Located near a wide piece of cornfields in Xinjia Village is a museum about Mahu Opera, a traditional art of the Northeast China. Developed on a site formerly used as a primary school, this museum has five exhibition rooms with nearly 2,000 objects on show, including masks, costumes, instruments and books, most of which were donated by a local inheritor(继承者) of intangible cultural heritage. “By exhibiting them in the village, I hope to let more people know about the ancient form of art originating in the region,” said the inheritor.

In Xinjia village, with a population of only about 2,800, there are now five museums built near local houses.

3 . To improve road safety and raise awareness among Russia’s notoriously (臭名昭著地) careless drivers, Russian police have tried to get drivers to slow down at zebra (斑马) crossings by having painted horses as zebras walk across on the busiest streets in some of the big cities.

The light grey horses, painted with black stripes (条纹), carried signs on their backs reading: “Careful, children are on their way to school.” The police sent the “zebras” to several different locations in the Russian capital, where officials in orange vests walked them over zebra crossings and handed out leaflets (传单) to passing drivers.

Some held up rainbow-coloured umbrellas over the painted animals to protect them from the rain. Russian roads are notoriously dangerous and drivers still rarely take steps to avoid pedestrians (行人). Nearly half of all traffic accidents in the country’s big cities are caused by cars hitting pedestrians, and a third of those occur on crossings, according to traffic police figures published last month.

In the first six months of this year, 378 people were killed and more than 6, 600 injured on pedestrian crossings in Russia, according to police. In Moscow alone, 43 people were killed, including two children.

Though police officials said that only safe paint would be used on the animals, animal rights activists still disagreed with the idea, accusing the police of “treating animals like garbage”.

“Children understand that paints are bad for animals,” the Interfax news agency quoted president of Vita animal rights group Irina Novozhilova as saying.

Let’s hope this part of the campaign is over and animals are left out of future attempts to raise pedestrians’ awareness.

1. Why do Moscow police have “zebras” walk across on the busiest streets?
A.To make a call on protecting animals.
B.To raise drivers’ awareness of road safety.
C.To tell people it is dangerous to cross streets.
D.To remind people zebras are in danger of extinction.
2. What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.The zebras.B.The policemen.C.The horses.D.The drivers.
3. What do animal rights activists think of the new attempt?
A.Drivers must slow down at pedestrian crossings.
B.Road safety should be improved.
C.The paints used on the horses are safe.
D.These animals are ill-treated by the police.
4. Which word can best describe the author’s attitude towards the campaign?
A.Critical.B.Confident.C.Doubtful.D.Positive.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了科学家在大西洋海域发现了一头灰鲸。

5 . Scientists have confirmed the presence of a gray whale off New England in North America recently. The large sea animal disappeared from the Atlantic Ocean two centuries ago. Researchers with the New England Aquarium (水族馆) in Boston found the gray whale on March 1. The whale, which can weigh over 27,000 kilograms, was likely the same animal observed off the coast of Florida last year. Though the gray whale disappeared from the Atlantic Ocean by the 18th century, there have been five observations of the animal in the last 15 years.

They can be identified by the lack of a part of a body often seen on other whales: a back fin. Also, they can be identified by the look which is different from the humpback (座头鲸) and other whales. Gray whales can also be identified by the unusual sounds they make. The researchers said they were not sure at first. But after circling the area for 45 minutes, they were able to take photographs that confirmed it was a gray whale.

Scientists said they were thrilled to see the animal, but its presence probably has to do with the warming of the planet. The Northwest Passage, which connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through the Arctic Ocean in Canada, has lacked ice in the summer in recent years. That means gray whales can travel through the passage in the summer when normally they would have been blocked. So the animal’s arrival off New England exemplifies the effect of climate change.

Gray whales were almost completely killed off by hunting during the years of commercial whaling. Today, the whales have recovered to the point where they are considered a species of “least concern” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. However, the western whales that live off the coast of Asia still belong to the endangered species.

1. How can researchers identify the gray whale?
A.By tracking its travelling route.B.By studying the collected data.
C.By the typical appearance and sounds.D.By comparing its photos with the previous ones.
2. What does the underlined word “exemplifies” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Congratulates.B.Reflects.C.Threatens.D.Targets.
3. What’s the situation of the western whales that live off Asian coast?
A.They still need to be preserved.B.Their population has been recovered greatly.
C.They were extinct due to commercial hunting.D.They have been removed from the endangered list.
4. What’s the best title of the text?
A.Scientists Were Worried to Find a Gray Whale
B.A Gray Whale Was Found off North America
C.Gray Whales Disappeared From the Atlantic Ocean
D.The Climate Warming Changes Gray Whale’s Habitats

文章大意:本文是说明文,文章介绍了Zahamena国家公园。

8 . Set 40 kilometers northeast of the city of Ambatondrazaka, Madagascar, the Zahamena National Park has overall land coverage of 643 square kilometers, but only about 420 square kilometers is open to the public. It receives an average rainfall level of around 6 feet every year and experiences frequent rain showers even during the dry season between April and October. And elevations (海拔) inside the park range from 250 to 1,560 meters, which has resulted in a diversity (多样性) of climates.

One really interesting thing about the Zahamena National Park is its unique highland landform (高地地貌). The development of several ecosystems that all together exist within its area greatly depends on it. And this is also the reason why the types of wildlife living in one area of its wide range are different in another, which makes it quite exciting to explore.

This protected region’s main area is divided into two parts: the eastern and western areas, with a separate piece of ground in the middle where many small villages are located. Zahamena means “red trees”, which suggests a tree species scientifically called Diatum unifoliatum. It lives only in Zahamena and is characterized by its typically deep reddish-orange color.

Established as a strict natural highland habitat for nature conservation (保护) in 1927, the Zahamena National Park was officially awarded the honorary title of national park in 1997 and was finally opened to the public. Due to its amazing landform and unique local biodiversity, this national park was later listed as a key part of the Rainforests of the Atsinanana in 2007.

Unluckily, there are no hotels or restaurants around the national park. So Zahamena is not an easy rainforest—this national park needs people with a high level of fitness and people with low requirements concerning accommodations. Everyone who is not discouraged by this will be able to expect an amazing rainforest experience in a location which has a small number of tourists.

1. What do we know about the Zahamena National Park?
A.It is hard to reach due to conservation rules.
B.It has changeable weather all year round.
C.It has a great difference in elevations.
D.It is famous for its traditional villages.
2. What has caused several ecosystems in the park?
A.The complete food chain of wildlife there.
B.The wet weather condition there.
C.The conservation efforts there.
D.The special landform there.
3. What is the Zahamena National Park most probably named after?
A.A cultural belief.B.A local tree species.
C.The unique geography.D.The local village group.
4. What does the underlined word “this” in the last paragraph refer to?
A.The tough condition of Zahamena.B.People’s high level of fitness.
C.Its geographical location.D.The diversity of climates.

9 . Are you an “I person” or an “E person”? These two personality labels in particular are widely discussed online. They are part of a popular personality test called the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI. All of the results have four letters, and there are 16 results in total. “I” and “E” refer to “introverted” and “extroverted”, respectively.

Even if someone is typically quiet, many online discussions suggest that an “I” person can still be outgoing at times. For example, when an introverted person is with a group of introverted friends, they might become more social like an “E” person.

According to psychologists, this idea of temporarily switching personalities is called “masking”. That is hiding your true personality in specific situations. “Human beings want to feel they belong, and they might become people-pleasers to do so,” wrote the Master Class website.

Using the MBTI result to identify and describe someone’s personality seems fun. However, I went too far at one time. My sister was excitedly making a day-to-day travel plan when I remembered from an article that “P people” don’t like to make or stick to plans, so I said to her, “You don’t seem like a ‘P person’.” “Why?” She asked back. “Since when do I need to follow what my personality test tells me to do?” It was then that I realized I’d taken the result too seriously.

The MBTI personality test may show something you don’t know about yourself and can even be a fun ice-breaker question when meeting new friends. And that’s all it is —for fun. On the other hand, knowing someone’s MBTI result doesn’t mean you really know this person. And those four letters of yours don’t define who you are.

1. In which of the following situations an “I” person may perform more sociably?
A.Having a conversation with an “E” person.
B.Wanting to feel someone’s sense of belonging.
C.Taking the personality test and accepting its result.
D.Staying with some friends with similar personalities.
2. What does the underlined word “masking” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Pleasing.B.Escaping.C.Pretending.D.Controlling.
3. What does the author want to tell us by the example in paragraph 4?
A.The MBTI result is of great help to identify a person.
B.A “P” person is unwilling to make or stick to plans.
C.People need to follow the advice of the MBTI test.
D.Don’t take the MBTI result too seriously all the time.
4. What is the author’s attitude towards the MBTI personality test?
A.Indifferent.B.Objective.C.Positwe.D.Negative.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。荷兰的一个学生团队发明了一款被称为ZEM的电动汽车,它不仅在行驶时不会产生二氧化碳,而且实际上可以将二氧化碳从空气中抽出来。文章对此进行了介绍。

10 . Imagine driving behind a huge truck shooting clouds of smoke into the air while your new fully electric vehicle cleans up its carbon emissions (排放). This dream may soon be a reality. A team of students in the Netherlands has created an electric car that not only doesn’t produce carbon dioxide when driving, but actually pulls it out of the air.

The two-seater sports car was designed and built in less than a year by a team of 32 students at Eindhoven University of Technology. Called “ZEM”, which stands for “zero emission mobility”, the car is equipped with special devices that remove carbon dioxide from the air as it drives. The team says if ZEM is driven about 32,000 kilometers, it can remove 2 kilograms of carbon dioxide from the air. That s not a huge amount. The team calculates that 10 ZEM cars on the road for a year would remove as much carbon dioxide as a typical tree does during that time. However, they also point out that there are over a billion passenger cars in the world that could be using this technology. And if a billion cars were removing carbon dioxide instead of producing it, the result would be huge.

ZEM also has several other innovations that help to make it more capable of being sustained: the car’s frame and panels (面板) are 3D printed to reduce waste; it was built using recycle and recyclable materials; and it can be easily taken apart so that many of its parts can be reused. ZEM’s battery is also reusable and has another handy feature: it can be charged with solar panels on the car’s roof — and can even be used to provide power to your house when the car isn’t on the road.

According to the statistics, transportation was responsible for over 20% of global carbon dioxide emissions in 2020 — and of those emissions, cars were responsible for 41%. The Eindhoven team says its goal is to challenge the electric car industry: If 32 students can build a car like this in less than a year, then surely car manufacturers (生产商) are expected to adopt these innovations, too.

1. What is special about ZEM?
A.It can end the world’s CO₂ release.B.It can cut the truck’s CO₂ emissions.
C.It can reduce the level of CO₂ in the air.D.It can absorb dirty air as well as CO₂.
2. Why does the team run the calculation of ZEM in paragraph 2?
A.To show a promising future of ZEM cars.
B.To explain how ZEM removes CO₂ as trees do.
C.To illustrate the ongoing change in car making.
D.To show the influence of ZEM on the car market.
3. What is the obvious advantage of ZEM according to Paragraph 3?
A.They are of high quality.B.They are easy to process.
C.They are convenient to print.D.They are environmentally friendly.
4. What does the Eindhoven team hope to achieve in the future?
A.Sharp increase in fuel consumption.B.More production of eco-friendly cars.
C.Big success in beating other car makers.D.Reduced costs in transportation.
