1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Jenny was the only child in her family. She had a quarrel (吵架) with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother. Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat. She stood beside a stand (货摊) for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she gave a sigh and had to leave.

The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?”

“Oh, yes, but I don’t have money on me.” she replied.

“That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man, “Come in.”

The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently.

“What is it?” asked the man kindly.

“Nothing. Actually, I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears. “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!”

Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you remember the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?”

Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock: she remembered her mother’s familiar face and weathered hands. “Why didn’t I think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful. Why haven’t I thanked my mum for what she has done for me?”

On the way home. Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.

2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I always love going to school as I can meet my friends and learn from my teachers. Everyone has an unforgettable moment in their school life and mine was in junior middle school.

That day started as usual. I woke up, got ready and went to school, where I first met my friends and then we were required to gather for the daily get-together. After that, we went to our respective classes. I went to my classroom as well and settled down as usual, greeting my classmates and waiting for the teacher to arrive.

It was a chemistry class and the teacher asked us to go to the laboratory to conduct a long-anticipated experiment. I took my stuff and was ready to leave the classroom when I felt sharp pain in my stomach. I sat down for a while, with hands rubbing my stomach. I was waiting for the pain to go off by itself. However, it was in vain. The pain still remained. Unfortunately, all of my friends had gone except the class monitor, the one I had never thought to make friends with.

But anyway, I called him and informed him of my condition, asking him to help me contact my parents. Noticing my trembling voice and begging eyesight, he agreed instantly and went to contact my parents without any hesitation.

On his departure, I realized that things were getting worse. Beads of sweat dropping off my paleface, I had to lean against the desk to ease the severe pain without realizing I suddenly vomited (呕吐). Everything around me was in a total mess, including myself. At that point, I thought my life was over and was scared of all the mean words to be said by my classmates and schoolmates. At that embarrassing moment, the class monitor came back. Obviously, he knew my dilemma. I was frozen with pain on the spot, maybe awkwardness, to be accurate.

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

My mom only had one eye. I hated her. She was such an embarrassment.

She ran a small shop at a flea market, and collected old clothes and some other things to sell for the money we needed. Once during elementary school, it was field day, and my mom came. I was so embarrassed and wondered how could she do this to me? I threw her a hateful look and ignored her. The next day at school, my schoolmates asked me, “your mom only has one eye?” and taunted me.

I was so angry with my mom and wished that she would just disappear from this world. So l said to my mom, “Why don’t you have the other eye?! If you’re only gonna make me a laughing stock!” My mom did not respond, I guess I felt a little bad, but at the same time, I felt so good to have had said what I wanted to say. Maybe it was because I was full of anger then and there, I didn’t think that I had hurt her feelings very badly.

For the words I had said to her earlier, there was something pinching at me in the corner of my heart. Even so, I hated my one-eyed mom and our desperate poverty. I told myself that I would become successful in the near future and get out of that house for good, so I studied very hard. Later I got accepted by the Seoul University, I left my mother and came to Seoul to study. Then I got married there.

I bought a house of my own. Then I had kids, too. Now I am living happily as a successful man. I enjoy the life in Seoul because it’s a place that doesn’t remind me of my mom past. This kind of happiness was getting bigger and bigger, until one day someone knocked at my door. It was my mom! And still with her one eye! It felt as if the whole sky was falling apart on me. My little girl ran away, scared of my mom’s eye.

For Jonathan, this car symbolized his pride. It was his first love which was passed on from his father. But for Brittany, it was a shame whenever her dad drove her to school in that car.

I wanted to go to a party. Who wouldn’t? Especially as this was no ordinary party. It was a beach party. It had been almost the only thing my friends had been talking about for the last couple of weeks. But there was a problem…and a big problem. My mom had said no. I was desperate, and the more desperately I asked, the more firmly my mother said no. I begged that everyone was going. However, my mother replied that she didn’t care who was going and that I was not going. I was disappointed. I was heartbroken. This was my best friend’s party.

Sunday dinner came around and my grandmother joined the family for the meal. Gran noticed how unhappy I had been looking during the meal but didn’t say a thing. It was my turn to wash up and Gran asked me there as on while the rest of the family shifted into the living room to watch TV.

I said sadly to Gran that my mom wouldn’t let me go to my best friend’s party. Gran asked if my mom had explained why. I replied no. Gran said that I should put myself in my mom’s position for a moment and consider what objections I would have if I were my mom.

After thinking for a moment or two, I told her that maybe my mom didn’t trust us or thought we would get into trouble at the beach party. I also suggested that maybe she was worried we would drown, but added that we all knew how to swim and look after ourselves.

Gran asked if there would be any adults at the party. I said no and added that who wanted their parents hanging around when trying to have fun. Gran suggested that my mother might just be concerned and didn’t want anything to happen to me. I objected that nothing would happen. “Maybe you’re right,” said Gran, “but may be Mom’s worried in case it could.”

Grandma tried to straighten out her fingers.“You know, Ann, I think I am done knitting.” she said.“My fingers just won’t do what I tell them any more.”

I looked at her hands. When I was little, she had taught me how to sew dresses for my dolls and how to embroider (刺绣) the faces of my dolls on the dresses.

But now she can hardly bend her fingers. The doctor said she should keep her hands warm.I made her cups of tea to hold and moved her chair closer to the fire. But it didn’t work.

I wasn’t used to seeing her hands so still. When I came downstairs, her quiet hands made even her voice stay still.I missed her voice more than ever.

I tried to help her find her voice.“Grandma, tell me about when you were a little girl,” I begged, knowing she loved to tell stories.“Tell me about Peti and Zoe.” Peti and Zoe were her brother and sister.“That was so long ago, Ann,” whispered Grandma.“I can barely remember.” But I still remembered her story about Peti cutting off Zoe’s two beautiful long braids (辫子) and then hiding them in the closet. Were those words still moving silently in her head?

Mom was sorting through our clothes for spring.“Ann, take these out to the trash,” Mom said.“There’s no need to keep worn-out clothes.”

I looked sadly at the pile of sweaters and then picked it up.

“Wait,” Grandma said as I walked by her and put the pile downstairs.“Let me see those.”

“Ann, wind the yarn (纱线) of the old sweater into a ball, like this. Then you can use the yarn to knit something new.” Grandma wrapped yarn around and around her fingers, first in one direction and then the other to keep the ball round.

After dinner Grandma fell asleep in her chair.

Mark was seated at the window, watching the other flats. He thought of his father, who had been in the hospital looking after Mark’s sick grandfather. “I’ll do my best to help my mother when you’re away,” Mark promised.

Next to him was his younger brother, Paul. “Mark, when will we have a Christmas tree?” Paul asked. “I’m looking forward to decorating it with Mom’s straw birds.” “This year we won’t have a tree, Paul.” “Why not?” “Too many bills with Grandpa’s sickness. Mom said we couldn’t buy one.”

There was a knock at the door of their flat, and they rushed over to find out who it was. It was Jack from downstairs. He was admitted into the flat, and he glanced about. “You don’t have any trees? I helped to place the artificial tree last week. It’s up to the ceiling. There are only two more days until Christmas! I don’t think you’ll get a tree.” Paul was unconvinced by Jack’s words. “Definitely not! We’re going to buy a genuine(真正的) Christmas tree, a genuine one!” Jack shrugged his shoulders and walked away.

Mark made his way back to his bedroom, shaking his piggy bank. That was only $7 in it. With school out, he thought, he would be able to make enough money in the next couple of days to get a tree and give Mom a surprise.

On the second day, Mark was busy transporting goods to assist the customers. When he was gone, he make another $6 in his pocket. It was his lucky day, and he had expected to spend $13 purchasing(购买) a little tree.

He whistled all the way to the tree lot(场地). But even the smallest one cost $15 or more. There would be a lot of shopping tomorrow, and he would make the extra dollars. 9 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I walked all the way home from school with my eyes planted on the ground. It had to be around here somewhere. It had to be.

“Watch out!” someone shouted. I looked back and found it was my lab partner Meheer. I was usually glad to see Meheer. He could always make me laugh, even while we were working in class. But today, nothing could cheer me up.

Meheer jumped off his bike. “What’s wrong?”

“Oh, I lost a necklace (项链) that used to belong to my grandmother. I thought it might havefallen off on the way to school this morning.”

“What does it look like? I’ll help you find it.”

We searched around the path but found nothing.

“There’s always tomorrow,” said Meheer, patting (轻拍) me on the shoulder. “I have a feeling it will turn up.”

“I doubt it,” I said.

Alone, I stood on the front walk for a minute. I had promised my mother I’d be more responsible. What would she think of me now? Slowly, I walked to the front door, pressed the handle, and stepped inside.

My mother was in the kitchen, cutting carrots for her famous vegetable soup. “You’re late,” she said. “You didn’t tell me anything you had after school today.”

“I’m sorry. I guess I should have called.”

“Kari, you may be in the eighth grade now, but I still need to know where you are. I’m responsible for what happens to you.”

That was my mother: never failing in her responsibilities. I, on the other hand, couldn’t even manage the smallest thing.

“So,” she said, “what was it that kept you at school?”

“I lost Grandma’s necklace,” I blurted out (脱口而出). “I’m so sorry. I looked every wherefor it. Mum, please don’t be angry with me. It was an accident.”

My mother stopped cutting and her expression was one I’d never seen before. She said nothing. Then she walked out of the room. Oh, this was worse than I thought. She couldn’t even stand looking at me. A moment later, she reappeared in the doorway. “Do you remember what I said when I gave you the necklace?” I nodded. “You said I was old enough now to be trusted with greater responsibilities.”

It was a lovely summer morning, and all the world was bright and fresh, filled with pleasant smell of flowers and trees. How sweet!

Allen’s heart was overflowing with joy at the thought of his daughter, Jessie. “She is just as lovely and shining as the sunshine.” he said to himself.

As a father of a young daughter, Allen was always employed in making the ends meet and hardly could he spare time for his daughter. Today, he turned off the phone, setting aside a whole for the joy of parenthood in the park.

On arriving at the park, Jessie ran through the pathways, giggling for all the fun it was to run in such green grass. The deep-green tree leaves shone in the summer morning breeze and the birds and butterflies danced in the air as if saying: “Allen, you have a perfect daughter!” Allen chased after the little angel, heart filled with happiness.

Suddenly, Jessie discovered a vendor(小摊贩) selling apples. She turned around, using her puppy eyes and adorable face to beg her father to buy an apple. Allen didn’t bring a lot of money but it was enough to buy two apples. So he bought two apples for his daughter without any hesitation, thinking “she deserves everything I could afford.”

Jessie held an apple in each hand excitedly. And at the same time, Allen lowered himself, joking: “Would you like to share an apple with Daddy?” Out of Allen’s wildest expectation, hearing this, his daughter quickly took a bite from an apple before her father spoke anything more. Unbelievably, she then also bit the other apple. The father was speechless, frozen with sadness on the spot, not knowing what to do next. He wanted to know what mistakes he had made in raising children, making his dear daughter so greedy. His heart was filled with deep sorrow. “Maybe I just thought too much. My daughter is too young to understand sharing and giving.” Allen tried to comfort himself but with the smile disappearing from his face.
