Henry Tyler made the catch of the year on the weekend. When he saw a young child hanging from a sixth-floor apartment balcony (阳台), Henry ran one hundred metres, jumped over a 1.2-metre fence, and held out his arms to catch the     1     (fall) child.

Eric Brown, only three years old, knocked Henry down when he fell. The boy is in the hospital and doctors say he'll be OK.

25-year-old Wan Minghui is a girl from a small city of Zigong in Sichuan Province. When she was young, she grew up closely with her grandparents. Now her grandfather is 84 years old,       1    (live) alone after her grandmother passed away. Then an idea came to mind that she would quit her job to accompany him and set out to help him realize some of his wishes on his bucket list.

An anxious 18-year-old Peng Lanxi got his     1     (admit) letter from Hunan University of Science and Technology on July 26, bringing his dream closer—making prosthetic limbs (假肢) more advanced and     2     (access) to people like him.

Peng is not alone. According to the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, 14,559 students facing physical challenges entered college last year. From 2016 to 2020, about 57,500 students with special needs enrolled at universities,     10     more than 50 percent increase compared with the 2011—2015 period.

I could feel the excitement rising in me as I held the beautifully wrapped present in my hands. Unable to contain my curiosity any longer, I tore     1    open. It was a brand-new laptop. “Hi, there! This is fairy Chenxi who loves handicrafts and life,” says the 30-year-old, her bright smile     3     (shine). Behind her     4     (be) shelves of clay figurines (泥人) that she has made. Xiang teaches people how to make such figurines through her livestreams.

Xiang was diagnosed at the age of 8 with a rare disease. She lost the ability to walk and     5     (reduce) to a wheelchair user. In 2016, Xiang decided to share her own story online of     6     she deals with her own challenges to encourage those severely ill to persevere. Meantime she began to make clay figurines while interacting with her audience.

Xiang’s handicrafts enjoyed enormous popularity. However, she had just made major progress in livestreaming     7     her condition worsened to the edge of death. She even expressed her final wish in the recorded video     8     (donate) her body. The     9     (courage) woman miraculously survived after two weeks of treatment, but she has to live on ventilator (呼吸机) support for the rest of her life.
