to communicate. Sometimes it just takes time. Be patient and keep your mind open for new ways of sharing and understanding.

Ask for feedback(反馈)from others. When it’s all said and done, one of the best ways you can learn to communicate more effectively is to ask for feedback. Take some time to speak to those who you communicate with frequently to find out how you can improve on your communication with them.    5

8 . We have all been in situations where we have had to talk to people that we didn’t know before. This could be because we are in a lift with them or standing next to them in a line. Generally the situation is more uncomfortable if no conversation is made, so to avoid this we make what is called small talk. Today we will look at when to use small talk and what kind of things are proper to say and what we should avoid at all costs.

The most common situations where we use small talk are when we are forced to be close to people we don’t know. This could be waiting in a long line at the supermarket or sitting in a hospital waiting room. Again it is not unheard of to create small talk with someone who is sitting next to you on a plane if you are both travelling together.

There are several topics of conversation that we can touch on with someone that we do not know and are making small talk with. By far the most common topic the world over is the weather. It is so popular because it is such a simple topic to talk about that everyone notices and has an opinion to express. There are other topics for example if you are at a party and don’t know anyone, it’s likely that you could end up in a conversation with someone talking about sport or where they work.

There are some people who don’t mind talking about anything, but it is important to bear in mind that not everyone likes this. We should be careful when choosing which topics to base our small talk around. The key topics to avoid are religion(宗教),politics and money.

Whether you are a worker, an international student, on holidays or coming back after living away, as long as you are prepared to talk or just listen to people you would not normally get to meet, Belfast Friendship Club is the place for you.

Belfast Friendship Club offers a special welcome to newcomers who find themselves in Belfast for any reason. Belfast Friendship Club works on three rules: equality, respect and unity.


What we do

Belfast Friendship Club meets on Thursday evenings in a non - profit cafe. You can come in to:

● sit around;

● have a cup of tea or coffee;

● get to know new people or meet old friends;

● find out about events, parties and activities;

● learn about volunteering opportunities;

● exchange information about anything. from language or dance


classes to how to find work:

● learn from each other ' s countries, backgrounds and cultures;

● develop support networks and lifelong friendships .

The atmosphere is friendly and informal. Everyone is welcome. You will receive a warm greeting at the door from one of the Club ’s “older” members.


Events and activities
