“You are cheating,” the captain said to the sailor. “The fire's warming you.”
“But it's half a mile away!” said the sailor.
“A fire's fire,” answered the captain. “I have won.”
The sailor came out of the water, and said, “Perhaps you think that you are clever because you have won my wages, but you can't cook a chicken.”
“I can,” answered the captain.
“If you cook this chicken,” said the sailor, “I shall work for you without wages for seven years, but if you can't, you will give me your ship.”
The captain agreed, took the chicken and said, “Where's the fire?”
“There it is,” answered the sailor. “On the shore.”
“But it's half a mile away,” said the captain angrily.
“‘A fire's fire’ you said,” answered the sailor. “If it is enough to warm me in the water, it is enough to cook your chicken.”

2 . Henry Ford was the first person to build cars which were cheap, strong and fast. He was able to sell millions of models because he could produce them in large numbers at a time: that is, he made a great many cars of exactly the same kind. In Britain, you might have a business lunch and do business as you eat. In Mexico and Japan, lunch is a time to relax and socialize. And the Japanese rarely drink alcohol (酒) at lunchtime.

In most countries, showing business cards is important for all introductions. In Japan, you must present your card with both hands, with the writing facing the person you are giving it to.

4 . A musical, School of Rock, which is played at the Winter Garden Theatre, is based on the 2003 hit movie starring Jack Black and opens on Broadway(百老汇).
“The central message of the story,” the show’s composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, said recently, “is about the driving force of music.” Lloyd Webber, who is behind such Broadway hits as Phantom of the Opera and Cats, runs a music education foundation. School of Rock tells the story of Dewey Finn, an ambitious rock star played by Alex Brightman. When Finn’s musical career hits a dead end, he gets a job as a teacher. While in the classroom, he encourages his fifth graders to form a rock band.
All of the actors play their own instruments during the performance. “If you say that you can do it, and you work hard enough, then you can do it,” said Evie Dolan, who learned to play bass for the role of Katie.
While the musical is very similar to the movie, lyricist Glenn Slater added new songs, including You’re in the Band and Stick It to the Man.
“I really love You’re in the Band,” said the musical’s director, Laurence Connor, “I love that moment when the audience sees the children pick up their instruments for the first time and really play, and find rock music for the first time.”
Bobby Mackenzie, who plays Tomika, said that the experience of expressing herself through music has been a pleasing one. When asked what advice she has for ambitious musicians, she said, “If it is really what you want to do, go for it. Work as hard as you can.”

7 . Field Trip Day
On Friday, May 16, our class will take a field trip to North Park Zoo. The zoo has lions, elephants, and other interesting animals. Many of the animals we have been studying will be there for us to closely examine.
Our class will be divided into six teams. Each team will have five students and one leader. The leaders are listed in the table.

What You Need to Know
The cost is $1.00 for students to enter the zoo. We will leave the school at 9:00 a.m. and return at 2:30 p.m.
On the morning of the trip, the students will be divided into teams. One student from each team will receive a camera. The cameraman will take pictures of the team, the animals, and other fun sights at the zoo.
All members should wear blue shirts. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes because we will be walking all day. Please bring a bag lunch and a drink. We will have a picnic at the park inside the zoo. Bring a healthy snack, such as a piece of fruit and a drink, for later in the day.
When we are at the zoo, always remain with your team. Do not leave the team without asking permission from the team leader.
Feeding the Animals
The ONLY animals that students are allowed to feed are those in the children’s Zoo. Special food can be bought at the zoo for 25 cents and given to these animals. Do not feed your lunch to them. It is not food for the animals.
