2 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Grace’s father, Mike, couldn’t get out of bed for weeks after her mother died and when he finally did, he had lost his job. As the money ran out, the debt couldn’t be paid. It seemed like some wild beast had jumped onto her dad’s back and was killing him. So Mike sold the house and the beast on his back seemed to go with it.

Luckily, Miss Fay, who was an rich artist, was happy to give her abandoned caravan(大篷车)to them. In return, Mike had to tidy up Fay’s garden and look after her house when she was away.

Mike had once been a famous violin player. He had won competitions and been on television shows. Grace loved to watch how her father played the violin, which made her heart sing. Since her mother had died, however, the violin had stayed still and silent in its case. But now, after moving to the caravan, her father played the violin every day. He even taught Grace to play.

One day, the teacher announced that a talent scout(星探)would come to the school to look for someone to play the violin in the musical Mr Spy. Grace kept quiet because she thought she was not good enough to play for an audience. However, her friend told the teacher she had a violin and could play it.

“Get prepared for it, the talent scout will come next month,” the teacher sad. “And oh, if you are selected, the pay is good!”

After school, Grace kicked at the pebbles angrily along the way. She hated being the centre of attention. There was no way she would play the violin. No amount of money would persuade her.

As soon as she arrived at Fay’s house, Grace saw police officers outside the house. Fay and her dad were talking in low voices and they didn’t look very happy.

“What happened?” asked Grace.

“Break-in,” said her dad, “all Fay’s paintings and her painting tools have been stolen.” She looked very sad. So was Grace’s father, he kept blaming himself for not being a very good guard.

Mike and Daniel were good friends. They ran a barbershop in a town. Mike and Daniel were kind to others, so they had a good relationship with the neighbors around them. One of them was an elderly lady called Mary.

Mary’s house was located in the same street as their barbershop, a few hundred metres away. Mary lived alone and her son worked in another city. So, she usually came to the barbershop to chat with Mike and Daniel. They liked Mary very much and regarded her as their own family.

One day three years ago, Mike and Daniel noticed that Mary had not been in their shop for a long time. They both began to feel worried about her. But the other neighbors told them that Mary might have gone to see her son. That reassured them.

A few weeks later, Mary returned. The next day, she came to the barbershop. Unlike before, Mary looked sad this time. Instead of talking to Mike and Daniel, she sat silently. At that time, Mike and Daniel were busy, but they still smiled and asked Mary what had happened. Mary just laughed and asked them not to worry.

After a few minutes, they finished their work, so they began to ask Mary in detail about the specifics of the situation. Mary remained silent and just got up slowly. She came and sat down in front of Mike and said sadly, “I don’t want to cut my hair, but I have to.” Mike didn’t pay much attention to what she said and just told her to relax. Then he picked up the scissors and started to work.

At this time, Daniel noticed that Mary started to cry, so he hurriedly asked Mike to stop. They started begging Mary to tell them the truth. Eventually, Mary told them what had happened. It turned out that Mary had been diagnosed with a brain tumor (肿瘤) and needed to undergo surgery and have her hair cut. But she was unwilling to cut it and felt that being bald (秃头的) would make her look ugly.

Once upon a time, there was a small village in the heart of a big jungle on a land far away. Surrounded by mountains and in the shade of green trees, the villagers lived a happy life. All of them were used to their robotic daily tasks and none of them had the imagination or the will to try something new, except for one girl named Hannah,

Hannah was an adventurous spirit with an imagination far beyond her time. She loved to explore and would spend hours in the woods looking for new things. She loved to create stories in her head and used to imagine herself as one of her characters. One afternoon, when Hannah was on one of her adventures, she came upon an abandoned cottage. The cottage looked very old in its condition. The door was barely hanging and the wood was chipping away. Even though Hannah’s mother had strictly warned her not to go wandering in abandoned places , her curiosity got the best of her. She tip-toed (蹑手蹑脚) slowly to the door and slowly opened it and she was left shocked. In front of Hannah was a room full of books! Books shining in the dust, basking in the warm sunlight just waiting to be explored. Hannah’ s excitement was visible on her face as she jumped up and down with joy!

Hannah became excited as she realized that she had found a hidden treasure. She knew in her heart that she had to read all of them so she quickly got to work. She dusted the books, the shelves, and what was left of the furniture. Hannah swept and dusted all day long until she realized that it was dark and she had to go back to her home. But she couldn’t get herself to leave without at least reading one. So Hannah picked two books and decided to read them at her home.

She met her friends on the way home who were curious about what Hannah was carrying. In her excitement, Hannah shared everything with her friends. She was thinking that her friends will share her excitement but instead, she heard roars of laughter!

8 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

It was in the early morning of one summer holiday that I was flying to Bali, Indonesia to see volcanoes. And my best friend was waiting for my arrival there. When I got off the plane and stepped out of the airport, I was thinking how unbelievable it was to stand in front of the spectacular volcano mountain. The imaginary sights distracted me, for a moment, from my current problem.

Only when I stood by the bus station to Bali, did I realize that I had no enough cash on me. The only ATM nearby didn’t seem to have any power, and I nervously looked down at my credit card, my only lifeline. I hoped there might be a way to convince the bus driver to let me on and pay him once I reached the destination and got the cash from my friend.

When the bus door opened, I stood behind a young lady and her little girl. I started to worry, wondering what I’d do if the credit card didn’t make the cut. They boarded the bus, paid in cash and sat down in the first row. When I approached the driver and held out my credit card, he looked at me seriously and shook his head.

“I don’t have any money,” I said. I showed him my wallet to confirm that I was telling the truth. He stared back blankly and then said no. I still wanted to convince him again. I pulled up my flight information on my phone and showed it to him. I pointed to the nearby ATM and signaled that it didn’t work. This time, he looked at me and apologized to me. “I’m really sorry. Can you make way for the other passengers?”

I stood aside. “What should I do?” I hesitated. It was the first time that I had visited the city. I was unfamiliar with everything around me. I searched the locations of other ATMs in the area. They were too far away. It would take me at least two hours to get there on foot. I really didn’t want my friend to wait for me too long, but unfortunately, I had to.

9 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I was always the little girl who played with magnets on the kitchen floor. I pieced together model roller coasters and exhausted a lot of science kits. Learning from my dad as he designed robots, I formed my own ideas, including an automatic breakfast machine. At 14 years old, I applied to my high school’s Academy of Science, Engineering, and High Technology. As is unfortunately typical in engineering, female students were critically underrepresented in this academy-there were a mere twenty of us out of ninety total students. This was a tough challenge for me: as an ambitious female engineer, I needed to advocate my own talents and abilities in a field where women are often marginalized(边缘化).

Within the first month of the freshman year, we began our first project: a wooden can-crusher(压罐器).I had worked on projects with boys before, but those were nothing like this. The three of us had one month to research, design, build, and test our device-a month full of arguing and frustration. My suggestions were turned down. And I was assigned the “default(默认的)female role” of timekeeper and documentation. I wasn’t expected to be capable of contributing to anything else. We finished with a functional can-crusher, but I knew this was not how I wanted to continue as a female engineer.

By the time junior year rolled around, it was time to face the year-long Engineering Design and Development (EDD) project and state competition. When I agreed to work with two other girls, I had no idea that this would entirely change my perspective of my ability as a team member, a leader and an engineer. For this competition, we created a garage parking aidto help drivers prevent side-view mirror damage. Within our team, we created a safe space where we all valued each other’s input and carried equal responsibilities. After countless experiments and sleepless nights, we were awarded third place at EDD State, which helped me find the confidence I didn’t have before.

注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Then came the final year-long project for me, an academy senior.

10 . 阅读下面材料,   根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,   使之构成一篇完整的短文。

One day a cat appeared at our back door. My four-year-old brother Daniel and I were both surprised and quickly fell in love with the cat. All that afternoon, the three of us played together. In the evening, we begged our parents to let our new friend come inside. But Mom said, “This cat looks too clean and healthy to be homeless. He must have a home already. ”

However, the next day, the cat was still there. ”Yeah!” said Daniel. “He wants to be our cat!” It did seem so. He hung around here all day, playing with Daniel and me outside. That day, our parents decided to find his owner. They made “cat-found” leaflets (传单), with the cat’s picture and our phone number. We put up the leaflets around the neighborhood. The third day, I named him Alley, and our parents let us put some food out for him. The fourth day, to our excitement, our parents allowed us to bring him inside. Alley enjoyed staying with us.

Two weeks later, to our disappointment, a man appeared at our door holding our leaflet, Alley walked over to him and rubbed (摩擦) himself against the man’s leg. “I’m Johnson,” he   announced, picking Alley up. “I see you’ve met my only roommate. He wandered away when I was out of town. Can I offer you some money for watching him?”

“No,” Dad said. “It was a pleasure to have him as our guest.” At the door, Mr. Johnson turned back and faced us kids. Seeing our tears, he said, “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize you kids had been good friends with my cat. I only live a few blocks away. If you two would like to visit my cat.” Daniel just ran away, crying. Mr. Johnson left his phone number and went away. Over his shoulder was Alley. Alley’s unreadable green eyes looked back at me all the way down the walk. For days, we missed Alley.

Then one day, I heard Daniel in our yard shouting, “Alley is back alone! He somehow has found his way here.” I was amazed.
