1 . J. K. Rowling frequently shows there is magic every day. Her Harry Potter series has helped people through times of stress and depression and she is always there to deliver wise words of encouragement.
She is one celebrity who is very active on Twitter. So when a single dad named Matt Burke sent her a message thanking her for the series, she noticed. Her series had helped strengthen his relationship with his 9yearold daughter Bailey.
He included a link to his article titled Being a Broke Parent. He explained how he hadn’t found a level of financial stability that allowed him to pay bills on time and take his daughter on more activities and events. The family also doesn’t have the Internet or TV, which means there’s no “digital babysitter” and he has to rely on his own creative ways to bond with his daughter. Since he received the series, the main thing that has occupied them these days is reading books together.
Burke admits that he thought he was “too cool” for the books when they first came out and he was in his twenties, but he’s loving reading them now. “We switch off chapter by chapter reading them out loud,“Burke explains.” This not only allows her to get more used to reading aloud in front of someone, but it gets me directly involved in something she loves, and it gives me the chance to be very dramatic when I read my chapters and bring myself into the characters in the book, which has proven to be a ton of fun.”
After hearing Burke’s story, Rowling said how honored she was when Harry Potter was a part of his family’s life and offered Burke more books. Besides, people are also offering to send Burke more books as gifts. For Burke, this experience, far more than gifts, will be what he treasures.

2 . Many countries around the globe pride themselves on their lingual (语言的) variety. Here are a few of the most multilingual places on Earth.
Aruba
Aruba sits in the far Southern Caribbean Sea, near Venezuela. Dutch is an official language and is taught in all schools. Both English and Spanish are also the languages that students must learn in Aruba’s education system. However, none of them is considered the native language of Aruba. On the street and at home, locals communicate with one another in Papiamento. Papiamento is an official language besides Dutch, and it is used regularly in the media and in government.
East Timor
This tiny young nation sits in the far south east ern corner of the Indonesian Archipelago. Once a colony (殖民地) of Portugal, Timor decided to use Portuguese as an official language after independence. The local language, Tetum, is most widely spoken on the street. In addition, English and Indonesian are used throughout the country, and both are officially recognized as working languages.
India
Hindi and English are the official national languages of India, and the majority of educated Indians have knowledge of both, though English is preferred over Hindi in southern India. Each state in India has its own official language(s), most of which differ from Hindi. These languages are used in local media and on the street.
South Africa
South Africa has 11 official languages. In many city areas, English is the lingua franca (通用语). It is also the main language of government and media, even though less than ten percent of South Africans speak it as a first language. A Four-legged Guardian Angel
I just finished cleaning up the snow in the pool in preparation for selling the house. The year before, I had lost my job with the provincial government, and now we almost ran out of all of our savings,
Deep in sadness, I sat typing up resumes for job. Out of the corner of my eye I could see my thirteen-month-old son Forrest playing near our big, gentle, intelligent dog Brigitte. And I recalled this family. the scene of adopting him on a cold winter night. It seemed as if Brigitte was always meant to be in this family.
Thinking of these, I couldn’t help letting out a sigh and continued working. Suddenly, Brigitte began barking furiously and running back and forth to the glass door overlooking our pool. I raced to see what was happening.
Finally, we arrived home, safe and sound. On seeing us, Brigitte began barking excitedly and turning in circles cheerfully Since then, Brigitte never left my son an inch.
The swimming pool witnessed the close bond formed between my families and Brigitte.

6 . What are the limits of the human body? Is there a point at which it is physically impossible to do something?
“One thing we’ve all learned in the last 30 years or so is that just about anything is humanly possible,” says Dr. Jack Wilmore, author of Physiology of Sport and Exercise. “As time goes by, I think you’ll see more records continue to fall in every sport. The talent pool is better than ever. With more and better athletes joining in and competing, records will fall and new ones will be set.”
Many believed it was physically impossible for a human to run a mile in under four minutes, but Roger Bannister proved that was wrong, with a three-minute, 59-second mile in 1954. Today, sub-four-minute miles are considered ordinary even in high school. And Bob Beamon amazed the whole world in the 1968 Olympics with his historic long jump of 8. 90 metres. In an event where a record is usually broken by me re inches, he broke the previous jump record by more than 21 inches, but even his record was broken in 1991.
One factor is now becoming more understood and paid more attention to: sports psychology (心理学). Getting inside the athlete’s head can be as effective as training and long workouts. According to Wilmore, the psychological factor of sports has become more and more valued. He thinks highly of most teams’ hiring (雇佣) professional sports psychologists to work for their players.
What’s more, everything in the sports field — training, nutrition (营养), injury treatment — is far better than it’s ever been. “Besides, children today are more likely to focus on one or two sports instead of competing in several as was common twenty-five years ago,” Wilmore says. “That means they start concentrating on a sport much earlier and put more effort into it, and thus they become much better at it.”
“There’s a lot we don’t know yet about the human body,” he adds. “And one of those things is can do.” the full range of human potential. It would be foolish to try and put limits on what the human body can do.”
1. What can we learn from Dr. Jack Wilmore’s words?A.Athletes will become the most popular people. |

7 . Capybaras (水豚) are group animals, so they do not like being alone. In fact, leaving a capybara alone is not only uncomfortable for the animal, but it can be harmful to their physical health, as well as their mental happiness. Capybaras love to talk to each other throughout the day. Groups of capybaras spend their days sun bathing along the edge of rivers, where they enjoy swimming together in the water. They spend half of their lives in the water.
Since they spend so much time around water, it makes sense that capybaras would come into contact with different kinds of other animals who stop in for a drink. Capybaras are gentle and peaceful river animals who enjoy a short sleep along the water’s edge — and often do so with other animal species as well. You can find pictures all over the Internet of these lovely animals lying beside turtles, birds, ducks, rats, and even monkeys as they enjoy a nap by the water.
Capybaras are also known to be excellent and friendly taxis in the animal world. Birds and monkeys commonly stand on the back of a capybara for a ride as capybaras search for grass to eat. Sometimes capybaras even serve as boats for other animals, letting them sit on their heads as they swim through the water.
However, if you see a capybara lying on its side with a yellow-headed caracara (长腿秃鹰) on its body, don’t panic just yet. Most likely the copybara is enjoying a nice spa day. Birds often make friends with capybaras and provide a natural cleaning service, picking off insects that live in the capybara’s fur. It’s a relationship that benefits each other, since the yellow-headed caracara also gets to enjoy eating those tasty insects. Yet, such lovely capybaras are not free of human influences and even face extinction now.

8 . Bright and early on the morning of our first full day in Antarctica (南极洲), L’ Austral’s Captain Fabien’s voice woke us up as it came through a loudspeaker. If we looked outside right now, he said, we’d see a beautiful sea of icebergs (冰山) in the golden sunlight. My sister and I jumped out of bed, staring in amazement as we sailed past giant pieces of ice. In the distance, we spotted a group of humpback whales feeding on smaller fishes. Next door, my parents were also waking up to the sights of a new day in Antarctica. Over breakfast, my sister and I excitedly told them about the whales we saw from our room that morning.
You might not immediately think “family vacation” when talking about a trip to Antarctica, but tour companies like Adventures by Disney are changing that. The company offers guided group trips to destinations across all seven continents in the world.
Our adventure started when we flew to Buenos Aires and explored the beautiful Argentine capital for a day. After leaving Buenos Aires, we flew to Ushuaia on an Adventures by Disney plane. Then, it was the journey toward the Drake Passage. After a speedy Drake Passage crossing, we reached Antarctica early, adding a half day to our scheduled four days on and around the continent.
To those unfamiliar with Adventures by Disney, the fact that you can experience Antarctica — the most distant, extreme continent — with Disney might be surprising. During the trip, there were thoughtful acts, from stamped postcards to send from an Antarctica post office to a champagne (香槟) party on our final stop of the journey; Adventures by Disney truly thought of everything for us. Antarctica is a life-changing destination packed with experiences that can’t be copied. We experienced Drake Passage seasickness, hiked up ice hills alongside lovely animals, and had a taste of champagne. And honestly, it’s going to be hard for the next family trip we take to compete.

Everyone started searching, and within a couple of minutes, everyone had their own balloon with their name on it. Bruce went to the platform and said, “You see, in the second round, no one was able to find their balloons as we were working on individual targets. But in the final round, within a couple of minutes, everyone had their balloon with them.

10 . Historical heritages are human beings’ wisdom. Cultural relics, however, as time goes by, suffer different degrees of erosion (侵蚀). People used to protect cultural relics by hand work combing photographing and rubbing techniques. Although this method can keep the basic information, many important details are still ignored.
3D scanning technology features in fast measurement speed and accurate catching capacity. It’s good at collecting enough and accurate 3D data from different angles, which is beneficial to the restoration of cultural relics when coming into accidental damage. Experts can also virtually restore the heritages through the computer, and finish assistant researches via accurate 3D models.
For cultural relics’ protection, 3D printing contributes to displaying cultural relics. It provides people with more chances to get to know cultural relics and better understand human beings’ history.
Yucheng Museum has dug out a new collection of cultural relics in April 2019. One of the most important issues for archaeologists is data storage. Invited by Quimbaya ArtxTech, ScanTech conducted 3D scanning immediately on these relics by the 3D scanner. This handheld 3D ray scanner carries a big weight in acquiring very accurate 3D data and brings great convenience for further restorations and researches.
To avoid any damage, Yucheng Museum combined with 3D printing technology based on 3D data to reproduce 1:1 3D model of cultural relics for exhibition, which aims to make more people get close to history and pass on these precious cultural heritages.
Time flies and many thousand-year cultural treasures have gradually disappeared from our sight due to technical problems. However, 3D scanning and 3D printing technologies put forward very effective 3D solutions for cultural relic display and protection.
