2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Thomas Mayfield had a major problem to solve in his fifth-grade classroom. “I’m not good at adding. I don’t know how to regroup or borrow. I’m not good at subtracting (减法). Or I don’t know my facts yet, and I’m a fifth-grader,” Mayfield’s students used to tell him. The 42-year-old math teacher from Fort Worth, Texas, took their frustrations to heart. Mayfield knew it was important to try something new, especially because most of his students were also struggling outside of the classroom. Single-parent homes, low financial stability... a lot of that was going on.

Mayfield teaches at Title I school, where at least 40% of students are economically disadvantaged. He grew up going to these types of schools in Fort Worth, too. As a child, he loved to go to school, but always had great difficulty with the study of math. Besides, due to the fact that he had to take much time to help deal with the family’s financial situation, it seemed harder for him and children in similar situations to learn some subjects, especially math, well.

To reach students in a way that was familiar and inviting, he brought rap music to the classroom. He even made some videos, in one of which he played an instrumental beat to Luniz’s song I Got 5 on It. This got his students excited, even crazy. Then they started to rap about decimal point (小数点). “Now let’s break this thing down,” rapped Mayfield and students in the video.

Let’s start with the tenths

Like a dime (1角硬币) to a dollar, there’s 1 out of 10

Then we move to the hundredths, one part out of many

One out of 100, we call that a penny

……

They rapped and made popular music videos with thousands of views about math, and motivational songs like passing the big end-of-year exam.

Choosing the right college can be a difficult task. There are thousands of colleges and universities for you to choose from and many are worthy of being considered. For each potential college, find out the success rate of students' getting their jobs, especially those related to your majors. Here are some strategies(策略)for you to make the right choice.

Colleges which offer practice in some of the fields are worthy of your attention. It can provide you with a large amount of information on job hunting. Companies often prefer employees that perform well. Practice gives you the valuable experience and necessary opportunities. Some practical skills that you learn will really prepare yourself for the certain jobs. Besides, choosing a college that has teacher members with good reputations in their fields can also be very useful since these teacher members can provide you with steps into the working world by practice.

School rankings and a national reputation of academic success are often the important factors(因素)for your potential employers. This type of information can be found easily on the Internet and in magazines. To the employers, graduates from high ranking colleges are often considered more reliable. They have a stronger ability to learn and are more likely to create wealth for the company. Sometimes it can even be a more important factor in looking for a job than the actual quality of education the college provides.

After narrowing down your choices to a few colleges, it's time to visit them. Taking a look at the campus(校园)can change your attitude to a particular school. Plan your tour and then do some research on your own. It is also important to talk to as many students as you can and find out if earning a degree from the school is helpful in getting a job. Meanwhile, you can speak to the students in the majors you're considering to know what the courses are like, what you'll learn, and what your expected outcome will be.

6 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

How to Deal with Pressures at School

As a high school student, if you are feeling stressed out or frustrated by teachers, classmates,or schoolwork,it is important to know that you aren't the only one. Believe it or not, everyone has these feelings at some point, and everyone should learn how to deal with them properly.

First of all, you need to keep a positive attitude and not take things to heart. That someone got a better grade than you doesn't mean that they are smarter—perhaps they studied longer or knew the material more. It's easy to become frustrated if you are not doing as well as your friends, but being optimistic will help you deal with future similar situations.

Secondly, if students at school are bullying you, know when to stand up for yourself. Don't let other classmates make you feel that you are not good enough. They are simply insecure and do not know how to deal with the pressures of school. They are just trying to make others feel bad, so they can feel better about themselves.

Lastly, it is necessary to keep things correctly. For any situation that is stressful, take a second look from a different point of view. When I look back to the frustrations of my high school days, I notice that many of them seem very unimportant to me now.

It's not easy to be confident when there are so many students who seem like they "have it all",but try to realize that you, too, are good enough. It’s not a competition about who is smarter, more beautiful—everyone is different—so believe your individuality.

7 . 阅读下面短文, 根据其内容写一篇 60 词左右的内容概要。

Before a child starts school, his or her main role models are his or her parent or caregiver. Parents or caregivers with high self-esteem( 自尊) typically model this to the children, who will gradually pick up these ideas. Those who are influenced by negativity(否定性,消极态度), even if the negativity is not towards them, will often take the same way of thinking, leading to low self-esteem in childhood.

Continual praise for a child’s achievements plays a large part in a child’s view of himself or herself. Praising a child for acting as expected or something good often encourages him or her to repeat the same action and forms a sense of self-worth. Empty praise, however, can have the opposite(相反的)effect. A child who is praised for anything will stop believing the words, and the empty praise will have little effect on self-esteem in childhood or possibly a negative effect.

Providing a child with responsibilities based on his or her abilities is also important in the development of self-esteem in childhood. Making a child feel like a helpful member of a family or group, whether at home or school, helps to form a higher sense of confidence in his or her abilities. However, giving a child unfit responsibilities or tasks can do no good to the development of high self-esteem in childhood.

Each person has strengths and weaknesses. A child can build up his or her confidence level when he/she is encouraged to take part in activities ,which can provide him or her with chances to work on weaknesses(缺点) in a helpful environment . Children who are given the opportunities to use their unique skills to help others or improve themselves have higher self-esteem than those who are not given the same chances or who are pushed into activities that they do not enjoy or do not have an ability to do.

8 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Getting up early has been seen as a good habit since ancient times. Many years ago, people thought that if we went to bed early and got up early, we would be energetic (精力充沛的) the whole day. So, getting up early is of great importance to us all.

In fact, morning is the best time of a day. In the morning, the air is the freshest and people are usually in the best condition. Many of us may have the experiences that we memorize some things more quickly and correctly in the morning than any other time of the day. And it is certain that we find it easier to understand what we learn. If we get up early and do some morning exercises or only take a short walk in the morning, without doubt we can build up our bodies and become much healthier. Also we will have enough time to make a plan and get ready for our work or study of the day if we get up early. For example, if everyone in the family gets up early, the wife will have enough time to prepare the breakfast for the whole family. Children will have enough time to catch the school bus, and the husband will never forget to change his dirty shirt. Everything is in order. However, if we get up late, we’ll probably have to do everything in a hurry.

Getting up early is such a good habit that we should try our best to keep it. If we stick to (坚持) getting up early every day, we will certainly benefit a lot from it.
