3 . Five Steps to Better Handwriting
Some kids love handwriting, but others hate when it’s time to put their pen to paper. Maybe they are worried about their handwriting. Are you one of them?
Get a great grasp
Try this — hold your pencil at the top and try to write your name. Pretty hard? But when you hold your pencil the correct way, writing is much easier.
Let the lines be your guide
Lined paper is your friend! Those lines can help you create letters that are the right size and proportion (均衡).
Slow down
If your writing is hard to read, try slowing down a little. If you rush, it’s hard to control where you stop and start your letters.
Lower the pressure
Lots of games require you to write or draw pictures. So even though it’s not schoolwork, you’re still using the skills you need to control your pen better.
A.Play games |
B.Ask for more advice |
C.So “a” should be half the height of a capital “A”. |
D.You’ve been writing since you were a little kid. |

F.The good news is that just about everyone can improve their handwriting. |

5 . In order to learn a foreign language well, four things are important. First, we must understand the language when we hear it spoken. Secondly, we must be able to speak it ourselves, with confidence (自信) and without hesitation (犹豫). Thirdly, we must do much reading. Finally, we must be able to write it. We must be able to make sentences that are correct in grammar.
There are no shortcuts to success in language learning. A good memory is a great help, but it is not enough only to memorize the rules from a grammar book. It is not much learning by heart long lists of words and their meanings, studying the dictionary and so on. We must learn by using the language.
If we are pleased with a few rules we have memorized, we are not really learning the language. We must "learn through use". Practice is important. We must practise speaking and writing the language whenever we can.

6 . As an English learner, we sometimes get questions like this: “How can I speak English with more confidence?" That is a great question.
Every day, the most important person you talk to is yourself. That's to say, your own thoughts matter. If you lack confidence as an English speaker, you may say things like, "English is too hard" "I'm so sorry for my English." What's worse, you are sure to start believing them.
To sound more confident, speak loudly and slowly enough so that people can easily hear you. Many English learners worry that speaking too slow will make them sound inexperienced.
Reading out loud can help build confidence in how your English sounds. List words you have trouble saying and later check their pronunciation.
A.But you are more likely to make mistakes if speaking too fast. |
B.Take a few minutes to read the materials that you enjoy aloud. |

Work with a Local Travel Agent
If you feel particularly uncomfortable in the country you’re heading to, and you have to go anyway, relying on a local travel agent who knows both your and your destination's languages can be incredibly useful.
Hire a Local Tour Guide
A tour guide can help you get a better grasp of the local language and is a good person to practice words and phrases with.Whenever Mr.Thibault visits a new country, he books a sightseeing tour with a guide on the first day of his trip.“I use this day to learn about my destination and get familiar with the language,”he said.

There is no easy way to success
9 . It seems that more and more Americans want schools to teach foreign languages to children under five years old. The most popular way to teach young children another language is called immersion (沉浸式语言教学法). Children in the immersion program hear only the new language in the classroom. The children play games, sing songs and talk to one another in the new language. Some experts (家) say the immersion program is the most effective (有效的) for young children to learn a language. But there can be a problem when children in the United States begin to learn another language at such an early age. Not many elementary schools continue to teach a foreign language. Only seven of the fifty states require (要求) schools to teach a foreign language to students between the ages of six and twelve. Language experts say it is easier for younger children to learn a language. Still, American schools generally do not begin to teach foreign languages until secondary school. By then, students are about thirteen years old.
American schools face difficult choices about the cost of educational programs. The government has increased support for foreign language study in its Education Law called "No Child Left Behind".
At college, the Modern Language Association says more students than ever are studying foreign languages and more languages are being studied now. Spanish is the most widely taught at American colleges and universities. French, German, Chinese and Italian are also popular.

10 . The best way of learning a language is using it. The best way of learning English is talking in English as much as possible. Sometimes you’ll get your words mixed up (混合) and people will not understand you. Sometimes people will say things too quickly and you can’t understand them. But if you keep your sense of humor (幽默感), you can always have a good laugh at the mistakes you make. Don’t be unhappy if people seem to be laughing at your mistakes. It’s better for people to laugh at your mistakes than to be angry with you, because they don’t understand what you are saying. The most important thing for learning English is: “ Don’t be afraid of making mistakes because everyone makes mistakes.”
