1 . How can you build trust when meeting strangers?

Say hello.

The quickest and surest way to befriend someone you don’t know is to simply say hello.

Approach a stranger that has caught your attention and say something along the lines of, “Hey how’s the day going so far? ”    1    It will likely work best in an environment where social interaction is commonly expected.

People approach one another because they assume that there will be a particular outcome.

The fact is our assumptions about someone affects how you interact with them. You’re more likely to build up friendship if you spend more time listening to someone than waiting for them to fulfill your assumptions about them.    3    Doing so will help you get an accurate perspective on who they are quickly.

Keep a positive attitude.

If you run into someone that does not warmly receive a friendly “Hello,” don’t let this ruin your day. Remind yourself that most people are excited when someone breaks the ice.

When someone turns a cold shoulder to your attempts to start a conversation, note that whatever reason they have for doing so has nothing to do with you. They may have just missed Their chance.     4    

Talk to strangers daily.

Plenty of people are shy, if not fearful, of introducing themselves to strangers.     5    While it may feel awkward, fight through your block and make a point of introducing yourself to someone you don’t know every day.

4 . Starting your new school life can be difficult. Everything seems hard, and you don’t even know where to go for your own classes.     1    .   Here are some suggestions on how to make friends at a new school.

Be active to start a conversation. A smile goes a long way. When walking in the halls, don’t keep your eyes on the floor. If you see someone, give them a smile or say hi.     2    .

Remember people’s names.    3    .   You can say something like, “I remember you said something very interesting yesterday and wanted to talk about it some more, but I’m new here and don’t remember your name yet. Would you mind telling me again?”

Join some clubs and activities. A new school and a new group of classmates offer more chances to explore(探索) some new interests.     4    .   There you can meet people who share your interests and are looking forward to making new friends too.

    5    .   Do you want to help the old or protect the environment? Speak up. Share your unique(独特的) ideas in the new school. Your new schoolmates will remember you immediately. They are more likely to talk with you and know you better. Then you will be able to make new friends.

5 . If someone kindly introduces you to someone in their network or connects you with someone they think you should know by email, here are the steps to politely and effectively send your email response.

Respond immediately

Since you are the one being introduced by a colleague, probably because you requested an introduction, then you will be the one to respond first and as soon as possible.     1     You are letting the sender know you appreciate the introduction, and that you want to set up a meeting with the person you've been introduced to.

If you haven't already researched the person you are being introduced to, now is the time to do it.It's also good to see if they've posted any updates on social media that may provide insight (洞察力)into what projects they are working on or what they are talking about on social media.     3    

Say thanks for the introduction

Definitely show your gratitude to the person for their introduction.     4     The proper manner is to put the sender's name in the blind carbon copy (bcc) and reply all with your message. Putting their name in the bcc line ensures they receive your response but not future messages from the other person.

Pay attention to your request

When gathering information from the person you' ve been introduced to, be very clear about the information you are looking for. Don't say you are looking to“pick their brain" or“learn about their career path."     5     Instead, specifically state one or two questions you would like the person to answer during your brief meeting with them, not through email.
