文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了如何成为尖子生的方法。

1 . Everyone wants to perform well at school. Add these tips to your life and you should be on your way to being a top student!

1    I cannot stress how important it is to pay attention to what your teacher is teaching you. Take part in class discussions if you have something worth adding. Pay attention during class.

Taking notes is important. You don’t need to write down every single word your teacher says but write down what he or she writes on the blackboard, or any special fact you think you might need for a test.    2       In this way, it will help you learn more effectively by thinking about what you are writing.

Don’t skip school. You will be missing courses.    3    However, you will have more work and you have missed lectures. Also, try not to be late for class. It’s most likely that your teacher won’t appreciate it and you will get yourself behind.

Keep a good attitude (态度) towards things. If you have an “ I don’t care about school or this class” attitude, then teachers will be less willing to help you with problems. The same goes for lazy attitude. Have a respectful attitude to the teacher and other students.     4

Always ask questions.     5     If you don’t understand, ask someone. Read your textbook and notes, and then if that fails, ask a teacher, friend, classmate, parent, etc.

A.Be prepared.
B.Write in your own words.
C.Staying organized will be helpful.
D.Pay attention to what the teacher says.
E.It is true that you could make up the work.
F.There is no shame (羞愧)in needing some help.
G.Try not to laugh when other students make mistakes.

文章大意:本文是新闻报道,韦恩州立大学举办了一种活动,旨在让孩子们了解科学、艺术和医疗保健系统。

7 . “Every child has a great curiosity about something they love,”said Carolyn King, a doctor in Grand Rapids, Michigan. King, who once studied at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, is the co-founder of a yearly event called Reach Out to Youth (ROTY).

Wayne State has held the event since 1989, which lets kids ages 7 to 11 experience science and medicine in an interesting way.

“We’re here to help distinguish future scientists and future physicians,” said Richard Baker, director of Medical Education at Wayne State.

Diamond Moore, a medical student and the leading organizer of ROTY planned a special but interesting day for attendees. Exhibits included a room where you could see a brain, heart, and some other parts of our body, and a room where you could test your reflexes (反射动作). Wayne State teachers and medical students, including Moore, shared their knowledge of medical science with kids.

“This program wants kids to learn about science, arts, and the health care system,” Moore said, so that hopefully, they’ll become interested in medicine.

Some of the students were excited about the chance to tour the exhibits and learn more about medicine-related jobs. “A doctor would be a cool job,” said first-time attendee Desiree Anders.

Jeremiah Tower, an 11-year-old from Detroit, said that learning about science and things about the body was what the program was all about. Still, he wasn’t excited about having to get up early on a Saturday morning.

This year’s theme was “Play It Safe: Brain Safety.” After seeing what a brain looks like up close, young attendees learned about the danger of concussions (脑震荡). A fun test was given about brain safety so that kids could see how much they had learned.

About 350 kids take part in the program each year. It’s a great way to get an idea of what it feels like to be a doctor.

1. What can we learn about ROTY?
A.It is open to kids of all ages.B.It educates kids in a fun way.
C.It is held on a Saturday afternoon.D.It helps kids learn more about others.
2. Which can take the place of the underlined word “distinguish” in Paragraph 3?
A.Care for.B.Look for.C.Pick up.D.Cheer up.
3. How did Desiree Anders feel about medical science?
A.She felt a bit worried about it.B.She thought it was hard to learn.
C.She showed an interest in it.D.She believed it would have a bright future.
4. What type of writing is the text?

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了如何维持一段英语对话。

9 . It is not always easy to keep a conversation going in English. You might not be sure about what to say. Or maybe you are afraid that your pronunciation is not good. So how can we continue a conversation in English?     1

Listen and follow up

First, remember the importance of listening. Listen to the other person attentively, so that you can ask a follow-up question. For example, let’s say the other person tells you, “I just got back from a trip to Canada.”     2     Where did you go in Canada? What was your favorite place there?

How was the food there?

Avold simple “yes” or “no” questions

If you want to keep a conversation going, it’s a good idea to ask questions that cannot be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”. If the other person asks you a “yes” or “no” question, try to give a longer answer to help keep the conversation going.

For example, a friend might ask, “Hey, have you seen the new Star Wars movie?” You could just answer, “No, I haven’t.”     3     You could answer: “No, but I plan to see it soon. How about you?”

    4

Do not worry about your pronunciation. If your pronunciation is a little different, the other person will still understand your message if you try speaking slowly and clearly. When you are traveling in an English-speaking country and have some free time, be brave and speak in English with someone who does not look too busy.     5

A.Or, you could say more.
B.Be brave and practice often.
C.You can try the following ways.
D.Why did you choose the destination?
E.Then you may make a new friend.
F.Correct your pronunciation if possible.
G.You can continue with a question using where, what, why, or how.

文章大意:本文为一篇说明文,讲述了学习外语的几大常见的误解。

10 . As a speaker of 10 languages I know the benefits of speaking more than one language. To start with, we need to dispel (消除) four common misconceptions about language learning.

You have to have a gift for learning languages.

No, you don’t.     1     In Sweden and Holland most people speak more than one language. They can’t just all be gifted at languages. In language learning it is attitude, not aptitude (天赋) that determines success.

    2

Some immigrants to North America never learn to speak more than broken English. Yet we meet people in other countries who speak flawless English. With the Internet, language content is available to anyone with a computer.     3

To learn a language you need formal classroom instruction.

Classrooms may be economical to run and a great place to meet others. They have the weight of history and tradition behind them. Unfortunately, a classroom is an inefficient place to learn a language.     4     A majority of school kids graduate unable to communicate in languages that they study for 10 or more years.

I would love to learn but I don't have the time.

How about the time you spend waiting in line or going for a walk? Why not use that time to listen to a language on your iPad? Once you get started, even 10 or 15 minutes a day will soon grow to 30 minutes a day, or one hour.     5     As I do, you will find the time.

A.That’s my experience.
B.Anyone who wants to, can learn.
C.Where you live is not a problem.
D.You need to speak in order to learn.
E.You have to live where the language is spoken.
F.The more students in the class, the more inefficient it is.
G.We simply have to change the way we go about teaching languages.
