John Smith was an old porter. He worked at the station. Every day he was busy     1    (carry) heavy things for the people. He was     2     (care) with his work. He was kind to everyone. He was always ready to help others.

The old porter looked at    8     (he) for a few seconds and said, “Well, sir. I’d like to help you,     9     I can’t answer your question because I don’t know how fast you can run.” Then he explained to the man, “The 10:35 train to London left five     10     (minute) ago. Can you run fast enough to catch it?”

Mary and her husband Dimitri lived a tiny village of Perachora. One of Mary's prize    1    (possess) was a little white lamb which her husband had given her, She kept it    2    (tie) to a tree in a field. One evening, however, the lamb was missing. The rope had been cut, so it was obvious that the lamb had been stolen.

When Dimitri came in from the fields, his wife told him    3    had happened. Dimitri at once set out to find the thief. After telling several of his friends about the theft, Dimitri found out that his neighbour, A1eko, had suddenly acquired a new lamb. Dimitri    4    (immediate) went to Aleko's house and angrily accused him    5    stealing the lamb. He told him he had better return it or he would call the police. Aleko    6    (deny) taking it and led Dimitri into his backyard. It was true that he had just bought a lamb, he explained, but his lamb was black.    7    (shame) of having acted so rashly, Dimitri apologized to A1eko for having accused him. While they were talking it began    8    (rain) and Dimitri stayed in A1eko's house until the rain stopped.    9    he went outside half an hour later, he was    10    (astonish) to find that the little black lamb was almost white. Its wool, which had been dyed black, had been washed clean by the rain!

Kattah and other disabled people have found a home once a month at an indoor skydiving center in Davie, US. Every     1    （two）Thursday of the month, it hosts a special event for 2.    2    （physical）challenged people,     3     which they can experience what it’s like     4    fly）.

The experience is safe and almost anyone of any age can participate. Few people emerge (出来) from the wind tunnel     5     a big smile on their face, and applause always erupts from the people     6    （sit）in the observation area.

“When you’re handicapped, you usually have to do things in     7    different way from everybody else,” he said. “Here, you’re doing what everybody else is doing. That’s     8    turned me on to it.”

This is also why Kattah has started sharing her experiences on a blog. She wants to send a message to people like her that even though they may find     9    （limit）restricted by their disability, there’s always something they can do that they never     10    （think） thought they’d be able to do.

The Small Friends Pet Shelter was started by a group of high school students and     1    (they) parents when they started to see many pets     2     were left behind after their families moved away.

Today, there are about 70 cats, 50 dogs, three rabbits, and a few     3    (turtle) living at the shelter. The young people who run the shelter     4    (work) hard to keep the place clean, take care of the animals, and advertise the animals so that they can     5    (adopt).

They have already     6    (help) to find homes for nearly 200 animals. It is hard work,     7     the young people working at the shelter think it is worth it.
