A cancerstricken British teenager said Thursday she had been moved by messages of support from around the world after writing an online “Bucket List” of things she wanted to do before dying.
Alice Pyne, 15, created an Internet blog in which she described her fight against a cancer of the white blood cells. “I’ve been fighting cancer for almost four years, and now I know that the cancer is gaining on me and it doesn’t look like I’m going to win this one,” she wrote.
For her list, at the site: www.alicepyne.blogspot.com, she has included making everyone sign up to be a bone marrow donor (骨髓捐赠者), swimming with sharks, meeting boy band Take That and getting a purple iPad computer.
Messages of support and offers of help quickly flooded her webpage and it became one of the most talked about subjects on Twitter.
“Oh, dear and I thought that I was just doing a little blog for a few friends!” she wrote after her site attracted huge attention. “Thank you so much for all your lovely messages to me.”
Pyne, who lives with her family in the northwest English town of Ulverston, revealed (透露) the management of Take That had arranged for her to see the band after reading her blog. A group of local lawmakers have also joined forces with the Anthony blood cancer charity to encourage people to join its stem cell register.

This is an outbreak of disease that started in Wuhan, one of the central Chinese cities. It’s caused by a novel corona virus that means it’s brand-new.
What are the symptoms?
The virus is from a family called the corona viruses. The symptoms of this illness are pretty mundane (平凡的) on the face of it: it’s a dry cough fever and then breathing problems.
This brand-new corona virus came from animals, and it’s believed that the source was actually a seafood market in Wuhan, which also sells wild animals. So far all the cases have come out of Wuhan. But some people haven’t picked it up there.
Should I be panicking about this outbreak?
As we can see, older people are ending up in hospital with the virus. They’re usually over 40.
How is this virus transmitted?
We’ve only just discovered that the new corona virus is actually transmitted from one person to another. It was hoped at first actually that it just came from animals as all corona viruses do.

B.Where have cases been confirmed so far? |
C.So new that actually it doesn’t have a name yet. |

It may bring hate. It’s easy to say you don’t want anything in return, but the reality is that it’s hard going indefinitely if you get little reward. At least you deserve thanks and recognition.
It may bring exploitation(剥削). If you never express any needs, then it’s easy and convenient for other people to act as if you don’t have any.
It may bring self-criticism.
A.It may bring burnout |
B.It’s vital to spot the signs early |
C.It may result in serious diseases |

When someone we know gets the flu virus, we expect them to be very careful not to pass it on to others. Doctors and nurses working with flu patients also need to protect themselves from the virus. But what is the best way to do this? This is the question that flu expert Professor Jonathan Van-Tam at Nottingham University is trying to answer. He wants to find out how flu is transmitted, so that he can stop doctors and nurses getting sick.
Van-Tam explains their method, “There are 41 volunteers in my experiment. Some healthy volunteers are made to get flu first. When they show symptoms, other volunteers, usually called recipients (接受者), enter the house. Everyone lives together in the small space for four days. Some of the recipients wear face masks, and wash their hands every 15 minutes, but some have no protection. In this way we can study who catches the flu and which ways of transmitting flu are important. During the four days when they are in contact with the virus, and for the ten days after that, the flu recipients are checked regularly.”
The experiment is not simple and it is very expensive. It is difficult to design correctly, and it is also difficult to plan and carry out. Just one study like this takes about 18 months to organise and needs hundreds of people working on it. But Van-Tam believes it is worth because the results will help to decide what type of protection is needed for people working in hospitals with large numbers of flu patients around the world. And perhaps it could reduce the number of deaths from flu each year.

The project may harm the remains of temples and about 24 other ancient buildings. The illegal project is next to the Teotihuacan archeological area. Building anything new there is illegal. The owner of the land, however, has refused orders from Mexico’s antiquities organization INAH to slop for the past two months. Many Mexicans are angry that officials are failing to protect the ruins of Teotihuacan, a place visited every year by large numbers of people.
In late April, the INAH brought a report to the government. Federal officials charged the owner with “damage to archeological relics”. In recent weeks, the INAH recorded ongoing building in the area by 60 workers. That information came from Mexico’s Cultural Ministry.
Teotihuacan is about 50 kilometers northeast of Mexico City. It once was home to about 100,000 people who mostly lived in colorful stone houses.
People lived in that city at about the same time that Mayan culture had reached a high level to the south. But Teotihuacan is known for its own art and architecture. It grew rich for a period of 600 years until about 550 because of trading with other cities. It had an economy built on creating goods such as clothing and metal knives.
Officials have worked hard for years to stop illegal building. The building is often done at night and local government officials often arrive too late.
A tall wall surrounds the illegal building area. It is in what is believed to be one of the ancient city’ s oldest parts. A past archeological report said the area held at least three temples and 25 other ancient buildings.
Teotihuacan was named a world heritage (遗产) site by the United Nations cultural agency, UNESCO, in 1987. The naming requires government protection of the area.

“Growing up in my neighborhood, I could always feel the eyes, the looks and the cars slowing down as they passed by me, ” said Dromgoole, who was recently told to stay away from his job temporarily because of the epidemic (疫情) .
As a young man, Dromgoole watched from his window as the neighborhood gradually changed before his eyes: Black families moved out and white families moved in. With each passing year, he felt more and more unwelcome, he said.

Filled with fear, Dromgoole took to Facebook and Nextdoor, deciding to finally share his own post. “Yesterday, I wanted to walk around my neighborhood but the fear of not returning home to my family alive kept me on my front porch,” he wrote.
Unexpectedly, responses from his community started pouring in. Neighbors, none of whom Dromgoole had ever spoken with, asked if they could join him on a walk. “Neighbor, after neighbor, after neighbor started reaching out, telling me they wanted to walk with me,” he said.
Last Thursday afternoon, Dromgoole notified his neighbors that he was going for a walk at 6 p. m, and anyone who wanted to join him was welcome.

Student witnesses say Mark Black, who is also the wrestling coach, tried to confiscate(没收)a bag of marijuana and was then injured by the student with a pencil. The cell-phone video shows Black locking the student’s legs and pinning the student to the ground.“He just wanted him to stop and he was trying to be a teacher and help, and I don’t think it was his fault.” said student Kylan Townsend.

But in an email to parents, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Superintendent Sandra Lyon says the teacher’s behavior is “absolutely alarming” She put Black on leave during an independent investigation.
Lyon has come under fire from parents for initially saying the kind of physical action used by the teacher was unacceptable. On Saturday, Lyon released the following statement to Eyewitness News: “I want to stress that teachers are at times confronted with difficult, even threatening situations, and they must make judgment calls to protect safety.I want to emphasize that putting the teacher who was involved in this incident on leave until completion of an independent investigation is a matter of standard policy and practice; it in no way prejudices the outcome of the investigation.”
Students hope the situation will have a quick and just resolution. An online petition(请愿书) has also been created by one of Black’s former students. The petition has already gained thousands of signatures.
