Last Saturday, our class paid visit to the Welfare Centre for children in our city. On our arrival, we donated some gifts to the kids, that made them very pleasing. Then we did what we could to help them. Some swept and tidied our rooms. Some play games with them. And others told interesting story to them. The day passed quickly after we knew it.

Honestly speaking, though tired, we were much happier than ever that day. The reason is that when we help with others, we also get something more importantly. Therefore, show your love and care, or our society will be more beautiful and more harmonious.

5 . In south Africa’s Limpopo province, a baobab tree (猴面包树) once grew so large and stood so strong that its human neighbors decided to build a pub inside the living tree’s thousand-year-old hollow trunk(树干). For 20 years, “The Big Baobab Pub” attracted tourists all over the world. But in August 2016, one of “the walls” broke. Eight months later, another huge piece broke, too. Now, five of the giant stems have collapsed and died, leaving only half of the tree standing.

Though it could sound like a result of human visitation, it's part of an alarming trend: many of the oldest, largest baobab trees in Africa have died within the last 12 years.

Stephan Woodbourne, an African scientist, said: “Of the oldest trees that we’ve looked at in Southern Africa, the three trees that are older than 2,000 years have all died in the past 10 years. Of the 11 trees that are 1,000 to 2,000 years old, six of them have died.”

A report published in the journal Nature Plants claims scores of the ancient baobab trees, some of which are up to 3,000 years old, are now dying because of rising global temperatures.

Researchers believe it is impossible that such a high number of old baobab trees die in such a short time due to natural causes. They think it may be associated with huge change of climate conditions that affect southern Africa in particular.

Cut off social media ties

We love Facebook or Twitter to communicate with friends and relations.    4    And turn off app and email information at some other time in any other places, so you aren’t attracted by them. Pile up your phones

Today, it seems nearly impossible to put your phone down for 60 minutes. However, whether dining at home or out on the town, stick to (坚持) a no-device policy.    5    Even better, you can also have a waiter place them out of site, so no one can break the policy.

9 . Many facts suggest that children are overweight and the situation is getting worse, according to the doctors. I feel there are a number of reasons for this.

Some people blame the fact that we are surrounded by shops selling unhealthy, fatty foods, such as fried chicken and ice cream, at low prices. This has turned out a whole generation of grown-ups who seldom cook a meal for themselves. If there were fewer of these restaurants, then probably children would buy less take-away food.

There is another argument that blames parents for allowing their children to become overweight. I agree with this, because good eating habits begin early in life, long before children start to visit fast food shops. If children are given fried chicken and chocolate rather than healthy food, or are always allowed to choose what they eat, they will go for sweet and salty foods every time, and this will carry on throughout their lives.

There is a third reason for this situation. Children these days take very little exercise. They do not walk to school. When they get home, they sit in front of the television or their computers and play computer games. Not only is this an unhealthy pastime (消遣), it also gives them time to eat more unhealthy food. What they need is to go outside and play active games or sports.

The above are the main reasons for this problem, and therefore we have to encourage young people to be more active, as well as steering them away from fast food shops and bad eating habits.

1. According to the text, what kind of children may eat more unhealthy food?
A.Those who often do sportsB.Those who often walk to school
C.Those who often watch televisionD.Those who often have meals at home
2. The author thinks that children are becoming overweight because ________.
A.their parents often cook meals for them
B.they are too busy to go out and play
C.they can't choose what to eat
D.there are too many fast food shops around
3. What does the underlined word "steering" in the last sentence most probably means?
A.movingB.forcing.
C.drivingD.guiding.
4. The main purpose of the text is to ________.
A.tell a storyB.provide facts
C.give adviceD.compare opinions
