文章大意:本文是一篇应用文,主要介绍的是四本受欢迎的儿童读物的相关信息。

1 . Four popular children’s books

Que Cosas Dice Mi Abuela

Spanish-speaking parents will love this fun book—which was translated into “The things my grandmother says” —in which a grandmother teaches manners (规矩) to her grandchildren and their friends using traditional Spanish-language sayings. Written in the voice of a little boy talking about his regular day, this book will draw the interest of both adults and kids.

I Like Myself!

Parents won’t mind reading the story over and over to their kids because as they pass along the message that their kids are perfect just the way they are—no matter their untidy hair, or whether they are fast or slow, their kids will learn about confidence.

Dragons Love Tacos(炸玉米饼)

While books with a deep message are great, sometimes you and your child just want to read something silly to get the laughs rolling. The New York Times bestseller, Dragons Love Tacos is a great read for kids and parents as it talks about how much dragons really love tacos, but when they eat something spicy (辛辣的) you had better watch out! The book has more words than some of the other picks on our list, so this might be fit for a preschoolers and up.

The Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes

As everyone knows nothing is sweeter than small baby fingers and cute baby toes and here, from two of the most gifted picture books, readers could enjoy a different joyful world and also bring the happy feelings to everyone, everywhere, all over the world!

1. Who will choose the first book?
A.Parents who want to make their children laugh.
B.Parents who want their children to become polite.

3 . Losing weight is tough. For most people, it requires a change in diet, a change in exercise habits, and a change in attitude.     1

Set healthy goals.

If you're overweight and want to change that, the first step is deciding what your target weight is.     2

Start small.

Making major behavior modifications isn't something that happens overnight.     3     Commit to eating 5 servings of vegetables a day and exercising 2 days a week for the first week, then add a little more each week.

Track your diet and exercise.

Now it's time to start working toward that goal. The best way to stick with your diet and exercise rules is to track it.     4     Or you can do it in the old fashioned way and keep a written food and exercise journal. Find what works for you and write down what you've accomplished every day.

    5

Every month you should take a look at your goal and see what type of progress you've made toward accomplishing it. If you're not where you want to be, make minor adjustments. Try doing different exercises or cutting back on certain types of foods that you may be eating too much of.

Losing weight and keeping it off is a highly personal thing. Find what works for you and stick with it.

A.Evaluate and adjust.
B.Here's how you can accomplish all the three.
C.You might as well start with your own attitude.
D.There are plenty of Apps that allow you to do this.
E.What steps are you going to take to achieve your goal?
F.So start with 1—2 things per week and work up from there.
G.Write down your goal and set a date by which you want to accomplish that goal.

7 . A few days ago, I received a letter from my Aunt Loraine.

It was a handwritten letter thanking me for some Shanghai cookies I had sent her. Aunt Lorraine is ninety-one years old and she has wonderful manners. That is why she sent me the “thank you” letter. She also has wonderful handwriting. Her penmanship(书法)is smooth. It is a pleasure to read.

Aunt Lorraine was educated half a century ago. At that time, penmanship was considered an important skill. Now, it is the age of e-mail and social media. Few people have the time or hope to practice their penmanship or write letters by hand.

This is not good. In my view, good penmanship still counts. This is especially true in school. If you want to get good grades, keeping your writing clean and beautiful will be important. Your writing might be full of good ideas. However, terrible handwriting can turn an A into a B. Awful handwriting can get you a D!

Good penmanship has other advantages, too. Since it's a skill, it trains your brain and develops your learning abilities. It also helps you organize your thoughts. And, believe it or not, that slow process of pushing a pen along paper improves your reading, spelling and even your pronunciation of English.

Apart from all these educational advantages, good penmanship also has personal advantages. A beautifully written letter to a friend is something he or she will treasure forever.A letter that looks as if achicken bad danced across the paperwill be quickly thrown away.I have kept the letter from my Aunt Lorraine. It's a great treasure!

1. Why did Aunt Lorraine write a letter to the author?
A.To express her thanks.B.To show her wonderful manners.
C.To make herself pleased.D.To set a good example to the author.
2. According to the author, which of the following is NOT the advantage of good handwriting?
A.Getting good grades on your writing.
B.Organizing your thoughts.
C.Making your writing full of good ideas.
D.Improving your English pronunciation.
3. The underlined part in the last paragraph is used to describe ________.
A.a boring letterB.a great treasure
C.bad handwritingD.good penmanship
4. What does the author want to do by writing this article?
A.To express the importance of clean and beautiful handwriting.
B.To share her pleasure of hearing from her aunt.
C.TO talk about her experiences of practicing penmanship.
D.To encourage people to write litters by hand instead of e-mailing.

8 . Many foreigners find that one of the most interesting parts of Chinese culture is food. Foods that are normal in China like chicken feet and duck tongue, are often very strange to foreigners. In fact, some of the biggest culture shocks are the kinds of animals that are eaten.

I was once invited to a special meal in China. When I arrived at the meal, I was happy to eat everything that was given to me. I did not want to be rude. I ate a meat dish that tasted rather strange, but I still wolfed(狼吞虎咽地吃)it all down. After the meal to my great surprise, I was told that I had eaten a dog. In European countries, it is a very strange idea to eat a dog. My Chinese friends explained that the dog meat is very useful for warming the body during winter and is often eaten in the north of China.

In England we call dogs “man’s best friend”. It would be against the law to eat a dog in England. In China, it is a big shock when we hear of people eating dogs, or, as I did, end up eating them ourselves.

1. What do many foreigners think of Chinese food?
A.Interesting.B.Unusual.
C.Delicious.D.Expensive.
2. Why did the author eat up everything at the meal?
A.Because the author was hungry.
B.Because the author had eaten a dog.
C.Because the author wanted to show respect.
D.Because the author liked the food very much.
3. According to Chinese friends, eating dog meat
A.is against the law to a certain degree
B.is quite popular in the south of China
C.can make people feel warm in cold weather
D.can make people get used to living with dogs
4. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Man’s Best FriendB.Living in England
C.A Culture ShockD.Chinese Dog Meal

10 . For as long as I can remember I have wanted to travel to Australia. As a little girl, I thought of the country as a faraway place where kangaroos wandered freely and things were a bit different from my home state of New Jersey.Anxious to spend a semester in Australia, my home college,Drew University, authorized(批准)me to do so.

The long flight to this far off country was definitely worth the experience that I had there.Although Macquarie University and Dunmore Lang College were different from my home university, those differences proved to help make my experience one I will never forget. With about 250 people living in Dunmore Lang College, both international students and Australians, the building provides a family atmosphere.Other Americans that stayed at MUC,apartments on campus that house mainly Americans, used to joke that we had “family dinners”.This was because everyone seemed to come down to dinner around the same time and to use that time to catch up with each other, make plans, and get to know one another.

The people that I met were amazing people. It was:amazing how well we all got to know one another in such a short period of time. This trip lived up to the high expectations that I had for it.I can think of no better ways to spend time in Australia than by going to school there on the AIFS program.

There is easy access to Sydney from Macquarie University by public transportation.Sydney itself is a great:city with amazing night life and plenty to do during the day.Although technically your main purpose is to study:while abroad, the teachers and staff are very understanding of the fact that you wish to travel and explore the country. Traveling is the main way you are going to get a sense of the Australia culture.

3. How did the author think of her experience in Australia?
A.It hardly lived up to her earlier expectation.
