1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

My dad was a cleaner in my school. When I was 12, I decided to study hard to have a life different from his.

One day when Dad asked me to play basketball with him, I just replied, “I’m busy. I want to study well so that I can become a rich man. I don’t want to be a cleaner like you, Dad!” He was shocked (震惊的), but I didn’t care and continued studying hard. Finally, I graduated from high school with honors, and decided it was time to break free from my dad and follow my dreams.

“Dad, I got a scholarship to a law school in California,” I told him. “I’ll leave in 3 days.” My dad was surprised but proud of me. As I left for the airport 3 days later, he said, “Son, wherever you go, welcome back home.” I ignored his words and flew to California.

After I graduated, I found a great job there. Later, I was made manager and earned much money. I no longer remembered my father was a cleaner. I had forgotten my dad, who was still cleaning my school. I seldom answered his calls or wrote back to him. I was busy; I still had a lot more to achieve.

With time, the more success I tasted, somehow, the lonelier I became. I felt especially lonely on my 31st birthday. I kept checking my phone, hoping someone wished me a happy birthday. But there wasn’t a single call or message. Later that evening when I returned home from my office, something in my mailbox drew my attention.

“A letter?” I whispered and saw it was from my father. He never forgot to mail me a letter on my each birthday. However, I never took the trouble to read it. “How did I ignore him?” I thought. I brought the letter home and took out his earlier letters. And I opened one. It read, “Wherever you are, I love you to the last drop of my blood. I wish you a happy life.”

2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一片完整的短文。每段大约6-8个句子,总续写词数为150左右。

“Eric! Eric! Wake up! You will be late for school today!” Eric’s mum said while pulling Eric out of bed.

“Mum, don’t worry!”Eric said as he quickly got up, put on his clothes, took his bag, and ran to the bus stop.

Recently, Eric had gotten enrolled (注册) in a new school so he knew no one there and had made no friends yet. At school, Eric longed for the bell to ring for the class break so that he could eat something. After a while, when the bell rang, Eric quickly opened his bag to take out his money to buy some food. But just then he remembered he had forgotten to take the money his mum had given him.

Not knowing what to do, he walked out of the classroom and sat on a bench (长凳) in front of the dining room. He saw a few of his classmates there, among them was Bob. He was one of the richest kids in his class but he was very unfriendly. But as Eric was new, he didn’t know much about anyone.

Eric thought he might borrow some money from Bob and return it to him the next day. So he got up and slowly went towards Bob and asked if he could borrow some money.

Bob smirked (幸灾乐祸地笑) and said,“I knew you were a loser, but I didn’t know you were a beggar too?” Bob laughed out so loud that the other kids heard and also made fun of Eric.

It was too humiliating (丢脸的) for Eric. He could not answer Bob and slowly walked back towards an empty bench. He could still hear them laughing at him in the distance. When he reached the bench, he noticed something lying near it. It was a wallet. He picked it up and recognized it as Bob’s, as he remembered Bob showing it to his friends and saying that his uncle bought it for him from the UK.

Para l: First, he thought to keep it a secret.

3 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I needed to do something in my community (社区) in order to complete the community service hours required to graduate from high school. Some of my friends had signed up to spend time at a soup kitchen, so I did, too. It seemed like a good thing to do.

I thought that we would just be passing out dinners to those in need, but I found out we would be doing everything from preparing to serving the dinner. We began preparing the food, from mixing salad dressing to separating frozen meat. Much still needed to be done before dinner was served, but already outside the building many homeless people were gathering. It wasn’t until a couple of hours later that we opened the doors and began serving dinner.

As the line of people came toward me, I got a little scared. I’d come face to face with the homeless: How should I act? How would they treat me? Would they hate me for having more than they did? While some of the people looked very friendly, some of them looked so dangerous. I didn’t have too much time to worry about it. I was assigned (分配) to serve the salad with the lady next to me. She smiled at me and said if I needed help, she’d be right there, which I found quite comforting.

I had never seen so many people wanting food. They were of all ages and nationalities. Most of them wore clothes that were torn and dirty. Some looked like they had tally given up on life, while others seemed to be making the best of the situation, smiling and joking. Some were better off than others, but they all needed a good meal and a warm place to eat. It saddened me to think of how many people there were who didn’t have a place to call home and the only food they got came from a soup kitchen.

4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

That night, I quarreled with my mother, and then rushed out of the house. While on the road, I remembered that I did not have any money in my pocket. I did not even take my cell phone with me to make a call home.

At the same time, I went through a noodle shop, and I suddenly felt very hungry. I wished for a bowl of noodles, but I had no money!

The seller saw me standing before the counter and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?”

“Oh, yes... but I don’t have money on me...” she replied. “That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man, “Come in.”

A few minutes later the owner brought me a steaming bowl of noodles. I thanked the man and started to gobblle (狼吞虎咽) up the delicious food...then I cried silently.

“What is it?” asked the man kindly.

“Nothing. I am just touched by your kindness!” I said as I wiped my tears. “Even a stranger on the street gives me a bowl of noodles, while my mother, after a quarrel, chased me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so mean and cruel!”

Hearing the words, the seller smiled “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. why were you not grateful and why did you hurt your mom? You should say sorry to your mom.“

I was really surprised after hearing that.

Why did I not think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful, and my mother has been taking care of me since I was little and I have never felt so, not even a little.

5 . 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Several years ago I had given some cash to a girl I met by chance because she needed some work done to her car. About a month later she sent me a card thanking me for helping out and repaid me, which I had never expected from her. The $ 200 she gave me was nice to have, but honestly was not needed.

About a week after I had been given this cash, I ate out. Then I noticed a homeless man sitting at a table next to me. He was taking shelter from the terrible weather we were having at the time, but was warned by the waitress that he couldn’t be there if he didn’t order anything. He asked how much a cup of coffee was, counted the few dollars he had in his pocket, and unwillingly ordered coffee so that he could stay inside.

Hearing all of this, I thought of the $ 200 cash and felt this could be someone I could help. I went up to sit beside him and told him that if he felt comfortable accepting my offer, I would buy him whatever food on the menu he wanted. He refused because he didn’t want to trouble me and put me out of money.

6 .

Does writing come hard to you? Are you discouraged to find yourself poor at writing? Nobody is born knowing how to write. Good writing habits, which help make you write on a regular basis, are necessary for you to improve your writing.

Firstly, you are supposed to read a wide range of books. It’s obvious when a writer is not well-read lack of reading will be obvious in every sentence one writes. Reading prepares you with necessary knowledge to be a good writer. What’s more, it provides you with basic skills for writing. The importance of reading cannot be stressed too much: read as much and as often as you can.

Secondly, it’s important to make a writing schedule and write daily if it is possible. Whether you write for two hours a day or fifteen minutes a day, daily writing is the key to developing good writing habits. It’s better to write for fifteen or twenty minutes every day than to sit for five or six hours to write over the weekend. However, if you can make a daily writing schedule with longer hours on your writing on weekends, then it’s much better.

One of the worst habits is never to get help from others to improve your writing. It is advised that you share your work with others. For example, you can post scene or you blog, send your writing around to a few friends, round up some readers and let them comment or your writing. That way, you’ll find your writing gradually improved.
