文章大意:本文为一篇说明文。文章介绍了几种成为一位好父母的方法。

1 . Sometimes it’s easy to get overwhelmed (不知所措的) with parenting. We worry we aren’t doing enough for our children, so we give more. Then we worry we are doing too much, so we pull back. Then we stress out. So if you’re worried about being a better parent, worry no more.     1

●Have a “yes” day. So much of the relationship between a parent and a child is saying no. “Can I wear my shorts to school?” “No, it’s 30 degrees outside.” “Can I walk in the rain?” “No, we just blow-dried your hair.” As a parent, most of the time it’s easier to just say no. So for one day, say yes as much as possible.     2     Let your children know you are saying yes to have more fun with them today.

●Go on a nature walk. The fun part of a nature walk is that you get to do something completely different with your child—something you don’t get to do every day. Before you go out adventuring, get out a bird book, print off an insect guide and go on a long walk. Try and learn together and explore together.     3     Don’t rush and just enjoy your time together.

●Let them dress you up. For one day, let your child dress you up!     4     Let their imagination flow, and get into character once your children have picked your outfit. Then, take it one step further and go out to eat together. Don’t suggest in any way that you look unusual. Just enjoy it.

●Go through old pictures. There is nothing that makes someone feel more loved like going through old memories. Children love to hear stories about themselves. Take an hour, sit down and open up their baby book, a picture album or a Facebook album. Go through the pictures one by one and tell your child about that memory.     5

A.They will feel so special and loved.
B.Whatever they choose, just go along with it.
C.It’s great to join their world by hearing their music.
D.Make up stories about the birds you see as you walk.
E.Try and say yes to things you wouldn’t normally agree to.
F.Take some time to go on a date with each of your children.
G.Focus on these easy ways to connect with your child today.

5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

A boy called Jamy always arrived home hungry every day and his parents couldn’t figure out why, despite making meals for him. When Jamy wouldn’t share what was going on, his parents decided to visit the school principal (校长), hoping the principal could offer some insight.

After talking with Jamy’s classmates, the principal and his parents heard a story they weren’t expecting. Although Jamy never talked about it, his classmates told them that he always came to school without food. The principal and his parents were shocked. No wonder Jamy was always so hungry after school! Was there something happening on the way to school that Jamy didn’t tell them?

To make the situation clear, the principal asked Jamy’s teacher, Callum to talk to Jamy in private. During the conversation with the teacher, Jamy refused to say any further details about the situation, leaving everyone frustrated and helpless. And despite multiple questioning, Jamy still refused to say any knowledge of the situation. This left the principal with no evidence to take any action regarding the missing lunch of Jamy.

Jamy’s parents were becoming increasingly concerned as their child continued to come home from school without saying a word. Despite their meeting in the school, they thought that they hadn’t gotten any closer to uncovering the truth about why Jamy was always so hungry. The lack of communication from their child only added to their frustration and helplessness. They knew they needed to take action, but they had no idea where to start.

Determined to get to the bottom of the problem, Jamy’s father decided to take action again. The next day, Jamy’s father went to school and requested to speak with Jamy’s teacher Callum.

When Jamy’s father reached the school, Callum spoke with him and patiently answered all of his questions. However, despite a deep conversation between them, no conclusion could be reached, which still puzzled Jamy’s parents.

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Sara was always fascinated by art. From a young age, she would spend hours painting, lost in her colorful world. However, growing up in a small town, opportunities to learn and grow as an artist were limited. Her art teacher, Mrs Thompson, saw great potential in Sara and believed she could achieve something extraordinary. Mrs Thompson was more than just a teacher; she was a guide, teacher, and friend to Sara. She recognized Sara’s talent and dedication to art and decided to help her reach new heights. She arranged extra classes, provided art supplies, and even introduced Sara to local artists.

As the town’s art fair was approaching, Mrs Thompson encouraged Sara to submit her work. Sara was hesitant at first, doubting her abilities. But Mrs Thompson’s faith in her was firm. They worked together, choosing the best pieces, creating new works, and preparing for the fair. The weeks leading up to the fair were filled with excitement, hard work, and some anxiety. Sara put in long hours, and Mrs Thompson was always there, offering guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear. Slowly, Sara’s confidence grew.

The town’s art fair was a significant event, drawing artists and art enthusiasts from nearby areas. It was a chance for Sara to showcase her talent to a broader audience and possibly open doors to new opportunities.

Finally, the day arrived, and Sara’s art was displayed. People were drawn to her unique style and emotional depth. The local newspaper even covered her story, highlighting the young artist’s journey and her dedicated teacher’s role. The experience was transformative for Sara, not only as an artist but as a person. She had faced her fears, embraced her passion, and taken a significant step toward her dreams, all with her teacher’s unselfish support.

文章大意:这是一篇议论文。青少年需要在生活中有一种独立的感觉来获得安全感,作者认为父母应该给青少年充分的自由和私人空间。

8 . A teenager needs to have a sense of independence in their life to feel secure (安全的). To some teenagers independence means a lot to them and I think that some parents don’t allow their teenagers enough independence.

Independence has something to do with freedom. Some kids are not allowed to go anywhere alone, and the only thing their schedule includes is going to school, coming home, going to sleep, and repeating the process the next day. Parents tend to be afraid that their kids can get hurt if they go outside into the world. But if parents control their kids too much, they may never learn to live on their own. The best way for a teenager to lean lesson is through experience. I think it is good for teenagers to have freedom.

Teenagers’ lack of freedom can also stop them from having good friendship at school. Some might say this is a good thing, because it helps them focus more on their school work. I argue that this can only discourage them not to do their school work. Some parents do not allow their children to be around their friends outside the school, thinking that this will get them into trouble. But I don’t think so. Instead, isn’t this a good reason for parents to get their children a cellphone? Cellphones allow teenagers to stay in touch with their parents, and communicate with friends.

Privacy (隐私) is another issue between parents and their teenagers. Teenagers tend to enjoy relaxation by themselves in their own room. This also gives them a sense of independence. It often annoys teenagers when their parents enter their room when they are not home. I know that my mom always goes in my room when I’m not home, and this has brought me to the point where I have asked many times to get a lock on my door.

1. What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A.Kids have a dull schedule every day.B.Parents allow their kids no freedom.
C.Kids know how to live independently.D.It helps teenagers a lot to have freedom.
2. Which of the following statements is true in the opinion of the author?
A.It is unnecessary for a kid to have a cellphone.
B.Good friendships between kids harm their school work.
C.Parents should make it easy for kids to communicate with their friends.
D.Kids should center on the school work without friends outside the school.
3. How do teenagers usually feel when their parents enter their rooms in their absence?
A.Disappointed.B.Frightened.C.Angry.D.Calm.
4. Why does the author hope to have her door locked?
A.To keep her father from reading her dairy.B.To prevent her mother entering her room.
C.To protect herself from any harm.D.To stop thieves from going in.
