文章大意:本文是议论文。文章主要论述什么样的人是快乐的人。

1 . The Happy Man

The happy man lives objectively, and has free love and wide interests, through which he secures his happiness. To be the receivers of love is a vital cause of happiness, but the man who demands love is not the man to whom it is given.     1     But it is useless to attempt to give love as a calculation, for it is not sincere and is not felt.

What then can a man do who is unhappy because he is enclosed in self? If he is to get out of the vicious (恶性的) circle of unhappiness, it must be by true interests. But before that, he should analyze his trouble first.     2     If fear is his trouble, let him practice exercises designed to give courage.

Admit to himself every day at least one painful truth.     3     Exercises of this sort will enable him to admit facts and will free him from the fear to a large extent.

4     Do not say to yourself in advance, “I should be happy if I could become interested in stamp-collecting,” and thus set to work to collect stamps, for it may well happen that you will altogether fail to find stamp-collecting interesting. You may be pretty sure that true objective interests will grow up as soon as you have learnt not to be self-centered.

All unhappiness depends upon lack of integration (融合). There is disintegration within the self, consciously and unconsciously or between the self and society.     5     Such a man feels himself a citizen of the universe, enjoying what it affords, untroubled by the death because he feels not separate from those who will come after him.

A.There is much he can do about it.
B.The man who receives love is the man who gives it.
C.The interests will arise when you overcome being self-centered.
D.The happy life is to an extraordinary extent the same as the good life.
E.Teach himself life is worth even not having great virtue or intelligence.
F.Self-denying leaves a man self-absorbed and aware of his own sacrifice.
G.Neither divided against the self nor the world, the happy man never fails to unite.

3 . Pollution is a disaster for the soil. When chemicals go into the ground, they slowly reduce the fertility of the soil and make it unsuitable for farming. They may also change the structure of the     soil , which gets more easily destroyed by water and air.

For ordinary consumers, the influence of soil pollution can be felt most strongly in the supermarket. Exposure( 暴 露 ) to soil pollution can pollute foods grown in the field, harming people’s health.

One example of this is the “ poisonous rice event” that surfaced in 2013. Some rice from Hunan province was found to contain higher levels of cadmium(镉), a kind of metal likely to cause cancer, because Hunan has some of the worst soil pollution in China, according to CBC News. All the samples collected from this area were heavily polluted by cadmium. Sometimes, the cadmium level is 20 times higher than the national standard.

According to scientists, high levels of cadmium have been linked to organ( 器官) failure, weakening of bones and cancer. “ Cadmium is likely to store up in the kidney and liver,” Chen Nengchang, a scholar at the Guangdong Institute of Eco-environment and Soil Sciences, told The New York Times. “ When the amount reaches a certain point, it will cause a serious health risk for the organs.”

Unfortunately, fixing the problem was not as simple as destroying a few piles of rice. Since the outer covering of rice are often used to feed farm animals, the meat we eat and the milk we drink may both be at risk.

Luckily both the government and Chinese consumers have becomes more and more aware of this kind of pollutions, and aim to fight the situation with combined effort. There are many things we, as individual, can do to help. Eating organic foods are one of them.

Organic food is not only better for our health but also for our environment, especially the soil. To grow organic food, farmers stop using all artificial chemicals------including fertilizers, and pesticides. This production method does not cause any risk of soil pollution, unlike traditional   farming, which uses tons of artificial chemicals. By consuming organic foods, we support healthier soil.

1. Which of the following is NOT mentioned about the influence of soil pollution?
A.The production of the crops will decrease greatly.
B.The soil will be poor in quality and improper for farming.
C.The foods grown in the polluted field harm people’s health.
D.The soil will become more easily destroyed by water and air.
2. What happened to the rice from Hunan province in 2013?
A.It caused cancer or death.
B.Some contained more vitamins.
C.It was reported as an advertisement.
D.Some had higher levels of cadmium.
3. The underlined “ the problem” in paragraph 5 refers to        .
A.the polluted soilB.the failing organC.the poisonous riceD.the sick farm animals.
4. What can be learned about organic food according to the text?
A.The government has realized the importance of it.
B.It is good for both our health and the environment.
C.Its production method is easier than the traditional one.
D.Farmers used fewer fertilizers and pesticides when growing it.

4 . When I was seven, my parents explained to me that my sister would be different.     1     But now I realize I see the world in a much different way, all thanks to her.

Throughout our lives, my sister has often got stared at because she has Down syndrome (唐氏综合征), which makes her appear abnormal. There were times when I had to struggle with her.     2     I simply thought. “Everyone else is just staring and that is wrong. They should offer us help instead of staring at us like it’s a circus act (马戏表演).”

I had this in mind when I was traveling alone recently and saw a mother and a son with special needs at the airport gate.     3     They were heading towards the gate of their second departure of the day. The mother was obviously stressed out and trying to keep her son calm while some items were falling out of her un-zipped (拉开拉链的) backpack. The son was pulling strangers’clothes, and she appeared to be embarrassed about it. Then the boy began to scream, looking very scared and confused.

Some people gave the son and mother strange looks, the same kind of looks my sister and I would sometimes get.     4     I tried to help calm the boy down by assuring him he was going to see his grandmother as his mom kept telling him. When the boy finally calmed down, I returned to my seat. At the time, an older gentleman turned around and said to me. “I thought about doing what you did, but I just thought about it. You did it.”

To be honest. I didn’t even really regard what I did as something different or good.     5

A.They had got off another plane.
B.People would stare at us even more.
C.I don’t know what I should do to help.
D.But I went up and asked if I could lend a hand.
E.I just consider it as the only choice in that situation.
F.I was so angry that I shouted loudly at the strangers.
G.I had no idea what impact she would have on my daily life.
