1 . True love is happiness. True love is sharing your world with your dearest. How do you turn friendship into love? Is there a fine line between the two?     1

Be considerate and thoughtful towards the person.

Whatever the situation is, put yourself in your friends’ shoes. If they are in trouble, help them out.    2     If they are sad, be a shoulder to cry on. Nobody doesn’t like to be close friends with a considerate and thoughtful person.

    3

If you’re really good friends with some people, go into town to catch a coffee, invite them on walks, or just invite them to your house for a bit of a catch-up. The possibilities are endless. Just make sure you know them well enough to feel comfortable having deep conversations and sharing your world with them. You don’t want them to be creeped out (爬出) with your sudden eagerness and interest.

Help them out once in a while.

4     If they’re having a bit of crisis in work, let them believe in you. If they’re having problems with family and friends, give good and sensible advice. The bottom line is to be caring.

Be caring and friendly.

Try not to have any arguments, even though they can easily happen. Don’t ever cheat and always look your best for them.    5

A.Make eye contacts with them.
B.Spend plenty of time with them.
C.If they are happy, be happy with them.
D.Respect them and be friendly to them.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章叙述了曾经年少由父母带着出门旅游的我,长大后,开始带父母出去旅游的故事。

2 . Most of us travel with our parents as children and teenagers. For some of us, during the travel, our parents are our inspiration. These trips are normally full of rental cars, beaches, and hamburgers. My family would go to Galiano island every summer, and we did a week in Mexico in 1995, and then we did two different trips to Anaheim to experience the magic of Disney, Universal, and Knott’s Berry Farm.

But all of these are childhood experiences and memories. I didn’t really truly travel with my parents until I was an adult when I got the chance to travel with mom and dad.

I was in New Zealand for a study abroad, and invited my parents to come down for a 2-week road trip around the North Island and then 10 days in Fiji. Why not? They said, as if this was something they were invited to do every day. I didn’t really plan anything, but my mom had done some reading and I knew some highlights after living in New Zealand for 5 months.

I had booked a hotel for their first night in Auckland. The only other preparation I had done was to book a rental car. My parents immediately reached an agreement that I should be the driver, for the whole two weeks. The main reason for this, understandably, was that neither of them had ever been in a country where you drive on the left hand side of the road and on the right hand side of the car. This led to me driving my parents around the entire North Island of New Zealand for 2 weeks! But still, everybody had jobs. Dad had the maps, and mom had the guidebook, and I just took them where they told me to go.

Sometimes, I was asked who I was traveling with. When I said “my parents”, the response was, “Ohhh, older people.” Actually, I have some tips on travelling with parents happily.

1. Which can replace the underlined word “inspiration” in Para. 1?
A.Cooks.B.Guides.C.Drivers.D.Translators.
2. Why did the parents let the writer drive the car in New Zealand?
A.They were not used to the driving rules.
B.They were afraid of the mountain roads.
C.They were too old to drive for a long time.
D.They were not familiar with the brand of the car.
3. What is the best title of the text?
A.Drive on the Way.B.Travel with Parents.
C.Enjoy New Zealand.D.Recall the Childhood.
4. What will the writer share next?
A.The argument with parents.B.The memory in Fiji as a child.
C.The scenery during the road trip.D.The advice on outing with parents.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了牢固的亲子关系可以帮助青少年顺利度过叛逆期,并提出一些可以为青少年和父母创造积极体验的建议。

3 . Raising teenagers can be both difficult and rewarding(有回报的). They are becoming young adults. Almost all teenagers will have some behavioral outbursts(爆发) with their families during this period of life.     1     Here are some ideas that may create positive(积极的) experiences for teens and parents.

Have meals together. Mealtime is when we check in with each other.     2     Eating meals together offers a way for parents and kids to share what is on their minds. It brings families closer by creating trust and understanding to help guide children through the challenges of the teen years.

3     As teens develop their own sense of independence, it gets harder to find time to talk. Talk in the car together, when doing dishes together, or any time you have a chance. Remember that no matter how big their problems seem, what most teens want is love and support. Help them connect with their families and communities. During these years, help teens learn that their words and actions mater.     4     Others may find connection through spiritual communities or from having more responsibilities at home. Connecting with families and communities also helps keep teens safe from riskier activity.

Find time to have fun together! What do you both enjoy? Playing chess? Going to the ballet? Volunteering in your community? Take time to have fun and enjoy each other’s company. No one wants the attention of people they love to be focused only on what not to do. This is true for teenagers, too.     5

A.Talk with your teen.
B.Never try to control your child.
C.Parents have a role in keeping their teens safe.
D.Relaxing together helps them feel loved and valued.
E.This can be hard to do with busy schedules, but it is important.
F.Some teens learn this by playing in music bands or team sports.
G.But strong relationships can help teens and their parents through hard times.

文章大意:这是一篇议论文。主要讨论了父母对孩子的真正责任。

4 . Parents do not owe (欠) their children a college education, if they can afford it, they can certainly send them to a good university. But they needn’t feel guilty if they can’t. When children grow up and want to get married, their parents do not owe them an apartment. They do not have the duty to look after their grandchildren, either. If they want to do it, it must be considered a favor, not an obligation.

Do parents owe their children anything? Yes, they owe them a great deal.

One of their obligations is to give their children a sense of personal worth. Children who are always made to feel stupid and unworthy, constantly compared with brighter brothers, sisters, or cousins will become so unsure, so afraid of failing that they won’t try at all. Of course, they should be properly corrected when they do wrong, but it’s often better to let children learn from their mistakes by themselves in time. All their parents should do is to trust them, respect them, understand them and give them chances to try and fail. They must learn to stand failure. When criticisms (批评) are really needed, they should be balanced with a smile and a kiss. That is the way children learn.

Parents owe their children a set of solid values around which to build their lives. This means teaching them to respect the rights and opinions of others. Also, it means being respectful to elders, to teachers, and to the law. The best way to teach such values is by deed. A child who is lied to will lie. A child who sees no laughter and no love in the home will have difficulty laughing and loving.

No child asks to be born. If you bring a life into the world, you owe the child something.

1. What does the underlined word “obligation” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.DutyB.BurdenC.ExcuseD.Debt
2. According to this passage, what should parents do for their children?
A.Offer help but needn’t feel guilty if they can’t.B.Look after their grandchildren for their kids.
C.Buy their kids a house.D.Send their children to the university.
3. In the author’s opinion, when the kids make mistakes, what are parents supposed to do?
A.Blame them and tell them not to do that again.
B.Give them chances to learn from their mistakes.
C.Compare them with brighter brothers or sisters.
D.Correct their mistakes directly.
4. What does the author mainly talk about in this passage?
A.The reason why children feel stupid and unworthy.
B.How to teach children correctly.
C.The real duties that parents have to their kids.
D.The reason why parents owe their children something.

文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要介绍了一项关于亲子心理健康的研究。

5 . The mental health of children is connected to their parents’ mental health. A recent study asked parents to report on their children’s mental and physical (身体的) health as well as their own mental health. One in 14 children aged 0~17 years had a parent who reported poor mental health, and those children were more likely to have poor general health and a mental or developmental disability.

Being mentally healthy during childhood includes reaching developmental milestones, learning healthy social skills and how to solve problems. Mentally healthy children are more likely to have a happy life and are more likely to work well at home, in school, and in their communities.

A child’s healthy development depends on their parents who serve as their first sources(来源) of support in becoming independent and leading healthy and successful lives.

The mental health of parents and children is connected in many ways. Parents who have their own mental health challenges, such as dealing with anxiety (fear or worry), may have more difficulty providing care for their children compared to parents who describe their mental health as good. Caring for children can create challenges for parents, particularly if they lack (缺乏) support, which can have a negative effect on a parent’s mental health. Parents and children may also experience shared risks, such as living in unsafe environments, and the like.

Fathers are important for improving children’s mental health, although they are not as often included in research studies as mothers. The recent study looked at fathers and found similar connections between their mental health and their children’s general and mental health as for mothers. Fathers and mothers need support, which, in turn, can help them support their children’s mental health.

1. What does the study mainly focus on?
A.Some useful social skills.B.Children’s future life.
C.Parent-child mental health.D.Community’s influence.
2. Which is a challenge for parents according to the text?
A.Raising kids without support.B.Living in a strange place.
C.Sharing a common interest.D.Communicating with each other.
3. What can we know about fathers from the last paragraph?
A.They are often included in studies.B.They play a more important part.
C.They seldom bear the responsibility.D.They can influence children’s health.
4. Where can the text be found?
A.In a diary.B.In a book review.
C.In a magazine.D.In a children’s story.

6 . My father was attached to gardening by birth. One of my earliest memories is following Dad barefoot around in the garden with both hands blackened from digging (挖) in the soil. The garden is a wonderland full of possibilities.

As Dad grew older, he still loved gardening. Even when he was diagnosed with cancer, he still planted all sorts of plants. Sometimes, I would come over to visit. and we would walk together in the garden. But then something changed. Like the weeds that took over his garden, the cancer grew rapidly in Dad. I stayed with Dad twenty-four hours a day and I found myself in all kinds of uncomfortable situations with Dad until I promised to look after the garden.

Though I had heard the words of the doctor, what really made me believe that Dad was dying was the state of his garden. That year, he only planted tomatoes. Too tired to weed them, he just tied them with strong strings (绳子) to the fence and let them be. It made me sad to see them ignored, so I would come over and water them once in a while, and remove the weeds. I still remember the day I picked the last tomato from the vine (藤). That day was one of the saddest I had ever experienced in my life.

Three years ago, I decided to plant my own garden. I decided I would start out with a few tomatoes. That morning when I moved to the garden, something caught the corner of my eyes and I had to smile. It was my eight-year-old son Nathan, standing barefoot in the soil, happily playing in the soil.

7 . As a child, there was nothing I liked better than Sunday afternoons at my grandfather’s farm in western Pennsylvania. Surrounded by miles of winding stone walls, the house and field provided endless hours of fun for a city kid like me.

Since my first visit to the farm, I had wanted more than anything to be allowed to climb the stone walls surrounding the houses. My parents would never agree because the walls were so old that some stones were loose and falling. However, my idea to climb across those walls grew so strong that finally I had all my courage to enter the living room, where the adults had gathered after Sunday dinner.

“I want to climb the stone walls.” I said. “Heavens, no! You’ll hurt yourself!” The response was just as I’d expected. Many years have passed since then, and today I host the television program Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, seen by millions of children throughout America. 8 . The men of influence in our lives are our fathers, brothers, grandfathers, uncles, and friends and they play an important role in our lives. They lead by example, teaching us how to move physically through our world, how to be strong in the face of adversity, how to be wise, and how to provide for ourselves and our families.

My grandfather taught me the value of being trusted. My father-in-law influenced my life in a different way. He was quiet, loving and a man of power. When he spoke, I listened, as he did not speak unless he had something to say.

My husband has also taught me to adapt with him to the ever-changing reality of his journey with illness, and he has met each one with courage and dignity. 文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者在祖父的帮助下,第一次学习骑自行车的经历。

9 . I remember the day when I first learned to ride a bike. It was a frightening, yet fun experience. My grandfather was the one who taught me and he helped me when I got hurt. The first time I got on a bike, I had no idea what I was doing, and just about everything went wrong. My grandfather told me to just put my feet on the pedals (脚蹬子) and start cycling. He also told me he would hold onto the back of the bike the whole time, yet he didn’t.

As soon as I started trying to balance myself, he let the bike go. I happened to look back just then. I was scared to death that I was going to fall and hurt myself. When I was scared, my mind went blank from cycling, and I just wanted to get off. I forgot how to use the brakes (车闸) and fell right off the bike. My grandfather kept encouraging me to get up and try again, and after about 15 minutes, I finally stopped crying, got up and tried again.

As soon as I started riding again, my pants got caught in the chain, and I fell flat on my face and hit my nose. My grandfather decided to call it a day and try again the next morning. The next morning I woke up brightly and early, and was very eager to try to ride my bike. My nose felt better, so I wasn’t that afraid of falling anymore.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述作者祖父去世了,作者对祖父的回忆,作者从祖父身上学到了宝贵的东西。

10 . Yesterday we said goodbye to my grandfather. He was 96 years old and he was my last grandparent.

It has been a while since I saw my grandpa in person. I think he only met my youngest Lilly once. It kind of pains me to think that I deprived(剥夺)my children of the chance to know their only great-grandparent. But I didn’t want them to know or remember a very old man, incapable of getting down on his knees to play with them, and laughing with them because he can’t hear what they’re saying. That’s not the grandfather I know.

My grandfather never stopped. He was an early-adopter to have a laptop-type-device long before Apple was a houschold word and he was programming video games for grandkids to play before most people knew what programming was. He kept physically fit every day of his life. In his later years, he kept busy playing tennis, ballroom dancing, swimming, bicycling. In the end, he didn’t lose a battle to any disease. His body simply could not go on anymore.

I feel extremely thankful to have had the opportunity to know my grandfather. Intentional or not, he taught me many lessons. My grandfather taught me to waterski when I was 5 years old and he taught me how to surf about a decade after that. Whenever I thought it’s too late for me to study a language or get better at piano, he made it clear that it’s only my fear holding me back, not age.

These lessons make life meaningful to me. I prefer to think of them as lessons for living a positive life that leaves a positive impression on me. That is something I will strive to do. Thanks to my grandfather, I have a pretty good blueprint to follow. So I guess the best thing I can offer my children to feel connected to that man is the lessons I learned from him.

1. Why did the author seldom take kids to their disabled great-grandfather?
A.To promote the kids’ independence.
B.To keep the old man living a quiet life.
C.To prevent the kids from being frightened.
D.To avoid the kids having a bad impression of him.
2. How could the author’s grandfather keep fit?
A.By eating apples everyday.B.By playing with little kids.
C.By living a simple life.D.By keeping exercising.
3. What can we infer about the author’s grandfather from paragraph 4?
A.He was a surfing instructor.B.He was very encouraging.
C.He did everything with an intention.D.He studied a new language in his old age.
4. What is the best title of the text?
A.Memories of My GrandfatherB.Winning a Battle to Disease
C.Connecting the GenerationsD.Impression of My Childhood
