文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要讲述科学家们正在研究将一些细菌和微型机器人结合起来的方法。

3 . It might seem like something from a science fiction movie, but scientists today are working on ways to combine certain kinds of bacteria with tiny robots. Scientists want to use these creations to improve the way we give medical treatment. They claim that drug therapy (疗法), disease diagnosis, and even surgery could be greatly aided by the use of nanobiotechnology. Nano-means “tiny”, and bio-means “life”. This tiny technology will use living organisms in combination with electronics.

Electronics makers already use tiny robots to build complex but very tiny circuits. Medical scientists want to use these robots to repair patients’ damaged organs or to direct medicines to affect specific cells. For example, tiny robots could be engineered to deliver chemotherapy (化疗) directly to cancer instead of to the entire body.

Existing electronics are the right size, but they lack practical use. Robots that can be built small enough to enter a person’s cells would be too tiny to move on their own. Therefore, scientists want to use tiny organisms such as bacteria to act as vehicles for the robots. The bacteria will be “driven” through the bloodstream by magnetic pulses (磁脉冲). Once the bacteria are in the correct locations, the robots will be able to do their jobs. In theory, these robots will cause less damage to the body than traditional methods of delivering medicines or performing surgeries.

Nanobiotechnology has yet to be put into practice, but many people already have concerns about its use. Some people worry about the ethic (道德标准) involved with controlling live organisms—and the possible side effects for their human hosts.

1. What does the second paragraph mainly talk about?
A.The application of tiny robots.B.The influence of tiny robots.
C.The operation of tiny robots.D.The origin of tiny robots.
2. Which of the following could be a future benefit of nanobiotechnology?
A.Cheaper medicine.B.Less harm to the body.
C.Longer life expectancy.D.Faster performance of surgeries.
3. According to the medical scientists, robots ______.
A.can locate he bacteria.B.are driven by medicine.
C.can act as vehicles.D.are carried by bacteria.
4. Where does the text probably come from?
A.A computer textbokB.A life magazine
C.A science magazineD.A biology textbook

4 . Clothing rental is a hot new industry and retailers (零售商) are demanding to get on board in hopes of attracting green shopper.

But is renting fashion actually more environmentally-friendly than buying it, and if so, how much more? Journalist and author Elizabeth Cline investigated (调查) this question and concluded that it's not as sustainable as it seems.

Take shipping, for example, which has to go two ways if an item is rented — receiving and returning. Cline writes that consumer transportation has the second largest carbon footprint of our collective fashion habit after manufacturing.

She writes, ''An item ordered online and then returned can send out 20 kilograms of carbon each way, and increases up to 50 kilograms for rush shipping. By comparison, the carbon impact of a pair of jeans purchased from a physical store and washed and worn at home is 33.4 kilograms, according to a 2015 study by Levi's.''

Then there's the burden of washing, which has to happen for every item when it's returned, regardless of whether or not it was worn. For most rental services, this usually means dry cleaning, a high impact and polluting process. All the rental services that Cline looked into have replaced perchloroethylene (氯乙烯), a carcinogenic (致癌的) air pollutant, still used by 70 percent of US dry cleaners, with alternatives, although these aren't great either.

Lastly, Cline fears that rental services will increase our appetite for fast fashion, simply because it's so easily accessible. There's something called ''share washing'' that makes people waste more precisely because a product or service is shared and thus is regarded as more eco-friendly. Uber is one example of this, advertised as ''a way to share rides and limit ear ownership.'' and yet ''it has been proven to discourage walking, bicycling, and public transportation use.''

Renting clothes is still preferable to buying them cheap and throwing them in the dustbin after a few wears, but we shouldn't let the availability of these services make us too satisfied. There's an even better step — that's wearing what is already in the closet.

1. What is Elizabeth Cline's attitude toward clothing rental?
A.Approving.B.Unfavorable.
C.Objective.D.Enthusiastic.
2. The Uber example in Paragraph 6 indicates that      .
A.rental services are on the rise
B.clothing rental will be as successful as Uber
C.renting clothes might waste more than expected
D.renting clothes might make people lose interest in fast fashion
3. The author suggests that we should      .
A.give up renting any clothing
B.purchase inexpensive clothes
C.rent clothes rather than buy them
D.make full use of clothes we've possessed
4. What is the passage mainly about?
A.Clothing rental is a new fashion.
B.Clothing rental is retailers' preference.
C.Renting clothes is not that eco-friendly.
D.Renting-clothes business is in a dilemma.

9 . Public Speaking Training

Get a coach

1    , so get help. Since there are about a billion companies out there all ready to offer you public speaking training and courses, here are some things to look for when deciding the training that's right for you.

Focus on positives

Any training you do to become more effective at public speaking should always focus on the positive aspects of what you already do well. Nothing can hurt confidence more than being told that you aren't doing well.     2    , so good public speaking training should develop those instead of telling you what you shouldn’t do.

    3

If you find a public speaking course that looks as though it’s going to give you lots of dos and don'ts, walk away! Your brain is so full of what you’re going to be talking about.     4    . As far as we’re concerned, there are basically no hard and fast rules about public speaking. Your audience can be your friends.

You are a special person not a clone.

Most importantly, good public speaking training should treat you as a special one, with your own personal habits.     5    . Your training course should help you bring out your personality, not try to turn you into someone you're not.

A.You aren’t like anybody else
B.You already do lots of things well

10 . The Disneyland parks are full of amusements, but they are also small cities that deal with deliveries, rubbish, and groups of visitors. People need to move from one place to another; they have to refuel and relax. To meet these requirements, the parks are well-equipped in reality. For example, Disneyland Park in California has a reliable transport system. In Walt Disney World in Florida, dustbins are spaced 30 feet apart, and all of them are emptied through underground tubes.

None of this happened by accident. Walt Disney first had his idea for a play land in 1937. He first imagined the park's buildings in a small size. He spent years collecting ideas by visiting other places. He studied Beverly Park in Los Angeles, including rebuilt historic villages. He visited Colonial Williamsburg, where employees dressed up and walked around.. Then he organized a team of engineers and designers to plan and build a small world he called Disneyland. Walt Disney had blueprints(蓝图)drawn up, and tried to get the permission to break ground(破土动工).

In 1953, he bought some land in Anaheim. Some designers thought it was too far, but Disney went ahead It was like building a new city Pipes had to be fixed. Railway track had to be laid around. Disney chose the hub-and-spoke(轴辐式)street pattern that many cities have. “I want Disneyland to be a place where you can't get lost,” he said, Designers and architects also diagrammed(图解)the rides and made models, while artists painted the background.

Finally in July 1955, the visitors came. If they picked up maps, they could see the results of years’ planning: the shops and restaurants, the square, and the streets. The magic city had finally jumped off the drawing board and come into real life.

1. What does the author want to show about Disneyland parks in the first paragraph?
A.The convenient environment.B.The amusing tourist attractions.
C.The differences between the parks.D.The visitors' common requirements.

A.To choose a place for construction.B.To advertise his Disneyland Park.
C.To experience American culture.D.To get inspiration for his park.
3. What kind of person is Walt Disney according to the passage?
A.Confident but selfish.B.Stubborn but kind-hearted.
C.Considerate and determined.D.Careful and hard-working,
4. What’s the best title of the text?
A.It is worthwhile to build large parks
B.Disneyland has been built like a brand- new city
C.How a theme park was built in a big city of USA
D.Disneyland--a famous park around the world
