文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要介绍了中国人在三伏天贴三伏贴,并在不同的时间吃不同的食物的风俗习惯。

1 . In the Chinese lunar calendar, san fu refers to the three 10-day periods that are said to be the hottest days of the year, which are called tou fu, zhong fu and mo fu. San fu is usually between mid-July and mid-August.

When san fu is mentioned, people can’t stop thinking of san futie, which is a bandage(绷带) made of traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Those who have experienced traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) believe that receiving san futie during the hottest summer days is effective for coughs. The treatment is based on the TCM principle of yin and yang, which believes the balance of both elements(要素) in the body is important for good health. San futie contains a paste of herbs that are “hot” in nature.

Tou fu is the first stage of san fu. When the hot days come, people tend to lose their appetites. As the weather in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province, is hot with heavy rainfall in summer people there eat chicken especially a rooster during tou fu. They believe that the rooster is “yang” and can clear the damp(湿气). There is an old saying that goes “A rooster at the start of san fu, a healthy body the whole year.” Another favourite food during this stage is jiaozi, which is thought to refresh people’s feelings toward food. In fact, jiaozi is an all-time classic with 2,000 years of history.

The second stage of san fu is called zhong fu, which traditionally is a time for eating noodles because it is believed to help people sweat and remove internal heat.

When mo fu or the third fu arrives, it is still very hot at noon and the sun is very strong. People feel uncomfortable, so they call this period “Autumn Tiger”. During mo fu, people, especially those living in North China, customarily eat Chinese egg pancakes.

During san fu time when yang energy is at its prime, it’s also beneficial to have food which is “cold” in nature, like watermelon and cucumber, according to Chinese dietary therapy.

1. How does san futie work to treat coughs?
A.By using a kind of unique bandage.
B.By using materials for sweating.
C.By stopping the heat from coming into the body.
D.By keeping the balance of yin and yang.

A.San fu is a good time to sell roosters.
B.Meat from a rooster is delicious.
C.Eating roosters in San fu is good for health.
D.People who like eating can avoid catching a cold.
3. Why do Chinese people eat noodles in zhong fu?
A.To show the hope for a long life.B.To let the heat in the body out.

4. What’s the best title of the text?

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了四种保持写日记这一好习惯的方法。

4 . How to Develop a Habit of Keeping a Diary

Diaries are wonderful ways that allow you to express your emotions or ideas, and reflect (沉思) on daily life in a safe private space.    1    Here are some tips to help you develop a habit of keeping a diary.

Brainstorming (集思广益) topics. Not sure what to write about? You can choose any event of your day that impresses you deeply. For example, you could write about the English exam you took at school that day. Are you feeling good about the exam?    2    Besides, you can also write down inspiring words from a famous person, your favorite book or movie and what they mean to you.

Choose an exact time each day to write in your diary.    3    Others simply forget to write. Choosing an exact time each day for diary writing may help. For example, you might choose to write in your diary every night right before bed. Don’t set an unrealistic schedule for yourself. If writing every day seems out of reach, plan on keeping a diary 3 times a week instead.

4     You don’t have to spend much time every day writing in your diary. 10-15 minutes every time is enough when you’re just starting out. For example, you could write a few key points in your diary when you just try writing. Remember that keeping a diary is just an expression, not an unpleasant task, so go easy on yourself.

Use illustrations (插图)if you prefer drawing to writing. Some people find it easier to express their thoughts and emotions through drawing rather than writing. Quick drawings may also help you write down something that you want to remember but don’t have time to write about.     5

A.W rite down your feelings at the time.
B.Keep your writing time short in the beginning.
C.However, you will be tired of it soon in that way.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文,文章介绍了通过听音乐提高英语技巧的几种方法。

6 . Music is one of the most interesting art forms on earth.     1     But did you know it is also a great way to learn English? We thought we’d take some time out to explore exactly how beneficial music is to your language development skills. Below is a list of all the ways that listening to music can improve your English skills.

Strengthen your vocabulary and listening skills.

When listening to a song, you’ll pick up new words that you haven’t heard before.     2     Those songs are full of new vocabulary and phrases that are difficult to forget. For example, listening to a song like “Friday, I’m in Love” by the Cure is a great way to memorize the days of the week! This exercise will also develop your listening skills. Music can help your brain be more receptive to hearing English.

Perfect your pronunciation. Once you have learned the lyrics, you can practice your pronunciation and explore different accents.     3     Singing will help you to learn the correct pronunciation of the words and will also help you remind easily the new vocabulary you have learned.

Catch obvious grammar mistakes. If you have a good eye for mistakes, you can find many grammar “exceptions” songwriters usually use. Sometimes singers need to adapt the lyrics to the rhythm of the song. Therefore, they take some creative liberties and use grammatical mistakes on purpose. It’s not funny when you catch them.     4

5     Music can also increase your cultural understanding. Many songs talk about great stories and can teach you a lot about love, life, tradition, history, philosophy, literature, and more. You can find lots of great examples of a storytelling song on the Internet.

A.Discover more about English culture.
B.Remembering the lyrics is very helpful.
C.We enjoy music because it makes us feel great.
D.Those accents depend on the areas the singers come from.
E.Write some storytelling songs to improve your English skills.
F.Listening to a new song per week can help you learn 52 songs a year.
G.It’s very helpful to find these mistakes as a way to practice your English.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者如何在家庭中过零浪费的生活方式。

9 . Live with roommates? Have friends and family around you? Chances are that if you’re looking to live a more sustainable lifestyle, not everyone around you will be ready to jump on that bandwagon.

I experienced this when I started switching to a zero waste lifestyle five years ago, as I was living with my parents, and I continue to experience this with my husband, as he is not completely zero waste like me. I’ve learned a few things along the way though, which I hope you’ll find encouraging if you’re doing your best to figure out how you can make the change in a not-always-supportive household.

Zero waste was a radical lifestyle movement a few years back. I remember showing my parents a video of Bea Johnson, sharing how cool I thought it would be to buy groceries with jars, and have so little trash! A few days later, I came back with my first jars of zero waste groceries, and my dad commented on how silly it was for me to carry jars everywhere. It came off as a bit discouraging.

Yet as the months of reducing waste continued, I did what I could that was within my own reach. I had my own bedroom, so I worked on removing things I didn’t need. Since I had my own toiletries (洗漱用品), I was able to start personalising my routine to be more sustainable. I also offered to cook every so often, so I portioned out a bit of the cupboard for my own zero waste groceries. Perhaps your household won’t entirely make the switch, but you may have some control over your own personal spaces to make the changes you desire.

As you make your lifestyle changes, you may find yourself wanting to speak up for yourself if others comment on what you’re doing, which can turn itself into a whole household debate. If you have individuals who are not on board, your words probably won’t do much and can often leave you feeling more discouraged.

So here is my advice: Lead by action.

1. What do the underlined words “jump on that bandwagon” mean in the first paragraph?
A.Share an apartment with you.B.Join you in what you’re doing.
C.Transform your way of living.D.Help you to make the decision.
2. What was the attitude of the author’s father toward buying groceries with jars?
A.He disapproved of it.B.He was favorable to it.
C.He was tolerant of it.D.He didn’t care about it.
3. What can we infer about the author?
A.She is quite good at cooking.B.She respects others’ privacy.
C.She enjoys being a housewife.D.She is a determined person.
4. What is the text mainly about?
A.How to get on well with other family members.
B.How to have one’s own personal space at home.
C.How to live a zero waste lifestyle in a household.
D.How to control the budget when buying groceries.
