As freshman in senior high school, I am sometimes confusing and anxious. Not all subjects are suit for me and I prefer some subjects for the others. For example, I can speak English fluent while I can’t improve my maths even if I put extra efforts into it. Though attracting to literature, but I can’t focus my attention on chemistry classes. Beside, I am so busy to sign up for extra-curricular activities. Can you give me some advices?

Today I will introduce some new teachers in our class. Mrs Li is my English teacher. My first     1    (impress) of her was that she       2     (be) nervous and shy. But now, I find she’s kind, teaches     3    (careful), and explains grammar clearly. I’ve always hated making mistakes or       4    (pronounce) a word incorrectly when I speak English, but when I make mistakes, she just smiles,     5     makes me feel easy. It’s appealing to students at home and abroad because its high academic level and rich cultural diversity. So it had been my ideal university, for that I have worked hard for many years. To be frank, study for a degree in a different country isn’t easy. You had better to equip yourself with some basic Chinese language skills apart from some important knowledges about Chinese customs.Of course my wonderful academic ability is a must as well. 7 . The State of Colorado has four of the best parks out of the 58 national parks in the United States. The parks have some of the best scenery of all the national parks.

Black Canyon (峡谷) of Gunnison National Park

This park offers the most breathtaking views from up in the mountains into the canvons below. While exploring the canyons, you will find that the walls drop nearly straight down into the narrow valleys of snake -like of rivers below. Visitors are offered more than 100 camping sites, and a lot of bird species and many animals are native to the area.

Rocky Mountain National Park

It is the only national park in the north central region in the state of Colorado. Elevations in this park are anywhere from 8000 feet to 14,259 feet at the top of Longs Peak. While traveling throughout this park you will notice two very different climates because of the difference the upper peaks of the Rocky Mountains make. You can enjoy 359 miles of hiking trails, a lot of places for camping, horse-back riding and beautiful scenery.

Mesa Verde National Park

This is probably the most interesting national park, offering a fascinating trip back in time to 600 AD up to 1300 AD. This park was declared a protected national park in-1906 because of the cliffdwellings(住所)that were found throughout the area, which were once-home to American Indians. Many of these dwellings can be walked through, while you imagine what each room may have been used for so many years ago

Great Sand Dunes (沙丘) National Park

The Great Sand dunes National Park lies in south central Colorado about 127 miles from Pueblo. This park has the tallest sand dunes in all of North America and has trails for hiking. The natural sandy beaches around the small rivers and lakes are good for swimmers.

8 . In a cold winter, a couple had to move out of their big house because of bankruptcy (破产). The husband worked day and night but with no care of his wife. So she thought, “He doesn’t love me anymore ; he just thinks about his work.”

One day, she wanted to take a shower, but her husband stopped her at the door. “Let me take it first, OK?” “Why not let me take it first?” she asked. “I’m tired, dear. You take it later, OK?” She was very sad. On a rainy day, she found nothing to do and turned on his computer. After a few minutes, her eyes were full of tears...it was his diary: Today, I was quite sad. She asked me why I was always taking the shower first, and I said I was tired. She was unhappy. I wasn’t as rich as before! We moved to the small house and it was very cold. I found that if one person took the shower first, the bathroom could get a little warmer. So I always rushed to the bathroom first. When she took the shower, the bathroom could get warmer, at least 1°C. I can’t give her more, but at least I can give her 1°C love.

10 . What do former American president Bill Clinton and rock musician Pete Townshend have in common? Both men have hearing damage from exposure to loud music, and both now wear hearing aids as a consequence. As a teenager, Clintonplayed saxophone (萨克斯管) in a band. Townshend, who has the more severe hearing loss, was a guitarist for a band called the Who. He is one of the first rock musicians to call the public’s attention to the problem of hearing loss from exposure to loud music.

Temporary (暂时的) hearing loss can happen after only 15 minutes of listening to loud music. One early warning sign is when your ears begin to feel warm while you listen to music at a rock concert or through headphones. One later is that an unusual sound or a ringing is sometimes produced in your head after the concert.

“What happens is that the hair cells in the inner ear are damaged, but they’re not dead,” says a physician and ear specialist Dr. Sam Levine. According to Dr. Levine, if you avoid further exposure to loud noise, it’s possible to repair the cells somewhat. However, he adds, “Eventually, over a long period of time, hair cells are permanently damaged.” And this is no small problem.

What sound level is dangerous? According to Dr. Levine, regular exposure to noise above 85 decibels (分贝) is considered dangerous. The chart below offers a comparison of decibel levels to certain sounds. Here’s another measurement you can use. If you’re at a rock concert and the music is so loud that you have to shout to make yourself heard, you’ re at risk for hearing loss. That’s when wearing protective devices such as earplugs becomes critical.

Continued exposure to loud music and the failure to wear earplugs can lead to deafness, according to Dr. Levine. He states, “There’s no cure for hearing loss. Your ears are trying to tell you something. That ringing is the scream of your hair cells dying. Each time that happens, more and more damage is done.”
