文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍使用自主支持型养育方法时需要注意的四个方面。

2 . Autonomy-supportive parenting is an approach that focuses on building a child’s sense of agency in the world as well as a strong sense of self.     1     We should recognize that children have a different perspective or experience than adults. Therefore, instead of pushing adults’ way of thinking on children, adults should let kids do their own critical thinking and solve problems themselves, which will help them trust their abilities.

Guide kids to find their own solution

As any parent with more than one child can tell you, kids develop differently.     2     While one child may find it easy to start their homework independently, the other might not be a self-starter. So we push our kids to the next level by knowing their skill level and meeting them there.

Let kids find their own fun

3     It really is harm to them. It also sets us up to be their cruise (航行) directors at all times. That’s a huge burden on us! Letting children find their own thing to do when boredom strikes allows them to become self-sufficient and use their imagination to find fun on their own.

Being sympathetic doesn’t mean giving in

Another characteristic of autonomy-supportive parenting is being open, curious, and flexible. Trusting children to be accountable to themselves (or acting like it) is the only way you will know if your child will be a responsible, independent adult. For example, if you ask your child when they think is the best time to do their homework, and they tell you it’s in the morning before school begins, support them and let them try it, no matter how strange it sounds.     4

Don’t forget to support yourself

Once you grasp autonomy-supportive parenting, you’ll see opportunities to put it into practice. No matter how old your kid is, adopting this style will not be easy.     5     If you get hard on yourself because you’re not measuring up, you’re more likely to return to the controlling practices.

A.It may work.
B.Our kids don’t know how to manage boredom.
C.That can mean we have to support them in different ways.
D.So forgive yourself if things don’t go right on a particular day.
E.And they may not know yet, but it’s good for them to think about it.
F.Some days are just going to be more autonomy-supportive than others.
G.It’s trying to understand children’s experience of what’s going on right now.

3 . Risks of Overtraining

Getting in shape and training for an event such as a marathon requires long-lasting and intense physical commitment.    1     But the truth is, sometimes the very acts we do to get healthy can actually push us past our physical limits.

Specifically, overtraining is a set of signs that occur when your body is not able to recover sufficiently before going into your next workout.     2    People tend to ignore them. Over time, the cycle of starting the next training session before allowing recovery causes breakdown of the very parts of the body that you work so hard to build up.

The structures and systems of your body adapt to the demands you have placed on them before the rest time. If your workout slightly goes beyond your current ability, it will adapt toward what you did in a positive way.     3

Two main factors are necessary in recovery: nutrition. and rest. Good nutrition, including water and protein intake, is extremely important, especially within 40 minutes of your workout.     4    Your body uses the nutrients you have given it during the rest time. especially sleep, to strengthen.

One of the best ways to prevent overtraining is to focus on your morning resting heart rate.     5    Generally, you will detect an increase in your heart rate before the other signs show up. Tracking it in a log can be a great way to monitor your recovery.

A.It's easy to measure and track.
B.Allowing time for recovery is also essential.
C.The problem is that they show up very gradually.
D.Below are the signs and symptoms of overtraining.
E.Listening to your body will assure you of your fitness goals.
F.If far beyond, it'll take longer to adapt and may cause injury.
G.We generally assume regular intense exercise good for our health.

6 . Welcome to WSU Libraries! In this guide, we’ll unlock the mysteries of call numbers and location prefixes. Knowing these helps you quickly locate and access your desired books.

Call Numbers

Books and material are arranged on our shelves according to the Library of Congress (LC) classification system. These call numbers uniquely identify and organize items near other material on the same or similar subjects. Consider the call number: LB2395 C65 1991.

LB defines the subject area. The call letters are typically arranged in alphabetical (字母的) order, starting from A and continuing through the alphabet. Knowing the letter(s) for your subject area gives you a place to start browsing the shelves. For example: A — General works; B — Philosophy, Psychology, Religion; D — world History; G — Geography; H— social sciences; J — Political science; K — Law; L— Education; M — Music; N — Arts; P— Language and Literature; Q — science. For more, click here.

2395 is the classification number, which further distinguishes the subject matter. Read as a whole number: 1, 2, 3, 45, 100, 2430.

C65 is the Cutter number and usually represents the author’s last name. Find C, then 65. Read the number as a decimal (小数).

1991 is the year of publication.

Location Prefixes

Some call numbers have a location prefix. Location prefixes mean that the book or material is shelved in a special place, and may have loan restrictions. WSU uses the following prefixes:

1. Which book maybe identified under the call number “NU238 C719 2013” ?
A.An Introduction to Modern Art.B.The ABC of Computer science.
C.The Recycling of waste oils.D.A short History of France.
2. What would be the Cutter number if you are looking for a book by Whitney Sherman?
A.C78.B.S53.C.W67.D.L59.
3. Where can you find the book “RES AG243 G87 1992”?
A.0n the 2nd or 4th floor of the library.
B.In the Reference Area on the 1st floor.
C.In the Circulation Area on the 1st floor.
D.At the Learning Resources Center on the 2nd floor.

7 . Some of the greatest discoveries in science have been completely accidental. Then again, maybe science had a little help...

Ice Candy

One of America’s favorite summertime treats came about thanks to a particularly cold night in the San Francisco Bay area in 1905. The next morning, Frank discovered the mixture had frozen around the stick. He popped it out of the cup, licked it…and summers were never the same!

Safety Glass

In 1903, French chemist Édouard Bénédictus accidentally dropped a glass bottle. To his surprise, the glass cracked but wasn’t broken into pieces. Out of curiosity, he checked it carefully. A mixture of metals went into the furnace. What came out was a striking blue mixture. The first new blue since cobalt (深蓝) was discovered in 1802, is called “YInMn Blue.”

Penicillin

In 1928, Scottish researcher Alexander Fleming returned to his lab after a two-week vacation only to discover that mold (霉菌) from an open window had made an uncovered dish of bacteria dirty. Strangely enough, the mold stopped the bacteria from growing, giving the world its first antibiotic.
