Best Way to Lose Weight-Dieting Tips

How do you eat right to lose weight fast? You’ll discover there are a great number of weight loss diets which promise to help you drop the pounds fast.     1

Many weight loss diets are aimed at losing weight fast, but aren’t necessarily healthy and won’t create a long-term change for the better.     2     That means you’ll choose a diet which doesn’t cut out any necessary nutrients (营养物). Most diets suggest that you stop eating fat or carbs (碳水化合物).     3     You’ll need to make clear of your own body type before making a diet plan. You might also need to try different ways before finding the best way.

If you just need to shake a few pounds off in a short time, your plan won’t be the same as one to lose weight in the long term. The best short-term weight loss plan will be stronger than the best long-term weight loss plan, but both of them shouldn’t get rid of necessary nutrition.     4     Your body will go into “starvation mode” and your metabolism (新陈代谢) will slow down. As a result your body will keep more weight.

5     Spread out your meals evenly throughout the day. Any larger meals should be eaten earlier in the day. That gives your body more time and opportunity to burn calories. If you eat a lot before bed, those calories won’t burn but become fat.

A.But do they really work?
B.Once you start your plan, you shouldn’t stop.
C.In fact many people feel it hard to lose weight.
D.Besides, you also should pay attention to when you eat.
E.The best way to lose weight should be useful in the long term.
F.While this may help some people, there is no plan that is perfect for all.
G.If you try to make yourself hungry, you won’t achieve long-term results.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲的是作者发现处理剩菜可以是一种乐趣,而不是一件苦差事。

【推荐1】“Leftover roast potatoes? There’s no such thing!” shouted people on social media when I shared a suggestion for using up remaining potatoes. This response is common whenever I propose ideas for ingredients (食材) considered “delicious” or a treat: wine, Easter eggs and cream. One person’s trash is another person’s treasure, and all that—but the way we handle leftovers has to change. Because of my work creating recipes, I am constantly dealing with leftover food. I live alone, work from home and enjoy the challenge of transforming leftovers into new culinary delights.

During lockdown, I witnessed in people a growing understanding of having to make do with what was already in the cupboards, fridge and freezer. This led to an increasing confidence around making substitutions and understanding food-safety issues (such as the difference between “best before” and “use by”). I learned everything I know about food safety during my professional life.

While sharing food with neighbors, friends and the wider community is one way to deal with remaining ingredients, managing random bits and open packets requires a different approach. So in May 2022, I started a series on social media called Rollover Leftovers, showcasing daily short videos of my home cooking. Simple concepts such as refreshing rock-hard bread, freezing leftover chips or creating a “clear out the fridge” tray bake gained millions of views — a much bigger audience than I would expect for anything using tricky methods or fancy ingredients.

Use your imagination and trust yourself, and you’ll discover that leftovers can be a joy, not a chore. And if you find you have the leftovers of a great big turkey but are fed up with the sight of it, or you have more cranberry sauce than you could possibly eat alone, why not try joining forces with neighbors or friends? Not so much bring a bottle as bring a loaf, because a post-Christmas leftovers sandwich is truly the best bite of the year. Isn’t it?

1. What do people think of the author’s suggestion for leftovers?
A.It is impractical.B.It is typical.C.It is valuable.D.It is irresponsible.
2. What does the author intend to show in paragraph 2?
A.The new trend in cooking.B.The concern about food safety.
C.The importance of professional life.D.The change of household appliances.
3. What can we learn about the series of Rollover Leftovers?
A.It teaches cooking principles.B.It is a community programme.
C.It focuses on fresh ingredients.D.It has gained great popularity.
4. What should people do with the remaining turkey according to the author?
A.Reserve it in a bottle.B.Share it with neighbors or friends.
C.Put it in the fridge for the next meal.D.Use it to make sandwiches for charity.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。针对美国青少年吸电子烟泛滥的现象,美国政府联邦法将购买烟草的规定年龄从18岁提高到21岁。

【推荐2】One of the most important things of the U. S. government’s routine in 2020 is to raise the federal (联邦) legal age for buying tobacco from age 18 to 21.

Beginning in the summer of 2020, it will be against the law to sell tobacco to anyone under the age of 21. Since 1990, the legal age permitted to buy cigarette is at least 18. The law also includes e-cigarette, not just traditional tobacco products like cigarettes and cigars, adding regulation to this industry, which has developed largely unchecked.

The use of E-cigarette has increased sharply among U. S. teenagers. According to the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, 27.5% of U. S. high school students have used e-cigarette in the past month. Raising the age one can buy tobacco is intended to avoid what many people are calling an epidemic, which is doing great harm to the health of American teenagers.

A recent outbreak of the disease related to e-cigarette has raised even more concern about e-cigarette products , although the disease is largely linked to cartridges (药筒) filled with addictive Vitamin E acetate sold in black market.

In a statement to TIME, the American Lung Association considered raising the age one can buy tobacco as an easy way to protect children’s health and prevent them from getting addicted to nicotine.

Those in favor of e-cigarette have made it clear that they support raising the legal age permission for buying and using tobacco, arguing that e-cigarette products are never designed for young people. Some anti-cigarette (反对吸烟) people have expressed their doubt of this opinion.

At present, twenty states have already raised the legal age to buy cigarette to 21.

1. What can we learn about the new law for buying tobacco?
A.It’s good for the tobacco market.B.It also works for e-cigarette.
C.It aims to stop selling cigarette.D.It’ll be illegal to buy cigarette.
2. What does the underlined word “epidemic” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?

文章大意:本文是一篇应用文。作者通过这封信向亚历克莎传达了关于如何平衡学习、工作和社交生活的建议。
【推荐3】Dear Alexa,

The Irish poet Yeats said, “The intellect (才智出众者) of man is forced to choose: perfection of the life, or of the work.” He was wrong. You could have both.

You’re noticing that time spent on academic learning is time not spent with friends. That time cost will get worse as you get older, rounded with working, achievement-hunting or family responsibilities. Many achievers have woken up at age 50 or 70, only to wonder where all of their friends and soft memories were.

It is too easy to forget why we are trying to gain money and knowledge. It is for a life well-lived instead of money and knowledge themselves. Smart people make this stupid mistake all the time, in search for the means to an end so much that they forget the end altogether.

The trick is to see your day, not your life, as the place where you carry out your priorities. Every day there will be one more task you could do. Teach yourself to stop even though there’s more to do. Think of things you have missed out in your life and promise yourself you won’t do them again: “I won’t cancel on a friend’s birthday” or “I won’t speak to my family as though I’m the lead.”

Giving slightly less time to work doesn’t mean achieving less. I have been lucky to know some seriously achieving people in my life from Rhodes scholars to Nobel Prize and Pulitzer Prize winners. None of them are in their office at 11 p.m. flapping papers. If they were, they would not have such energy for their greatness.

You don’t have to choose between life and work since making time for one helps the other. But you have to make the time since how you plan your day is how you plan your life.

Eleanor Gordon-Smith
