1 . Growing up. Mychal Threets fell in love with reading at Fairfield Civic Center Library (FCCL) in California. Now, at age 33, he is the supervising librarian of FCC Land has gained a following of more than 740,000 people who enjoy watching the video she posts about libraries on social media.

He posts videos about being a librarian as well as tips on using a library card, book recommendations, and stories about children who have discovered their love of reading at the library. And with hundreds of thousands of followers across Instagram and TikTok, he spreads awareness far and wide about the numerous positive impacts libraries have on their communities.
Last year, he was among 10 librarians chosen by the American Library Association to win the I Love My Librarian Award for outstanding public service. “He has touched many people in a positive way and has created a place for all to know they are cared about and loved.” one of his nominators (提名人) wrote. “His devotion, innovation, and impact have improved our library to new heights, strengthening its role as a center for growth and learning.”
It seems clear that Threets will continue to inspire the next generation of librarians. The message he has for young people is to remember to visit their own local library. “When life gets tough.” Threets said, “you can always find a library card.”

The Words of Kindness
Last week, I was shopping in the local supermarket. My 24-year-old daughter happened to be with me as she had just arrived home for a much-needed visit because she was going to work abroad for six months. As we were walking through the aisles (走道) and picking things she needed, we heard a child’s crying that would last more than fifteen minutes. I wanted to walk over to investigate the situation, already picturing the scene in my mind. No doubt, the cries of the young boy could be heard clearly across the store.
My daughter came up to me and said, “Mom! Is that what I sounded like when I was little?”
“Yes, Rach, you sounded just like that,” I replied.
We tried to continue our shopping, but the loud cries made by the boy who was asking his mom for something continued for what felt like no ending. Several more minutes went by, and the boy just wouldn’t stop. I felt it necessary to follow the cries. As I approached the aisle, I could see several people watching us at the other end of the aisle, talking to each other and shaking their heads. They would walk away and then turn around with their carts (购物车) to continue their talks and figure out what was happening.
I arrived at the aisle to find a twenty-something mother standing in the middle of the aisle calmly telling the boy, “No.” She was not going to get whatever the boy wanted. He was holding his mother’s arms, crying, trying to get her to move. His face turned red with tears. He remained seated on the floor and beat at his mom’s legs with his arms while crying at the top of his voice.

And I’ll never forget that it was her difficult decision — her tears and her pain — that made me a mom.
As my daughter grows, she will understand that sometimes life is a relay race (接力赛), and you never know who in this world will hand you your baton (接力棒). It could be someone you know for years, or it could be someone who you even never meet, someone you will never be able to repay for giving you the life you always wanted.

Harrison’s home was in a small village. He was a 17-year-old high school student who walked to and from school by himsclf every day. He hadn’t had many friends since growing up, so he always felt lonely.
