Being a good listener can not only help someone solve much of life’s problems but also improves his way of dealing with matters. There was a time while misunderstanding occurred to between my friend and me, and we quarreled terribly at that time. For the sake of our friendship, I took great courage to make an explanation to him. But as a result, the more I explained, the angry he seemed. I was in great despair. Quarreling with him again one day, I suddenly realized that I should be good listener so that he could tell me how was in his mind. Strange enough, it does work. Misunderstanding between us was removing and we became good friends again .

On my fourteen birthday, I received lots of presents. Which present is the best in my eye? It’s hand-made notebook, that my best friend Jane gave to me. Jane made it by himself. On each page of the notebook, there’s a picture for Jane and me with some words. She either encourages me or tell me how she feels about our friendship. Every time I look at the notebook, I’m touching by something warm. This present is a memory of the wonderfully time we’ve spent together. I will kept this special gift forever.

Phoebe is from London and studies in our class as exchange student. She has been learning Chinese for the last three years, but she still fails in the final exam last week. Our teacher said she still had to learn for a lot in her new language, what made her very upset. See this, I tried to comfort her and gave her some suggestion on how to improve her language skills so she can get a good grade next time. She was so moving and had tears in her eyes. Late, I got a beautiful email from her where she expressed her thanks for my kind. I'm not sure exact what to write back but I felt very happy.

The other day, I was invited my friend Sam's home for dinner. I felt a bit surprised when I saw Bill there. It was two month since we two had quarreled, so I was embarrassing and didn't know how to do. I sat down on the sofa but began to watch TV. Later Sam came to ask I to make up with Bill. Until then I don't realize that Sam had arranged the meeting on purpose. I went up to Bill and greeted him warmly, smiled at him. He looked very happy and talked with me excited. That night, we had a great fun together.

Dear Tom,
I'm glad to hear that you are considering make up with Peter. If I am you, I would consider a bike as a birthday present for him.
As far as I know, Peter is always in poor health, so he should take more exercises by riding a bike to have his body build up. In the meanwhile, you can often go out by bike together, which is helpful on rebuilding your friendship. Besides, taking a bike is environmentally-friendly means of transport. It's convenient to get around as well. Apart from giving him a gift, and you can also adopt other means, such as traveling, seeing a movie, having dinner and going shopping. No matter how you do, being sincere was the most important. Don't hesitate, and try to take action. I really hope that we can make up and be good friends forever.
Yours,
Li Hua

My friend Li Wei looks shy and childish, but in fact she is outgoing and bravely. She has many friends. Some are of her ages and some are very much older. She even makes friends in strangers. Last year, where we met two American tourists on a bus, she started to practice speak English with them. Now they have become pen pals. Dear Miss Wang,
It is the first time that I asked you for help, because I really don’t know how to do. It is the relationship between my mother and me that has troubled me for a long time. I’m a student and Mother is an university teacher, who is too busy with her work that she has little time to talk to me. I love her and I do good in my studies, but I still felt afraid of her as she is much too strict with me. What’s worse, I don’t know how to communicate with her. Maybe it’s because of we’ve seldom sat down and exchanged (交流) our feelings and thoughts. I hope we can know more about each other and understand each other better. What can we do? I wonder if you can give me some suggestion.
Looking forward to hear from you.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Xujuan
