文章大意:这是一篇夹叙夹议文。文章通过具体事例谈论了网络交友的利与弊。

1 . Twelve-year-old Catherine has a lot of friends—632, actually, if you count up her online friends. And she spends a lot of time with them.

But is it possible that Catherine’s online friendships could be making her lonely? That’s what some experts believe. Connecting online is a great way to stay in touch, they say. However, some experts worry that many kids are so busy connecting online that they might be missing out on true friendships.

Could this be true? During your parents’ childhoods, connecting with friends usually meant spending time with them in the flesh. Kids played Scrabble around a table, not words with friends on their phones. When friends missed each other, they picked up the telephone. Friends might even write letters to each other.

Today, most communication takes place online. A typical teen sends 2,000 texts a month and spends more than 44 hours per week in front of a screen. Much of this time is spent on social media platform.

In fact, in many ways, online communication can make friendships stronger. “There’s definitely a positive influence. Kids can stay in constant contact, which means they can share more of their feelings with each other,” says Katie Davis, co-author of The App Generation.

Other experts, however, warn that too much online communication can get in the way of forming deep friendships. “If we are constantly checking in with our virtual world, we will have little time for our real-world friendships,” says Larry Rosen, a professor at California State University. Rosen also worries that today’s kids might mistake the “friends” on the social media for true friends in life. However, in tough times, you don’t need anyone to like your picture or share your blogs. You need someone who will keep your secrets and hold your hand. You would like to talk face to face.

1. What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To tell about true friends.B.To start a discussion.
C.To encourage online friendships.D.To summarize(总结) the text.
2. What does the underlined part “in the flesh” mean in paragraph 3?
A.In any case.B.In public.C.In person.D.In advance.
3. What is Katie’s attitude toward online communication?
A.Unconcerned.B.Positive.C.Worried.D.Confused.
4. Which of the following is the Rosen’s view?
A.Teenagers need to focus on real-world friendships.B.It’s easier to develop friendships in real life.
C.It’s wise to turn to friends online.D.Social media help people stay closely connected.

2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

It was a sunny morning, and I accompanied my elderly mother to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, but I was always nervous. My mother was going to Canada for two days and then accompanied by my niece to Germany to visit my second brother and sister, but I was unable to accompany her because of my work, so my mother, who was in her seventies, had to fly alone.

On the way to the airport, my mother hid her worries and put a smile on her face so that her family would not be worried. But I couldn’t help but think about what my mother was going to do when she got through customs, which exit she was going to take when she arrived in Canada...Not to mention a big suitcase of luggage and a box of souvenirs. A few days ago, my mother cooked some of the children’s favorite foods, store in a refrigerated box and prepared to bring them to her children and grandchildren to taste. Since my sister got married in Canada, she has missed my mother’s cooking. This time, if it weren’t for the fact that my second sister was too busy to get out in Germany, and my mother could visit her son who had settled in Germany for more than 20 years at the same time, I am afraid that she would never have traveled alone.

Originally, I planned for my mother to only carry small luggage, so that she did not have to check it in, and it was easier to enter and exit. But when I packed her bags, I picked up more than two-thirds of my things for my younger brothers and sisters. The mother is like this; she always thinks that she is not enough to think about her children. As long as she sees the children happy, she can be happy for a long time.

注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

I accompanied my mother to the counter, seeing a couple talking and laughing.

3 . Hundreds of hours of survey footage has revealed a rare mammal in the south-west of Rio Grande do Sul state in Brazil. Wildlife camera traps have recorded footage of a giant anteater(食蚁兽) wandering through scrubland in Espinilho State Park in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It is the first time since the 1890s that this large mammal has been seen in the southwest of the state. Experts think the anteater came from Ibera National Park in Argentina, where a major re wilding project has been underway since 2007.

The anteater was spotted by Brazilian biologist Fabio Mazim as he was reviewing hundreds of hours of footage for a wild if e survey. “The animal seems to be in very good condition and established in the area,” says Mazim. “At the moment it is impossible for us to determine whether it is male or female, one or even several different individuals.”

According to WWF Brazil, the species was once present in all Brazilian states. It is now threatened with extinction in all regions of the country and has been lost from some states entirely. The main causes of the population decline are the damage and loss of occupied zone, hunting, road accidents and forest fires.

Giant anteaters were first l reintroduced to I bera National Park in 2007 by Rewilding Argentina. Since the start of the project, 110 anteaters orphaned by road accidents or illegal hunting have been released, and several generations now live in Ibera Wetlands. The discovery in Rio Grande do Sul state, along with additional sightings over a 100 km range, suggests that Ibera’s giant anteaters are colonizing other regions.

For the next stage of the project, researchers will try to find out if there are more individuals in the area, and determine what their favoured habitat(栖息地) is. “We intend to seize the individual sighted in Espinilho State Park, collect biological samples (样本) for genetic analysis, and compare them with the populations that exist elsewhere in Brazil.” says Flavia Miranda, a biologist who has been studying the species for 25 years.

1. How was the giant anteater discovered?
A.Through cooperation with WWF Brazil.
B.Through a wild adventure in Espinilho State Park.
C.By catching the animal for a bioresearch.
D.By examining picture recording for a wildlife survey.
2. What are the reasons for the decrease of the anteater population?
A.Lack of genetic variety.
B.Loss of living areas and natural disasters.
C.Climate change and natural destruction.
D.Competition for resources with other species.
3. What motivated there appearance of the anteater in this region?
A.A major rewilding project by Re wilding Argentina.
B.The establishment of a protected area for anteaters
C.A reproductive program focused on prisoned anteaters
D.An anti-hunting campaign sponsored by WWF Brazil.
4. What is the future plan of the research?
A.Releasing the giant anteater back into the wild after a health check.
B.Shifting the giant anteater to Ibera National Park for further studies.
C.Trapping the giant anteater to compare genetic samples with other populations in Brazil.
D.Observing the giant anteater from a distance to understand its behavior better.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。根据最近发表在《消费者研究》杂志上的一项研究,我们的饮食伙伴的大小和消费习惯都会影响我们的食物摄入量。文章主要介绍了研究开展的过程以及研究的发现。

5 . According to a recent study in the Journal of Consumer Research, both the size and consumption habits of our eating companions (同伴) can influence our food intake. And contrary (相反的) to existing research that says you should avoid eating with heavier people who order large portions (份), it’s the beanpoles with big appetites (饭量) you really need to avoid.

To test the effect of social influence on eating habits, the researchers conducted two experiments. In the first, 95 undergraduate women were individually invited into a lab to ostensibly (表面上) participate in a study about movie viewership. Before the film began, each woman was asked to help herself to a snack. An actor hired by the researchers grabbed her food first. In her natural state, the actor weighed 105 pounds. But in half the cases she wore a specially designed fat suit which increased her weight to 180 pounds.

Both the fat and thin versions of the actor took a large amount of food. The participants followed suit, taking more food than they normally would have. However, they took significantly more when the actor was thin.

For the second test, in one case the thin actor took two pieces of candy from the snack bowls. In the other case, she took 30 pieces. The results were similar to the first test: the participants followed suit but took significantly more candy when the thin actor took 30 pieces.

The tests show that the social environment is extremely influential when we’re making decisions. If this fellow participant is going to eat more, so will I. Call it the “I’ll have what she’s having” effect. However, we’ll adjust the influence. If an overweight person is having a large portion, I’ll hold back a bit because I see the results of his eating habits. But if a thin person eats a lot, I’ll follow suit. If he can eat much and keep slim, why can’t I?

1. What is the recent study mainly about?
A.Food safety.B.Movie viewership.
C.Consumer demand.D.Eating behavior.
2. What does the underlined word “beanpoles” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A.Big eaters.B.Overweight persons.
C.Picky eaters.D.Tall thin persons.
3. Why did the researchers hire the actor?
A.To see how she would affect the participants.B.To test if the participants could recognize her.
C.To find out what she would do in the two tests.D.To study why she could keep her weight down.
4. From which is the text probably taken?
A.A news report.B.A science textbook.
C.A research paper.D.A travel brochure.

文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。据《纽约时报》报道,为了打击抄袭行为,美国的一些学校对ChatGPT进行了严厉打击,并介绍了对ChatGPT的不同看法。

7 . To battle the plagiarism (抄袭), some schools in America have responded to ChatGPT by taking action, according to the New York Times.

New York City public schools, for example, recently prevented ChatGPT access on school computers and networks, saying “concerns about negative influence on students learning, and concerns about the safety of content.” Schools in other cities, including Seattle, have also limited its use.

A US online course provider Study.com recently asked 1,000 students over the age of 18 about the use of ChatGPT in the classroom. The responses were surprising. Around 89 percent said they’ve used it on homework. Over 50 percent said they used ChatGPT to write an essay, while 22 percent admitted to having asked ChatGPT for a paper outline.

While the chatbot (聊天机器人) is raising fears of academic cheating on schools, some educators believe introducing the AI-ended tools to the academics could even overturn the traditional education.

“For researchers, finding valuable scientific problems and solving them in creative ways come first, and then writing academic papers. Some AI-enabled writing tools can create words or even write long text based on a few keywords shortly,” said Zhu Wei, a law professor in China. For example, ChatGPT helps writers gather writing materials for their papers, which not only increases the efficiency of the work, but also allows researchers to devote more energy to more creative work.

“Whether to use ChatGPT depends on whether to use it correctly. For those students who just use it to deal with homework or exams,” Zhu said, “this is putting the cart before the horse, which should be limited.” To avoid this problem, Zhu suggested introducing soft wares to help educators. He believes schools should accept ChatGPT as a teaching aid to unlock creativity in students. “The most important part of such tools is not to replace human thinking, but to improve human thinking.” Zhu said.

1. How does the author describe the results of Study.com’s research in Paragraph 3?
A.By listing figures.B.By conducting tests.
C.By giving examples.D.By referring to other studies.
2. What is the author’s attitude towards the usage of ChatGPT?
A.Disagreeable.B.Supportive.C.Objective.D.Unconcerned.
3. What may the author talk about in the following paragraph?
A.Showing how software is applied in schools.
B.Giving examples of how students use ChatGPT.
C.Listing advantages of using AI-ended tools properly in schools.
D.Introducing ways to use ChatGPT to improve students’ creativity.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一家名为Pivotal的硅谷公司开发的电动垂直起降飞行器Helix,对其设计、特点、市场前景等方面进行了介绍。

10 . Electrically powered vertical-take-off-and-landing (eVTOL) aircraft—flying cars are an idea whose time has not quite yet come, but is fast approaching. Many firms are offering various designs. None of these, however, will be Jetson-like family flying cars. Pivotal, based in Silicon Valley, by contrast has crafted something that people can purchase and pilot themselves. Helix is a single-seat vehicle, so “flying motorbike” might be more accurate. From next year, many people will be able to order one for personal use, though they will not be able to take delivery until June.

Marcus Leng founded Pivotal in 2011, and some back-of-the-envelope calculations he made suggested that electric lift-off of a human-carrying craft, using motors powered by the lithium-ion batteries ought to work. He thus built a model and flew it in the garden of his house in Warkworth, Ontario.

Now, after ameliorating it, the firm thinks it has something marketable. The aircraft has, nevertheless, changed little in its fundamentals over the years. It has two pairs of wings and eight propellers (螺旋桨), making it slightly resemble a squashed “H” when seen in the sky from below. And there is no undercarriage. Instead, its belly is curved in a way similar to a humpback whale’s, so it rocks to stability after landing.

Pilot’s licence or not, buyers will still need some training to fly a Helix. Pivotal insists on this. For the same reason, the craft’s software will stop the pilot doing anything that does not fit its safety rules. And if, despite this, something does go wrong, it is fitted with a parachute(降落伞).

The Helix’s top speed is a respectable 100 kph, but its range is only 30 km. And refueling it is a bit of a pain. Filling up from the mains takes four and a half hours, though a special high-power system similar to those employed for electric cars can bring that down to 75 minutes. While Helix still doesn’t compare to the flying car from the Jetsons, it could be a step forward.

1. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?
A.Helix has been used in Warkworth widely.
B.Flying cars won’t be allowed for personal use.
C.Leng was the first person to design flying cars.
D.Helix is only suitable for one person to drive.
2. What does the underlined word “ameliorating” in paragraph 3’mean?
A.Testing.B.Driving.C.Improving.D.Repairing.
3. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.Helix’s relative devices.B.Helix’s training process.
C.Helix’s safety measures.D.Helix’s working principle.
4. What is the author’s attitude towards Helix?
A.Doubtful.B.Objective.C.Indifferent.D.Cautious.
