The Great Wall

The Great Wall, a     1     (memory) landmark, is one of the most appealing attractions in China. It     2     (fascinate) the minds of many in the world in the past several decades.

The Great Wall resembles a Chinese dragon circling the mountains,     3     (wind) its way westwards over the vast land of China.     4     (doubt), looking down at the Great Wall from the sky is amazing. As early as the Spring and Autumn Period, each principality (候国) in China constructed its own “great wall”     5     (defend) itself from enemies. They built many a “great wall” in the early days,     6     extended several hundred li length. The Chinese name “Chang Cheng” or “Long Wall” came     7     existence because of the length of the wall. According to     8     (record) put down in Chinese literature, as many as 20 principalities and dynasties took part in reconstructing the Great Wall. If we add the length of the wall     9     (build) in each dynasty, the total comes to over 50,000 km.

The Great Wall is a symbol of Chinese civilization, It has been put down on the World Heritage List. It is     10     wonder of the world and the pride of China.

As a Chinese American, noodles have been a big part of my life since I was first able     1     (eat) solid (固体的) foods. While it isn’t served at every single meal like rice is, we will eat noodles     2     least 2 or 3 times a week. Sometimes, we will go out for the wonton noodle soup at restaurants that specialize in it, which could     3     (see) everywhere in the southeastern city of Guangzhou where I was born, and in Chinatown in Boston where we often go after     4     (move) to Massachusetts when I was very young.

Noodles are part of everyday life in Chinese culture. Besides, they also hold a lot of symbolism (象征意义) when eaten during significant     5     (event).In China, noodles are often eaten on birthdays and at     6     start of the Lunar New Year. In fact, they symbolize longevity and good     7     (healthy) for the year ahead.

The main concern is flavor and texture (口感) when you’re eating noodles. Rice noodles — my favorite— taste best when they are smooth, not too hard, yet not too soft. The sauce (调味汁) or soup     8     is ready for the noodles should have a nice balance of flavors. Slurping (吃时发出啧啧的声音) is not only allowed but also     9     (strong) encouraged, because it     10     (mean) you’re enjoying the noodles you’re eating.

With the globalization, our traditional culture is being lost,     1     can be easily found in our life. For example, our traditional culture has lost     2     (it) important role in education. More and more young people in China seem     3       (know) little about classical Chinese literature. However, western culture is becoming popular. More and more parents tend to send their children for overseas studies. Meanwhile, western festivals are becoming     4       (extreme) popular in China while some traditional festivals are being forgotten.

As for the     5       (lose) of some traditional Chinese culture, there are many reasons. For one thing, we haven't attached enough importance     6     our traditions. For another, some people think traditional culture lacks novelty (新奇) and can't keep up with the pace of modern life, while the western culture is more     7     (interest).

However, the traditional Chinese culture, after thousands of years' development, I believe， can never    8     (replace). Therefore, it's time for us Chinese to take some effective     9       (measure). First of all, it's necessary that we should have a clear and deep understanding of its value. Meanwhile, we must do     10     we can to protect and spread our traditional culture. It's convincing that we will keep our traditional culture alive with our joint efforts.
