文章大意:这是一篇说明文。短文介绍了如何控制好自己的情绪。

2 . One thing you’ll probably notice about being a teenager is that your body isn’t completely used to the changes. In fact, the changes in your brain don't completely settle in most people until their mid-20s. Your body changes in many ways and most of these changes are brought about because of chemicals released in the body.     1    This can be unsettling, as anything happening beyond your control can be.

First, take the moment when no one is talking to you to think about your breathing. By asking that step back from how you’re feeling and examining why you’re feeling it, it is easier to process these emotions. If you’re feeling awkward and embarrassed at school, the easiest thing to do is to ride that emotional wave even if it means a private release of emotions.    2

Fortunately, this isn’t the only way. A mindful approach can be one of the best tools you have. When your mind feels more settled, allow one of the emotions to approach you .    3     If you are feeling stable, perhaps consider why you are feeling it, reminding yourself of the situation—your brain is changing. You’re in a stressful situation, and your body is full of new chemical levels that are creating a mess.     4     You can process it later, when you’re at home, or somewhere more peaceful.

Now, you’ve let it go! It doesn’t need to be a part of you, or control any part of you right now. This can be a very hard trick to master, because your brain is used to being affected by the emotion, and you’re trying to change course now,

5     Even by practicing, you’re acknowledging to yourself that you want to be in control, and that’s the most important first step.

A.Don’t be depressed if it takes practice.
B.Admit what it is, but don’t be controlled by it.
C.As you focus on the present, try focusing on your breathing.
D.Having a sincere conversation with yourself is also a good idea.
E.Letting your tears flow can be a useful and mindful activity.
F.If, after all that, you still feel a need to blame yourself, simply let the emotion go.
G.This means your emotions can be unstable, making your mood change suddenly.

4 . Some of us like to keep some things private — maybe we don’t want people knowing about our relationship, our age or where we live — because these details are personal. The problem is, everywhere we go online, we seem to leave a digital footprint.

On our social media accounts, we often present things like our opinions, connections and holiday photos. The issue is, how do we stop everybody seeing everything? Maybe we don’t want a stranger knowing our favourite type of coffee. And cookies — there was a time they were just something nice to eat. Now they seem to appear unexpectedly on websites. So how can you stay more private?

There are some steps you can take. First, on your social media accounts, check your privacy settings. Many social media sites allow everything to be seen by default (默认), and the responsibility is on you to set your boundaries. And limiting the amount you share isn’t only confined (局限于) to social media. There are many sites out there that help you to share documents — so a good tip may be to not put anything too private, like passwords, on there. One careless click may send it to the wrong person.

Finally, cookies are designed to improve your surfing experience by tracking and saving information about your visits to a site, helping to personalise your sessions. Deleting (删除) your using history may help, but there are certain apps which can block them if you don’t feel comfortable.

So, if you want to maintain your privacy online, maybe only share things you’d be happy with a stranger seeing — and if you don’t feel comfortable with cookies, you might decide to apply some tech to block them. If that’s not enough, just don’t accept them and visit another site — and why not have a yummy cookie to eat instead?

1. What is the article aimed at?
A.Reminding you to update information.
B.Advising you to maintain privacy online.
C.Encouraging you to live a simple digital life.
D.Warning you to delete social media accounts.
2. Why is it important to check privacy settings on social media accounts?
A.To increase the number of followers.
B.To block all the cookies from tracking.
C.To limit the amount of information shared.
D.To prevent strangers from viewing using history.
3. Which step does the author suggest readers take to stay more private?
A.Disable some social media sites.
B.Share passwords with familiar ones.
C.Store documents on public sites.
D.Use suitable apps to block cookies.
4. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.Concerns for personal privacy.B.Recommendation of private apps.
C.Suggestions for protecting privacy.D.Application of high technologies.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了野生动物保护的重要性和措施。

5 . Wildlife conservation is the practice of protecting plant and animal species and their habitats. As part of the world’s ecosystems, wildlife provides balance and stability to nature’s processes. The goal of wildlife conservation is to ensure the survival of these species, and to educate people on living sustainably with other species.

The human population has grown exponentially (呈指数地) over the past 200 years, to more than seven billion people today, and it continues to rapidly grow. This means natural resources are being consumed faster than ever by the billions of people on the planet. This growth and development also endangers the habitats and existence of various types of wildlife around the world, particularly animals and plants that may be displaced for land development, or used for food or other human purposes. Other threats to wildlife include the introduction of invasive species from other parts of the world, climate change, pollution, hunting, fishing, and poaching (偷猎).

International organizations like the World Wildlife Fund, Conservation International, the Wildlife Conservation Society, and the United Nations work to support global animal and habitat conservation efforts on many different fronts. They work with the government to establish and protect public lands, like national parks and wildlife refuges (野生动物保护区). They help write legislation (立法), such as the Endangered Species Act (ESA) of 1973 in the United States, to protect various species. They work with law enforcement to prosecute (检举) wildlife crimes, like wildlife trafficking and poaching. They also promote biodiversity to support the growing human population while preserving existing species and habitats.

National Geographic Explorers, like conservation biologists Camille Coudrat and Titus Adhola, are working to slow the extinction of global species and to protect global biodiversity and habitats. Environmental filmmakers and photographers, like Thomas P. Peschak, are essential to conservation efforts as well, documenting and bringing attention to endangered wildlife all over the world.

1. Which is a goal of wildlife conservation?
A.To limit population growth.B.To manage natural resources.
C.To promote land development.D.To encourage harmonious coexistence.
2. What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Rapid population growth.B.Resource consumption.
C.Wildlife conservation.D.Climate change.
3. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.The role of international organizations.B.The importance of biodiversity promotion.
C.The activities of conservation organizations.D.The impact of wildlife crimes on ecosystems.
4. Why are some figures mentioned in the last paragraph?
A.To emphasize the importance of law enforcement.
B.To show the achievements of wildlife conservation.
C.To provide statistics on wildlife conservation efforts.
D.To recognize the contributions of certain individuals.

6 . Humiliation (蒙羞). Many of us have experienced that fearful feeling of just wanting the ground to open up and get down, right?     1     But what is humiliation, and how can we move on from it?

Humiliation is quite often compared to the feeling of shame. Shame is more of a private feeling of regret and dishonor, which results from having said or done something wrong or stupid. For example, a good person will feel ‘shameful’ for speaking or doing something mean to a friend.     2     However, the case of humiliation differs. It is described as a strong feeling that comes with loss of self-respect. Imagine your workmates shock you by unfairly calling you out on your work during a meeting with your boss. Or your friend may look down upon you by questioning your knowledge in a hobby or interest in front of your other friends.     3

So, how can you deal with it? According to psychologist Robert J. Sternberg, there are a few steps you can take. First, you must accept the humiliation and realize you’re not the only one who has felt like this.     4     Also, don’t immediately try and fight back for ‘round 2’ —often humiliation isn’t personal.

Lastly, resilience (恢复力) seems to be extremely important. Some people say: “What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger”.     5     Why not use the disadvantage as motivation (动力) to become a better worker or learn more about that hobby or interest? It could be an opportunity to start spending more time in doing something you love. That way it may have an unexpected benefit.

A.While humiliation probably won’t kill you, it can hurt.
B.It occurs when someone decides to make us feel small.
C.It makes that person feel bad and regretful of his behavior.
D.Therefore, talk to others who have experienced it and move on.
E.Thus, this article helps to understand this painful private feeling.
F.The presence of others is the key factor—a public dressing-down.
G.So, take the challenge to make it known to the public and fight back.

8 . As an adult, one of the first questions you are asked when meeting someone new is, “What do you do?” This is because your career is a very important part of who you are. The career you have defines your life, and so taking time to think about it is an essential exercise for young people.

One of the most effective ways to get some insight on a possible career path is to complete a “career aptitude (才能) test”. There are many different kinds of career aptitude tests. Some ask questions about your personal interests and attitudes. Others focus more on asking you to rate different kinds of work scenarios (场景), like working as a librarian or a lawyer. Of course, while completing these sorts of tests, it is very important to be honest — and don’t worry — there are no right or wrong answers.

One popular test asks the participants to grade their preferences for a variety of work tasks. Their answers are then analyzed and divided up between six different types of work personalities. The participant is then given a chart showing their score for each type of work personality. The top three scores are used to make a code that indicates the participant’s overall work personality. This code is then used to generate a list of career suggestions.

The career suggestions are also based on your education and experience level, but you can look at higher-level careers as well, which is very useful for high school students. For example, you could look at the basic careers to see what work you might like now, and then look at the more advanced careers so you know what you may like to aim for in the future. This is a great tool to help plan your career and let you know what targets you need to reach to get there.

In conclusion, career aptitude tests are clearly a very useful tool. So try a few tests online and start thinking about your future career right now!

1. Why does the author ask the question in paragraph 1?
A.To support an idea.B.To introduce a topic.

2. What can we learn about the career aptitude test?
A.It determines your future career.
B.It should be answered truthfully.
C.It stresses the accuracy of test answers.
D.It only cares about personal interests and attitudes
3. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The theory of coding.B.The advice on career planning.
C.The variety of work personalities.D.The process of a career aptitude test.
4. What does the author suggest us doing?
A.Changing our jobs frequently.B.Upgrading our levels of education.
C.Following the career advice strictly.D.Pursuing advancement in our careers.

9 . The Power of Meaningful Communication

The foundation of any happy and successful relationship is good communication.     1     However, developing this skill requires both work and a readiness to be open to one another. Here are some helpful tips to help you and your partner communicate more effectively and strengthen your relationship.

Cultivate active listening. According to Medium, a key part of good communication is listening. Giving your full attention to your partner and maintaining eye contact are examples of active listening.     2     To create a secure environment for real discussion, demonstrate empathy and confirm their feelings.

Be mindful of non-verbal communication.     3     A good amount of communication takes place in the non-verbal areas, including body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice. Be aware of your own nonverbal signals and work to appropriately figure out those of your partner. When talking about delicate subjects, be open-minded and convey your feelings with a respectful tone of voice.

Practice empathy and understanding. According to mindbodygreen.com, empathy and understanding can go a long way in creating good communication. Seek to understand your partner’s perspective and emotions, even when you disagree. Empathy allows you to connect on a deeper level and creates an atmosphere of mutual support.     4

5     Encourage an environment where both parties feel comfortable sharing their feelings. Avoiding criticism, being defensive or acting disrespectfully will promote open and honest dialogue. Rather than pointing fingers at one another, engage in active problem solving by addressing problems jointly. Both partners should feel comfortable expressing concerns in a relationship and good communication can help you problem-solve.

A.Create a safe space for open dialogue.
B.Communicate with appreciation and respect.
C.Communication is more than just the words that you speak.
D.Make time for regular discussions to talk about your relationship’s status.
E.Avoid asking questions or responding before they have completed speaking.
F.It deepens the bond between partners by promoting understanding and trust.
G.Engage with your partner without judgment and try to put yourself in their shoes.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了地磁暴的相关知识。

10 . The sun’s “sneeze” arrived as predicted! China’s National Center for Space Weather (NCSW) forecast geomagnetic activities (地磁活动) to occur from March 24 to 26. According to geomagnetic monitoring data, Earth experienced a geomagnetic storm that continued for 12 hours on March 25. Geomagnetic storms happen due to coronal mass ejections (CMEs,日冕物质抛射) during which some material from the sun’s outer layer makes its way to Earth. They can shoot out a huge amount of material and carry a strong magnetic field, which causes major changes in Earth’s magnetic environment.

“Geomagnetic storms can disrupt radio waves and cause problems for ground communication and satellite signals,” Professor Cai Zheng from Tsinghua University told Xinhua. This can influence the accuracy of navigation (导航) systems and the quality of signals for phones and satellite TV. Strong geomagnetic storms can also impact power transmission systems, even resulting in power failure. To reduce the effects of geomagnetic storms, it’s recommended to power off unnecessary electronic devices, especially high-powered ones, to prevent damage or fire. Critical equipment and infrastructure (基础设施) also require special protective measures, including regular checks and data backups, noted Guangming Daily.

Intense geomagnetic activity can also affect the migration and navigation abilities of animals. For instance, homing pigeons rely on Earth’s magnetic field for navigation during flight. Geomagnetic storms can affect their ability to find their way, making it difficult for them to return home.

Despite these disruptions, what about the impact of such storms on humans? Shortly after the recent geomagnetic storm, the topic of “geomagnetic storms and sleep” trended on Sina Weibo with some internet users claiming that they had trouble sleeping. However, it was just a convenient excuse. “Geomagnetic storms don’t influence human health,” Zong Weiguo at China Meteorological Administration told Science and Technology Daily.

1. What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A.Geomagnetic storms are caused by CMEs.
B.Geomagnetic storms change the Earth’s environment.
C.The Geomagnetic storm predicted by NCSW lasted 3 days.
D.Some substances from the sun’s inner layer focus magnetic fields.
2. What effects may geomagnetic storms have?
A.They make it difficult for people to sleep.B.They sharpen animals’ sense of direction.
C.They force electronic devices power-off.D.They bring inconvenience to human life.
3. What measures are advised to minimize the impacts of geomagnetic storms?
A.Deleting unnecessary data frequently.B.Avoiding driving out during that period.
C.Checking important equipment regularly.D.Turning off the badly-needed electronics.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.Geomagnetic storms: Valuable natural activities.
B.Geomagnetic storms: Uninvited guests from the sun.
C.Geomagnetic storms: An unpredictable phenomenon.
D.Geomagnetic storms: Convenient excuses for humans.
