4 . Amsterdam is known for brownies and Van Gogh, but here are four unique museums in Amsterdam that should be on your radar.

Kattenkabinet

If it wasn't for the black-and-white sign hanging above the door of Herengracht 497, you might easily walk past the Kattenkabinet, a museum dedicated exclusively to the role of cats in art. Situated in a stately 17th-century house, the museum was founded by Bob Meijer. He purchased and renovated the mansion in 1985 and opened the museum five years later in honour of his cat.

Opened in 2017 and situated on Rokin 102, it's a platform for innovation and collaboration seeking solutions to steer the fashion industry away from the "take-make-waste"pattern which has hugely impacted our environment. At their interactive studio, you'll even get the chance to design the world's most sustainable T-shirt.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。体育赛事为许多有抱负的记者和作家提供了练习技艺的肥沃土壤。这里有四种方法可以帮助你开始。

5 . Sporting events provide a fruitful ground for many ambitious journalists and writers to practice their craft. Here are four methods to help you get started.

1     You may have an editor assigning your topic, or you may be a freelancer (自由职业者) choosing your own. Regardless, be familiar with the most common forms of sports articles and determine which best matches your task. You can leaf through your local newspaper, favorite sports magazine, or go-to sports website and think about what makes certain articles stand out.

●Be familiar with the sport you are covering. When you're starting out, if you have the choice, cover the sport you know best. Sports fans are known for their passion and not necessarily for their patience.     2     If you make mistakes in your report, they will probably tune you out quickly.

●Go to the game, and make the most of being there. Watch closely.     3     Take note of interesting details, such as how the players celebrated at the end or the feel of the crowd that night.     4     You'll find passionate fans, eager participants, and a good environment for covering a sporting event from several angles there.

● Start with a great hook. News article writing relies on an “inverted pyramid” structure, where the most substantial elements are found at the top of the article, and the information becomes less weighty and important as one approaches the bottom. Readers always start but don't always finish an article.     5

A.They are particular about sports articles.
B.Know the type of article you are writing.
C.Ask permission to record your interviews.
D.So make sure they get your best stuff up front.
E.Keep track of important plays, scores, and statistics.
F.They provide the most essential information of games.
G.Local sporting events are good places for sportswriters.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了研究表明黑猩猩也有提前思考的能力,解释了研究开展的经过以及意义。

6 . We are no longer the only animal known to think ahead and prepare for two possible futures -chimpanzees can do it too. If you are unsure whether it will be sunny or raining later, you might grab sunscreen and an umbrella before you leave home. This ability to consider different eventualities, known as modal reasoning, is essential to human cognition (认知).

The previous study results weren’t accepted by all, though, because the study expected the chimpanzees to use behaviors that don’t come naturally to them, says Jan Engelmann at the University of California, Berkeley. To demonstrate chimpanzees’ competence, Engelmann and his colleagues have tried an alternative method relying on behaviour that comes more naturally to the animals.

Working at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Uganda, where the animals can roam in 95 acres of forest, the researchers put individual chimpanzees in front of two tilting (可倾斜的) platforms, each with a piece of food on it. The first version of the experiment used an opaque cylindrical tube (不透明的圆柱管) above one of the platforms, through which the team would drop a rock. If the chimpanzee didn’t intervene, the food would fall, but if it stabilized the platform with its hands, it would be given the food as a reward. In this experiment, the 15 chimpanzees only stabilized the platform they knew the rock would hit.

The second experiment used an opaque inverted (倒置的) Y-shaped tube with an exit above each platform. Not knowing which platform the rock was going to hit meant the chimpanzees would behave differently. Thirteen of the 15 were more likely to steady both platforms to protect both pieces of food.

“To my knowledge, they’re the first non-human animals who demonstrate competence in a task measuring the representation of alternative possibilities,” says Engelmann.

“The representation of alternative possibilities is fundamental to many cognitive capacities that humans are proud of, like creativity and morality,” says Engelmann. “It’s quite exciting to think that there might be an evolutionary history to this ability as well.”

1. What are paragraphs 3 and 4 mainly about?
A.The process of the experiments.B.The background of the experiments.
C.The significance of the experiments.D.The equipment of the experiments.
2. Why did the researcher drop a rock through the tube in the first experiment?
A.To attract the chimpanzees’ attention.B.To keep the balance of the platform.
C.To see how the chimpanzees would react to it.D.To prevent the chimpanzees accessing the food.
3. What does Engelmann think of the finding of the experiments?
A.Puzzling.B.ThrillingC.EmbarrassingD.Disappointing
4. What can we learn from the experiments?
A.Chimpanzees demonstrate the ability to think ahead.
B.Cognitive capacities matter in chimpanzees’ evolution.
C.Modal reasoning is an ability unique to human beings.
D.Chimpanzees have formed a sense of creativity and morality.

文章大意:本文是一篇新闻报道,主要讲述了南京农业大学的一个研究团队开发出了一个大型语言模型——荀子,这个模型可以帮助人们更容易地阅读古代中文文本,并从中挖掘出更多的信息。

7 . Recently, a research team from Nanjing Agriculural University has rolled out Xunzi — a large language model (LLM)

Wang Dongbo, the leader of the research team, said that the large language model was named after Xunzi because Xunzi was not only an outstanding Confucian philosopher during the late Warring States Period (475 — 221 BC), but also a pioneer in presenting and explaining theories of linguistics in ancient China.

When asked why he and his team made the large language model, Wang explained, “Traditional Chinese characters, vertical layout (竖版), the absence of pausing and punctuation are all barriers that readers have to overcome when they read traditional texts.”

To create Xunzi the LLM,Wang and his team first needed to do a lot of research. Since 2013, his team has worked tirelessly to digitize Chinese classics like the Siku Quanshu.

“The hard work involves a large-scale corpus (语料库) of two billion Chinese characters, which has laid a solid foundation for the large language model,” said Wang. But their efforts seem to have paid off.

Now Xunzi the LLM can tag (标记), translate, punctuate, and understand scraps (片段) of ancient Chinese texts. It can even do part-of-speech analysis and retrieve (检索) specific information, such as names, events, and places from a text.

Through Xunzi's retrieval function, users can get more specifie cultural information. “The model can help us mine for more information hidden in our cultural legacy and find unnoticed models and connections,” said Wang. But Wang and his team aren't simply focused on target users in China. They are aiming at the rest of the world as well. They have shared the LLM on GitHub and other websites, allowing users to download and use it for free.

“Our team is committed to the philosophy of making our data and model globally accessible. We hope this will encourage more people to appreciate traditional Chinese culture,” Wang explained.

1. Why was the language model created?
A.To appreciate the philosophy of Xunzi.B.To simplify traditional Chinese characters.
C.To help read ancient Chinese texts easily.D.To digitize more ancient Chinese classics.
2. What can Xunzi the LLM currently do?
A.Establish a large-scale corpus.
B.Correct people's pronunciation.
C.Recommend the works of Xunzi.
D.Turn ancient texts into modern versions.
3. What does the underlined phrase “mine for” in paragraph 7 mean?
A.Dig out.B.Look through.
C.Turn to.D.Put forward.
4. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Xunzi: An Influential Scholar in Ancient China
B.LLM Released for Ancient Chinese Book Research
C.Traditional Chinese Culture Regaining Attention
D.An Innovative Way to Know about Chinese History

8 . Most of us get distracted with push notifications (通知), text messages and phone calls. With so much going on, it can be very difficult to stay focused, but it’s not impossible.

Turn Off Alerts (提醒)

Constant notifications and text messages are every college student’s enemy.     1     Close unnecessary tabs on your computer. You can fight online distractions by blocking or hiding time-wasting websites and apps.

Break Down Your Work into Smaller Tasks

If you’re having a difficult time studying or getting work done, break up your time effectively.     2     Studies show that taking breaks can help you retain information and increase productivity.

Find the Right Place to Do Work

Some students work best with a little background noise, while others need complete quiet.     3     Are you the kind of person who works better in silence at the library? Or do you prefer the campus coffee shop with noise? Try a few different spaces and see how each study session works out.

Clear Your Desk

Is your desk covered with stacks of papers? Is your computer monitor framed with layers of sticky notes?     4     A messy workspace can keep you from getting your work done. Go through your desk and keep only the essentials. A clean workspace can help reduce anxiety and make room for motivation.

Reward Yourself

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。大量的研究证明了杂乱的危险,如果你能学会如何整理,你会感到更少的疲惫,提高你在办公室的工作效率,并大大改善你的生活质量。

9 . One reason disorganization is so often tied to mental health is that it can have a negative impact on the way we see ourselves and the lives we lead. The studied downsides of living in a disorganized environment include a memory impediment (障碍), poor eating habits, and an increased chance of developing mood disorders. There’s also a link between the stress hormone and living in a disorganized space and disorganization can lead to anxiety disorders.

Nearly every mental health downside that comes from disorganization can be improved by getting organized. You’ll feel less exhaustion, enhance your productivity at the office, and greatly improve the quality of your life if you can learn how to become organized.

Though many people recognize and desire the mental and physical health benefits that come from becoming more organized, some don’t know where to begin.

“I advise starting small,” says Natalie Christine Dattilo, a psychologist. “It’s easy to become overwhelmed if you try to tackle an entire room, so you can set yourself up for success by starting with a single drawer, bookshelf, or kitchen closet.” She also suggests making organization more enjoyable by listening to music or an audio-book while you’re at it and “spending time in your newly organized space to let yourself enjoy it.”

When it comes to the process of organizing, Julie Morgenstern, a professional organizer, advises sorting items into categories such as keep, throw, and relocate. She suggests having a place for every item you want to keep, removing items you won’t use, and storing elsewhere seasonal items o decoration you don’t need to access often.

It’s also important to remember that becoming organized includes digital organizing as well. Unsubscribe from things you don’t read, delete emails, make a new folder and move just a few emails or documents a day. Just giving yourself five minutes a day to get organized will get a lot done over the course of a few weeks and will help build habits to stay organized.

1. What effect may disorganization have on us according to paragraph 1?
A.Training our memory.B.Causing digestive disorders.
C.Relieving anxiety and exhaustion.D.Increasing chances of adjusting our mood.
2. What should we do to get organized?
A.Start by cleaning the kitchen.B.Thoroughly clean the entire house.
C.Begin with cleaning up a little item.D.Listen to the music before you clean up.
3. What does paragraph 5 mainly tell us?
A.Where to put our items.B.When to organize our items.
C.How to organize our items.D.What to do to store our items.
4. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Tidying up digital areas is necessary.B.People use electronic products too much.
C.Digital technology can help us save time.D.Emails and documents are hard to organize.

10 . Human history is full of horse stories like guiding cowboys home on foggy nights and taking wounded soldiers through battle zones. Such sensible and highly trained horses made Elina Jatel, a computer scientist and roboticist, think of robots. “A horse that can take a rider home on its own would be the highest level of autonomy,” Jatel says. “You trust them with your life.” She was drawn to learning how such relationships form and if it could help improve human-robot interactions.

For a year, Jatel engaged herself in the horse world. She watched classes in horse training, and she also talked with students, instructors, trainers and horse owners. Along the way, Jatel even learned to ride.

Horses learn signals from their trainers on how to comfortably interact with people. People, too, must learn their part. Riders must learn what a horse wants or feels based on its behavior, and what signals to use to direct horses to perform in desired ways. Jatel found some similarities, here, to working with robots. People must learn how to direct robots to do specific tasks. They also must learn what to do when robots don’t perform as planned. The goal is to program robots that will respond predictably to inputs from people. But like horses, autonomous robots also should be able to respond on their own as conditions change. For example, a self-driving car must stop to avoid hitting something, even if some human mistakenly tells it to keep going.

Trainers and riders work with horses to build respect. Horses show that respect by matching their pace to a human or giving someone who is leading them a safe degree of personal space. Trainers begin their work with a horse by getting them to show signs of respect in basic interactions, Jatel says. Later, trainers will develop more complex interactions. Gradually, a horse’s respect can grow into trust.

But that trust is not given. And there may be a similar limitation with robots. What would it mean for robots and people to respect and trust each other? For now, she adds, this is largely uncharted territory. But she’s looking to build a path.

1. What drew Elina Jatel’s attention to horses?
A.Horses’ amazing performance.B.Long history of horse training.
C.Horse-human interdependence.D.Her horse-riding experience.
2. What are the robots of the highest autonomy designed to do?
A.To act like real horses.B.To show respect to humans.
C.To follow instructions from humans.D.To make independent and sensible decisions.
3. What will Jatel’s future research most probably focus on?
A.The limitations of robots.B.Trust between robots and humans.
C.Path toward higher robot efficiency.D.Similarities between horses and robots.
4. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.History of Human-Horse RelationshipB.Secrets of Human-Animal Interactions
