文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了动画师是如何创作动画电影的。

1 . Remember Lion King? Many of us walked out of that animation movie being in awe of (钦佩) the storyline, the songs, the colours and the animation. However, how many of us would have given thought to the work done by the animators?

1     Now, multiply the amount of work it takes to produce a 90-minute movie. Mind-blowing, is it pot? The patience, skills and technical training required are a lot more demanding (高要求的) than a non-animated movie.

One of the greatest soft skills an animator can have will be the ability to work together in a team.     2     Just as it takes a village to bring up a child, it takes a number of people to create an animated film.

The team of animators usually use computer software and work with artists to create the magic and make the characters “come to life.” A successful production accurately captures (捕捉) the characters’ wide range of expressions, among other aspects.     3     It’s usually after a great amount of time spent studying acting and observational skills. The animators study body movements to create realistic and specific emotions and reactions in their characters.

Animation work usually differs from pre-production to production stages. Some animators are involved in developing and visualizing (可视化)the storyline. Some animators are involved in keeping the characters’ personalities and core (核心的) positions constant throughout the production.     4     At times, the movements of the actors and actresses are captured and then mapped on to the animation drawings.

Do animators go to a school to learn animation first? Ideally, yes. It is highly recommended that animator-lovers get a college degree first. If you are interested in becoming an animator, do not stop there. Bravely approach production houses for internship (实习) opportunities.     5

A.Animation is never a solo effort.
B.These expressions are not created overnight.
C.The team will also need to be good communicators.
D.It takes weeks to create a ten-second animation production.
E.Animators at the production stage bring the characters to life.
F.An animator with a suitable qualification and experiences is always in demand.
G.Animators are the most sensitive creators when it comes to life and human nature.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了深度工作的重要性以及怎样才能有效进行深度工作。

2 . It is commonly thought that productivity involves doing several things at once.     1     Newport, the author of Deep Work, describes the benefits of focusing on one thing and doing it with excellence. He explains deep work as “the ability to focus without distraction on a cognitively (认知地) demanding task.”     2

According to Newport, deep work is an invaluable skill in today’s economy. It allows you to learn difficult things quickly. Most people are distracted when they work, so if you learn to work without distraction, that gives you an advantage.     3     Developing excellence in one’s craft can be deeply satisfying.

It’s important to schedule deep work into your day. Otherwise, it’s easy to let your time fill up with shallow work. Newport recommends doing deep work as your first task of the day.     4     Shallow work does need to get done, but if you save it for later in the day, you can get your deep work done, too.

Because deep work is by definition cognitively demanding, you won’t be able to do it all day. Beginners can usually only focus on deep work for approximately an hour, and even experts have trouble going more than four hours.     5     If you really focus, you’ll be surprised at how much you accomplish in a few hours.

A.So set reasonable goals for yourself.
B.Concentration is an increasingly valuable skill.
C.That way you get it done before distractions build up.
D.But the secret to success is the opposite of multitasking.
E.Without smartphones, you fall into deep work more easily.
F.It also enables you to produce to the best of your ability and acquire new skills quickly.
G.It differs from shallow work, which consists of simple tasks performed while distracted.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。作者通过这篇文章向我们描述了优秀的科学家的性格特点。

3 . Characteristics of an excellent scientist

The Free Dictionary defines(定义) a scientist as a person having professional knowledge on one or more sciences, especially natural science or physical science.     1     Let’s look at some characteristics of an excellent scientist.

Curiosity.

2     Scientists such as Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse discovered things mainly because they wanted to know how things worked. If a scientist doesn’t have the drive to ask questions or even wonder, then he/ she never gets to the first stage of the scientific process.

Patience.

3     There are very few jobs that take longer than this one. Even if you think you have received some education on science, you still have a lot of scientific research to do. If you’re an instant-gratification (及时满足的) type of person, this may not be the best choice for you.

Ethical (道德的)qualities.

In order to truly discover and use knowledge for the greater good, a scientist must have a desire to improve people’s life as well as the environment, since they are linked and they can affect each other in the long run. A scientist must report findings honestly regardless of personal or outside commercial (商业的) interests. Sticking to an old belief contradicted(反驳)by evidence is dishonest.     4

Working habits.

An excellent scientist even takes notes of the smallest observation, keeping it in mind and recording it.     5     He/ She also needs to communicate thoughts on paper and verbally. Networking skills connect him/ her with colleagues working on similar projects where he/ she may discover something new.

A.Becoming a scientist takes a long time.
B.An excellent scientist must be very curious about things.
C.It also defines a scientist as someone who uses scientific methods.
D.However, that belief shouldn’t be changed without powerful evidence.
E.He/ She can work well alone or in groups, depending on what’s needed.
F.To make discoveries in human knowledge, you have to think differently.
G.One of the main places that many scientists work in is the research laboratory.

4 . Run! LunchDelivery Men!

It’s lunch time, and Guo Ziyang is on a mission: deliver seven hot meal orders in an hour.

He dashes into a downtown highrise, carrying a plastic container of hot beef noodles. There is no time to wait for the right elevator. He hops into the first one that opens, jumps out at the last stop and begins running up the stairs. After a quick handoff to the customer, he races down 20 flights.     1     Across China’s biggest cities, the scene has become as familiar as crowded subways.     2     Meals appear with just a few taps on a smartphone. With the major delivery services offering similar pricing strategies and food choices, the burden of competition has fallen largely on the speed of the delivery people, popularly known as Waimai Xiaoge, or “Brother Takeaway”.

Guo said he wolfs down four or five steamed buns before starting work every morning. “You’ll need the energy for various delivery missions, ” he said. “Sometimes, the buildings you deliver to don’t have elevators.     3     Then, you have to climb ten flights of stairs.”

Guo works around Shanghai’s central business district. He joined Eleme only last year.     4     With a foodwarmer box tied to his scooter, Guo tears through traffic, rushes past pedestrians and avoid bumps that might spill soup dishes. In less than two hours, he has made stops at a hospital, a hair salon, a hotel room and several highrises. Six orders an hour is the norm for the lunchtime rush, but Guo said he is sometimes called upon to deliver ten meals. “    5     You just have to apologize, ” he said.

Nevertheless, Guo said he thrives on deadline pressure. “I’m the kind of person who likes challenging work, ” he added.

A.One order down, six to go.
B.Sometimes, the elevators are crowded and take a long time.
C.But he has memorized the layouts of all the buildings in his area.
D.That’s really difficult, and if you arrive late, customers get angry.
E.The arrival of fooddelivery apps has transformed the country’s lunchtime culture.
F.The tradition of going out for a meal has been under pressure from the fast pace of urban life.
G.Sometimes, people ask them to pick up cigarettes, alcohol and other items, which they aren’t supposed to do.

5 . Volunteering in your community gives you a chance to give back. You’ll feel that you are volunteering your time, and a local organization will benefit, too. Below are some tips on finding an organization that’s a good fit for you.

When you decide to volunteer, you may choose the first volunteer opportunity you come across.     1     When looking for an organization to volunteer at, try to pick one with a cause that arouses your passions.

Look for more than just the “standard” volunteer organization. When you think about volunteering, your mind may immediately focus on organizations such as soup kitchens, homeless shelters, or food banks. While those organizations are very worthy of your time, you may find other opportunities better fit your personality or skill set.     2     For example, you may find that volunteering with your local parks and youth organizations may be more to your liking.

3     Much like job search sites, you can use volunteer sites to help you find volunteer opportunities in your area. Organizations list volunteer openings on their websites, and you can search through and narrow them down.

4     You may find one of them has the perfect opportunity for you, and it may be easier to volunteer with someone you know at first. Volunteering with friends can make it more enjoyable because you’re with people you know and have fun with.

Pick an organization that will teach you something new. The first objective of volunteering is to help an organization and your community. However, volunteer opportunities can also benefit you. They can give you career experience you don’t have.     5

A.Use a volunteer site to find a good match.
B.Some organizations will also offer you training and career development.
C.If that doesn’t work, consider finding another opportunity somewhere else.
D.These are the ones that you may not think of immediately but that still need help.
E.If you can’t narrow down the choices, start asking people you know where they volunteer.
F.Knowing the length of time you want to commit to can also help you choose an organization.
G.However, you’re likely to be happier at an organization that supports a cause you care about.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要为Angela Copeland给出的找工作的四大建议。

6 . Career coach Angela Copeland encourages job seekers to think beyond the normal barriers or unspoken rules. “It’s always been my philosophy that you have to think outside the box.     1     because then no one is going to know who you are,” says Copeland, author of Breaking The Rules & Getting The Job. The best jobs, she says, go to those who try harder, who are creative and who break the rules in their job search. By challenging yourself to think differently and to take risks, you will be ahead of your peers, she adds.

Copeland offers her top four tips while looking for a job.

Don’t listen to HR about how to apply

The standard line is to apply for a job online. Copeland suggests finding other ways to apply, whether it is in person, via a headhunter or through a friend inside the company.     2    .

Don’t be afraid of social media

Know that potential employers will Google you and look through your social media profiles.     3    . But also use social media to meet new people. Many senior executives manage their own accounts online, and it’s good to engage with them when possible.

    4

Network with people in your industry. Attend events and reach out to people by email or phone. Out of 10 contacts, you may only have three who respond. But one of those could lead you to your new job.

Don’t expect others to train you

If you want to learn a new skill set, figure out how to train yourself. Stay current in your industry by taking the initiative.     5

A.Don’t make contact with peers
B.Don’t worry about bothering people
C.Keep them professional and updated
D.You can’t be so worried about following the rules
E.You can’t expect to always get on-the-job training
F.Look into the camera and not at your surroundings
G.Applying in person is often the most effective method

文章大意:本文是一篇议论文,主要论述的是领导者的领导才能。

7 . When I started my career, I observed people in leadership roles and thought, “They’re so lucky. They have so much control. So imagine my surprise when I took a course in business school on leadership and was told that as you get more senior, you are more dependent on other people.     1

They were right. I am dependent on my sales team, not the other way around.     2    . As a leader, what I can accomplish is not just what I can do myself but what everyone on my team does.

Companies in every country operate in ways that are right for their own cultures.     3     One of those is that it is better to inspire than to direct. Yes, people will do what their bosses tell them to do in most organizations. But great leaders do not just want to secure compliance (顺从). They want to elicit genuine enthusiasm, complete trust, and real dedication.     4    . If they believe in your organization’s mission and they believe in you, they will not only do their daily tasks well, but they will do them with true passion..

No one won more hearts than my beloved husband Dave Goldberg who passed away suddenly two months ago. Dave was an inspiring leader. He was kind. He was generous. He was thoughtful.     5    . He did it as CEO of SurveyMonkey, an amazing company that he helped build. He did it for me and for our children.

Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence. Like Dave, you can do this for others over the course of your career.

A.If they fall short, it is my mistake.
B.At the time, I thought my professors were wrong.
C.He raised the level of performance of everyone around him.
D.They don’t just win the minds of their teams, they win their hearts.
E.But I believe there are some principles of leadership that are universal.
F.And different cultures shape different company principles to boost production.
G.Our friend Bill Gurley wrote a post where he urged others to “Be Like Dave.”

文章大意:本文是说明文,文章提供了如何选择合适的职业的几条建议。

8 . How to choose a career—for many, it’s a big and scary question. Deciding on the right career path is one of the most important decisions you’ll make in your life.     1     Don’t worry. Here is a practical guide on how to choose a career path.

List your skills.

No matter who you are, I know there are plenty of things you’re good at. Make a list of every single one that comes to mind. What subjects did you ace in school? What talents do people compliment you on?     2     Don’t leave out any skill, even if you don’t think it qualifies as a career skill. You never know how your unique set of strengths could transfer to a job.

Identify your passions.

Passion isn’t just a pipe dream.     3     No one wants to do work that makes them feel like a zombie! Finding your passion doesn’t mean the work will always be easy, but it does mean you’ll be fulfilled while doing it. Make a list of the activities that bring you to life, energize you, inspire you, and make you lose track of time.

    4

The next factor we need to consider is mission. Who are the people you most want to help? What problems do you want to solve? What causes inspire or concern you? How have you been able to help people in ways that were meaningful to you? These are important questions to ask yourself, because without having a deeper purpose or why behind your work, it will be hard to stay with it in the long term.

Do some research.

5     Here is where you could find out the minimum requirements for each profession educationally, physically and mentally. As you continue your research, prioritize jobs that are in line with your aspirations and dismiss ones that clash or have little in common with your strong attributes.

A.Address your concerns.
B.Figure out your motivation.
C.However, you need to achieve it by every means.
D.These are all clues that tell you what your strengths are.
E.Thorough survey about the listed careers is of great importance.
F.It’s a very real and necessary part of doing a job that’s meaningful to you.
G.With endless career options available, making the right choice can be overwhelming.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章简要对面试过程进行了介绍。

9 . An interview is a process in which a potential employee or a candidate applying for a job is evaluated by an employer for potential employment in their company, office or organization.     1    . The process can help an employer gain an understanding of the attitude and character of the applicant.

Many people try to apply for the job after seeing simply a short job advertisement that gives only the general title and basic requirements for the job.     2    . It is also for the candidate to decide whether the job is right for him or her.

3    . Often, an interview is one of the last steps in the hiring process, after applications and CVs have been presented. An employer may choose to interview all of the candidates, or a few top applicants that seem to be the most experienced or capable. Interviews may be conducted over the phone or face to face. Phone interviews may be done to narrow down the range to only a few candidates. Since the interview process may take place weeks or months after applications are submitted, phone interviews allow the employer to know whether the applicant is still interested in the job. In-person interviews permit the most detailed examination of both the candidate and the employer.     4    .

During the interview process, the employer may ask a variety of questions about the applicant’s motive, ambition, experience, education and personality.     5    . Some employers may rate or grade applicants on the basis of their answers. Ratings and grades may be weighed depending on the employer and the job. After all interviews are completed, the employer will usually give the job to the person with the highest weighed rating.

A.The information is generally kept private
B.It’s not always quick and easy to get hired
C.Therefore, they may take longer than phone interviews
D.The questions you ask can make a difference to an interview
E.Employers may conduct an interview in different ways
F.The interview is a method an employer uses to help make hiring decisions
G.It is considered by many experts to be the most important aspect of the selection process

10 . Many questions can be expected in advance and it’s wise to have some well-constructed answers that you can tailor more closely in an interview. Remember to always try and make your answers positive.

Q1: Tell me about yourself.

A1: This is just to get things started, but it is a very common question. Write a script, and practice it so that it sounds natural. Spend a maximum of four minutes describing your qualifications, career history and your range of skills.     1

Q2: What have been your achievements to date?

A2: Again, this is a common question, so be prepared. Select an achievement that is experience-related and fairly recent.     2

Q3: What do you like about your present job?

A3: This is a straightforward question. All you have to make sure is that your ‘likes’ correspond to the skills etc. required for the job on offer.     3     After all, you are leaving?

Q4: What are your strengths?

A4: This is the one question that you are definitely going to get.     4     Concentrate on discussing your main strengths. List three or four explanations of how they could benefit the employer. Strengths to consider include technical proficiency; ability to learn quickly; determination to succeed; positive attitude; your ability to relate to people and achieve a common goal. You may be asked to give examples of the above, so be prepared.

Q5: Tell me about the most difficult situation you’ve had to face and how you handled it.

A5: This can be a trap!     5     It would be better if you can quickly explain it in a few sentences. Explain how you defined the problem, what the options were, why you selected the one you did and what the outcome was. Always end on a positive note.

A.So, there is no excuse for being unprepared.
B.Be careful not to mention anything about it.
C.Emphasize those skills that are relevant to the job on offer.
D.Therefore, you should describe all your strengths in details.
E.To avoid it, select a difficult work situation that was not caused by you.
F.Identify skills you used in this achievement and say what the results were.
G.Be positive, describe your job as interesting and diverse, but do not overdo it.
