文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了提高英语口语水平的方法,作者给出了自己的建议和意见。

2 . Although many Chinese students say that their knowledge of English grammar is good, most would admit that their spoken English is poor.     1     However, their spoken English does not have to remain “poor”. I would like to suggest that there may be some reasons for their problems with spoken English.

First,     2     Obviously the better answer is to expand their vocabulary. However, you can speak with a limited vocabulary, if your attitude is positive .Others will follow you as long as you use the words that you know.

Second,     3     Sometimes they make mistakes when they are speaking because they are shy and nervous. Yet students should remember that their goal should be FLUENCY NOT ACCURACY. Your aim in writing is to be accurate following the rules for grammar and using them to get your message across. But to talk to someone in English, as quickly and well as you can, even though sometimes you may use a wrong word or tense, but it doesn’t matter because the person you are speaking to will understand and forgive you for any mistakes he hears.

Third,     4     You have one mouth but two ears! All that hearing is necessary for you to start speaking.

Fourth,     5     Instead of actively seeking out opportunities to improve their spoken English they passively wait for speaking opportunities to come to them and wonder why their English always remains poor. If you have this proactive outlook, then, you will see English opportunities wherever you go.

A.not enough attention is paid to listening.
B.They fail to find suitable words to express themselves due to a limited vocabulary.
C.most Chinese students are reactive rather than proactive (预先主动的) language learners.
D.They are so stupid that they cannot finish their necessary homework in time.
E.Whenever I speak to some Chinese students they always say “My spoken English is poor.”
F.It is no use crying over spoilt milk.
G.They are afraid of making mistakes.

Among the four skills in learning English ,which of these is the “Odd-Man-Out”?The answer is speaking. The other three you can do alone on your own. But you can't really speak alone! Speaking to yourself can be “dangerous” because men in white coats may come and take you away!
Where can you find people to speak English? And how can you practise speaking when you are alone? At school if you pay to go to a language school ,you should use the chance to speak .If your teacher asks you to speak in pairs or groups with other students ,try to say as much as possible. Don't worry about your mistakes. Just speak!
Conversation Clubs Many cities around the world have conversation clubs where people can exchange one language for another .Look in your local newspaper to find a conversation club near you .They are usually free although some may charge a small entrance fee.
Shopping Even if you don't want to buy anything ,you can ask questions about products that interest you in a shop.“How much does this cost?” “Can I pay by cheque?” Often you can start a real conversation—and it costs you nothing!
Cafe and Bars There are often American, Britain, Irish and Australian bars in many large cities .If you can find one, you'll probably meet many people speaking English as a first or second language.
Language is all around you Everywhere you go, you find language .Shop names, street names ,advertisements ,notices ,and car numbers....When you walk down the street ,practise reading the words and numbers that you see .Say them to yourself .It's not exactly a conversation ,but it will help you to “think” in English .But don't speak too loud!
Songs and Video Repeat the words of an English-language song singing with the music until it becomes automatic. It's good practice for your memory and for the mouth muscles that you need for English.

5 . What is language for? Some people seem to think it's for practicing grammar rules and earning lists of words—the longer the lists, the better. That's wrong.Language is for the exchange(交流)of ideas and information. It's meaningless knowing all about a language if you can't use it freely. Many students I have met know hundreds of grammar rules, but they can't speak correctly or fluently(流利地).They are afraid of making mistakes. One shouldn't be afraid of making mistakes when speaking a foreign language.Native speakers make mistakes and break rules, too.Bernard Shaw once wrote, "Foreigners often speak English too correctly."But the mistakes that native speakers make are different from those that Chinese students make. They're English mistakes in the English language. And if enough native speakers break a rule, it is no longer a rule. What used to be wrong becomes right.People not only make history, they also make language. But a people can only make its own language. It can't make another people's language. So Chinese students of English should pay attention to grammar, but they shouldn't overdo(做过头)it.They should put communication(交际)first.
1. Language is used to ________.
A.express oneself
B.practise grammar rules
C.talk with foreigners only

B.foreigners speak incorrect English
C.foreigners speak English according to the grammar rules
D.foreigners never make mistakes when they speak English

6 .                          How to Learn A Foreign Language
Spend the time!
By far the most important factor is how much time you spend in learning the language. The more time you spend with the language, the faster you will learn.    1
Focus on words and phrases!
To build up your vocabulary, you’ll need lots.    2    Learn these words and phrases through your listening and reading. Read online, using online dictionaries, and make your own vocabulary lists for review. Gradually you will be able to use them.
    3
Listen wherever you are on your MP3 player. Read what you are listening to. Listen to and read things that you like, things that you can mostly understand. If you keep listening and reading, you will get used to the language.
Take responsibility for your own learning!
If you do want to learn the language, take control. Choose content of interest that you want to listen to and read. Seek out the words and phrases that you need to understand in your listening and reading.    4    Discover the language by yourself. Talk when you feel like it. Write when you feel like it.
Relax and enjoy yourself!
Do not worry about what you cannot remember, or cannot yet understand, or cannot yet say. It does not matter.    5    The language will gradually become clearer in your brain, but this will happen on a schedule that you cannot control. Just make sure you spend enough time with the language.
A.Listen and read every day!
B.You are learning and improving.
C.That is the greatest guarantee of success.
D.Do not wait for someone else to show you the language.
E.Start to notice words and how they come together as phrases.
F.Soon you will run into your new words and phrases elsewhere.

7 . Keeping a diary in English is one of the effective ways to improve our English writing ability.

Compared with other forms of writing, it is shorter and takes     1     (little) time. It can help us to develop the habit of thinking in English. If we persist in this practice, gradually we’ll learn how      2    (express)ourselves in English. In keeping a diary in English, we certainly run up against many      3     (difficult). In the first place, it often happens that we have trouble in      4    (find) appropriate words and phrases to give expression to our mind. Secondly, there      5    (be) many idiomatic ways of saying things in Chinese. And it is     6     (extreme) hard for us to put them into English properly.

As far as I am      7    (concern), my suggestion is      8     we should always have a notebook and a Chinese-English dictionary within easy reach. Whenever something beats us, we can first put it down in our notebook and then consult our dictionary. We can also ask our English teacher      9     help, if necessary. In short, I believe that it is of great use to keep a diary in English for      10     development of our writing skills.

Listening is important in learning spoken English.     2     Pay attention to conversations that happen around you while you are shopping. Watch the news every evening while you are having supper.

Part of learning spoken English is understanding how English words are formed. Watch the mouths and tongues of native English speakers carefully.     3     Notice how the lips form certain sounds. Imitate (模仿) what you see.
