文章大意:本文是说明文。说明了用手书写笔记的好处,包括:避免分散注意力,对记忆更好;笔记质量更好以及会感到更快乐等。

3 . As an entrepreneur, my days are filled with a flow of information that I need to remember: meeting notes, tasks assignment, ideas. As a tech enthusiast and as someone whose handwriting isn't the best, I have been taking notes on my computer since college.     1     Along the way, I have discovered many pros of using ink versus a keyboard, from business to relaxing ones.

Avoid distraction. Our digital devices are full of distractions: emails, notifications and those cute kitten pictures. Pen and paper are distraction-free. You won't have to deal with the urge of quickly checking the notification that just popped up.     2     Quite the opposite, it signals that you are paying attention and that what they say is of high quality because you are writing it down.

Better for memory. Taking notes on your pad or via your key board affects your memory. Research co-led by professors from Princeton and the University of California showed that college students who took notes with pen and paper remembered more than those who used a computer.

3    People who take notes on their laptops tend to type faster than those who write and end up taking verbatim(逐字的) notes, which involves a shallower form of cognitive processing.    4     Paper also allows more flexibility: underlining, circling, connecting elements with arrows and doodling, offering a more comfortable note- taking experience that will also allow for faster reviewing when coming back to them.

Take pleasure in the craft. Writing is a craft, and while my handwriting has never been excellent, I took the time to invest in it.     5     It's relatively distraction-free and putting effort into producing beautiful handwriting can be satisfying.

A.Higher -quality notes
B.Learn knowledge faster
C.Writing on paper can have a relaxing effect.
D.Pen and paper are convenient and available somehow.
E.But about two years ago, I decided to switch to pen and paper.
F.Those writing with pens tend to take shorter, straight-to-the- point notes.
G.Plus, your conservationist is less likely to think that your note-taking is a distraction.

4 . Over a decade ago, the science fiction series Black Mirror showed a story about using artificial intelligence to bring back loved ones. Thanks to technological advancement, the latest AI technology brings hope of recreating loved ones through virtual form.

Recently, it was revealed that renowned musician Tino Bao had created a digital version of his daughter, who in 2021 passed away due to a rare disease at the age of 22. With the help of Xiaoice, Microsoft Asia’s AI branch based in China, Bao was able to recreate his daughter Bao Rong as an AI-powered virtual figure. Tino Bao, his family and the team went to great lengths to piece together pictures, audio-visual recordings, and narrated memories of Rong. After thousands of trials and errors, they presented the life-like digital human who speaks in both Mandarin and English. Bao has finally launched a company to bring the technological miracle to other families experiencing such loss.

However, this technological achievement has also been accompanied by many controversies. The idea of bringing back a loved one through AI may seem comforting. Still, researchers caution that constantly interacting with an AI version of a deceased loved one could potentially affect the natural grieving process, leaving individuals stuck in a state of denial. This could lead to prolonged grief and other mental health issues. Furthermore, there’s a risk that people may become overly dependent on the technology, prioritizing their interactions with the AI version over forming new, real-life relationships.

With the case of Bao Rong out in the open, AI resurrection (复活) has become a business. From simple “talking pictures” that sound nothing like the loved ones to deep fake videos of actors speaking with the faces of those who passed away, the lower end of the market is more “artificial” than “intelligent”. Therefore, it is crucial to establish proper regulations and ethical standards to ensure that the use of AI-resurrection technology is safe and responsible.

1. Why does the author mention Black Mirror?
A.To advertise Microsoft’s virtual products.
B.To lead to the discussion about AI resurrection.
C.To prove the predictive power of science fiction.
D.To highlight the advancement of artificial intelligence.
2. Which of the following aspects is the primary focus of paragraph 2?
A.The popularity of AI-resurrection technology.
B.Reasons for making a digital version of Bao Rong.
C.Challenges of developing a life-like digital human.
D.The process of creating an AI-powered virtual figure.
3. What can we learn about AI-resurrection technology from paragraph 3?
A.It still has some technical limitations.
B.It helps people build new real-life relationships.
C.It can be a person’s obstacle to recovering from sadness.
D.It enables individuals to preserve good memories of loved ones.
4. What does the author suggest people do?
A.Strengthen the management of the technology.
B.Apply the technology to making pictures and videos.
C.Put the technology into the market as soon as possible.
D.Educate the public about the potential risks of technology.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要给出了识别未知画作的策略,这些策略分别是利用签名在线搜寻,应用图像识别技术,咨询专家鉴定时期与风格,依据画中时代元素定位。

5 . It is not hard to learn more about a piece of famous painting, but identifying an unknown painting can be tricky. What do you need to do to get its specific information? Here are tips to identify a painting.

·Use the signature or monogram (字母组合图案) to dig online and find the image. Look in the corners of the painting to see if there is a signature or monogram.     1     If it’s harder to read, see if you can break down the letters and read them. This will let you narrow down the search and figure out who the artist is.

·Turn to an image recognition app to identify the painting immediately. If you’re struggling to remember an artist’s name or you want additional information on a particular painting, download an image recognition app designed specifically for art. There are several apps for both Android and iPhone that allow you to snap a photo of a painting to search through museum catalogues, university databases, and art history texts.     2

·Ask an expert to identify the era, style, or painter of an image.     3     The reason is that an expert like a professor in the field of art will be able to offer insights about the period, style, and give you a better sense for where to look. He may even know who the artist is as soon as he takes a look at it.

·    4     Contemporary painters may paint people or objects from the past, but they can’t time travel. If there’s a train, company logo or some other time-specific component of it, this is a great way to set a baseline (基准) for your search.

In a word, the tips above are helpful.     5     In this way, you will effortlessly identify the unknown painting.

A.This is the easiest way to find a specific painting.
B.Locate its exact location when you appreciate the painting.
C.If the name is easy to read, search the artist’s name up online to find it.
D.Email or visit an art history professor to ask whether he can look at the image.
E.Take advantage of obvious clues in the subject matter to narrow down the date.
F.Thus, you’ll find it easier than you think to find the information you’re looking for.
G.If the professor mainly focuses on newer artists, a contemporary abstract piece is going to be easier to identify.

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

In a big city lived a girl named Amy. She was a clever and lively child, but her heart was often clouded by dissatisfaction. Whenever she saw other children playing with new dolls or dressed in fancy outfits, Amy’s eyes would sparkle with envy and she wished she had them too.

So she always asked her mother, “Mom, can I have this?” or “Mom, can I have that?” If her mom didn’t satisfy her need, Amy would respond with endless complaints or tears. She didn’t understand why she couldn’t possess what she desired.

Her mother, a wise and loving woman, tried to reason with Amy. She explained that Amy already had so many toys and clothes. She said, “Amy, you’re lucky to have so much. Learn to be happy with what you have.” But Amy’s ears were deaf to her mother’s words. She could only see what she lacked, and her heart remained heavy with dissatisfaction.

Amy’s discontentment affected her social life at high school. Her bad temper and constant complaints about what she lacked made it difficult for her to make friends. When Amy saw her desk mate Lily using new stationery (文具), she immediately said, “I have better ones.” Once, hearing some girls talking about their new dresses, she interrupted rudely, “My mom will buy me the same one, even nicer.” Other kids couldn’t bear her attitude and kept away from her gradually, which made Amy feel more lonely and unhappy.

When Amy told her mother the “unfair treatment” she faced at school, her mother was deeply concerned about her. She knew that Amy’s constant dissatisfaction was not appropriate and would eventually ruin her happiness completely. “Something must be done.” she thought. After deep consideration, she decided to take a different approach. One day, she invited Amy to join her in volunteering at a local charity that helped the children there in need. Initially, Amy refused, but her mother’s determined attitude persuaded her successfully.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章通过介绍两个心理学概念“邓宁-克鲁格效应”和“智性谦逊”来说明为什么我们应该了解自身能力的局限性。

10 . Humans can be poor judges of their own ability. So, you might not be as good, or as bad, as you think you are. Psychologists have found the less expertise you have in something, the more likely you are to overestimate your competence in it. And in a digital era where self-assured social media influencers give you “life tricks”, and face-to-face conversation is more limited, this psychological phenomenon seems important to remember.

This concept is called the Dunning-Kruger effect, named after the psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger. Back in the 90s, they found a correlation between a person’s lack of skills and ability and a lack of awareness of lack of ability. They are ignorant to their own limitations. This plays out in various areas of life, such as in medical diagnosis. For example, Dunning told BBC Radio 4 that, one third of the time, doctors disagree with patients who self-diagnose using internet sources rather than seeing a medical professional. Whether it’s judging jokes, logical reasoning, or grammar, the pattern is the same: the less skilled you are, the more over-confident you are.

On the other side is intellectual humility. This means having a modest or low view of your importance or abilities. Elizabeth J. Krumrei-Mancuso, Professor of Psychology at Pepperdine University, found that a higher willingness to ac know edge cognitive limitations, and the ability to embrace diverse perspectives, are connected with a more accurate perception of intelligence.

How can we use this knowledge to help us in everyday life? Tenelle Porter, a psychologist at Rowan University, told the BBC that knowing this “opens us up to being intellectually humble, to admitting everything that we don’t yet know”. And current studies suggest that those with higher intellectual humility are more open to negotiating, compromising and exploring information.

So, embrace the unknown and remember: there’s always more to learn.

1. What psychological phenomenon is described at the beginning of the text?
A.Those addicted to social media are worse at judging themselves.
B.Those with less expertise are more likely to overvalue themselves.
C.Those with less knowledge are more likely to be influenced by social media.
D.Those accustomed to more face-to-tace conversation tend to be more outgoing.
2. What correlation did Dunning and Kruger find?
A.A correlation between a person’s confidence and profession.
B.A correlation between a person’s personality and his limitations.
C.A correlation between a person’s health condition and his diagnosis.
D.A correlation between a person’s competence and his awareness of self ability.
3. What can we learn from intellectual humility?
A.It means being sensitive to diverse opinions.
B.It means being humble about self-competence.
C.It means being ready to break self-limitations.
D.It means being confident in accepting different comments.
4. Which of the following statements may Tenelle agree with?
A.We should admit others’ virtues.
B.We should ignore our advantages.
C.We should acknowledge our limitations.
D.We should cooperate actively with others.
