What kind of place do you usually choose to stay for the night during a trip? Expensive hotels that may make you feel like you don’t get what you pay for? Or cheap hotels that put you and five other strangers in the same bedroom? If both choices sound terrible to you, here’s something new: holiday apartments.
In a holiday apartment, you have more space than what a hotel room can give you. Everything in the apartment is at your disposal(处理,支配). The living room, the kitchen, the study, and, of course, the bedroom are all for you own use. Some apartments even have a lovely garden or a game room. You’ll feel at home in the holiday apartment. The best thing is, a holiday apartment is not expensive. The price for a holiday apartment is for two people, and the apartment is often cheaper than a hotel room for two. You only need to pay a little more for a third or fourth person. If you travel with friends or your family, a holiday apartment will be your best choice!
29. What is the passage mostly about?A.Where to find a nice holiday apartment |
B.How to choose an ice holiday apartment |
C.Why one should choose a holiday apartment |

A.like to take one-day trip | B.travel in a group of three or more |
C.want to make new friends when traveling | D.like to spend their holidays in the country |
A.You are free to use it | B.You can find it everywhere |

Five years ago, I worked for a few weeks as a doctor in a new dental clinic (牙医诊所) at Victor Harbour, to the south of Adelaide and an hour further away than my usual workplace. My first day there was a rush-driving to a new clinic and getting used to the clinical environment.
As it was all new to me, I took off my rings: my wedding ring, and one that was a gift from my husband. I put them in tissue (纸巾) and placed them beside my computer.
During my lunch break, I noticed the tissue and thought that it did not look very clean and threw it into the rubbish bin. I went about my work and my day went well; I met new patients and felt that I had been doing well at work.
Driving home at the end of the day, just moments before I reached my house, I noticed that my rings were missing. I felt heat in my body rise, my face burning red. I felt sick to my stomach.
I spent an hour or so making calls, trying to find my rings. The first people I called were my manager and clinical leader and they gave me a few phone numbers for cleaners. I got in touch with a lady who managed the cleaning service for the clinic, and she told me that the bins had already been collected.
I knew nothing could be done now. I had lost my rings. But after two hours or so, I received the most amazing phone call. The cleaner had gone through the bins and found my rings! I was so thankful to her who had taken the trouble to go through the bins—which is not a pleasant task—to find my priceless rings.
I worked at that clinic the following day, so I bought chocolates to thank this wonderful person. Unluckily, I did not get to meet her as she was not at work that day.
32. From the passage, we know the writer ________.A.had a serious stomachache | B.made mistakes during work |
C.threw her rings away carelessly | D.failed to finish her work in time |
A.Tiring and boring. | B.Busy but good. |
C.Disorganized but creative. | D.Relaxing and exciting. |
a. The writer received the most amazing phone call.
b. The writer bought chocolates to thank the cleaner.
c. The writer met new patients and did very well at work.
d The writer called her manager and clinical leader for help.

C.An act of kindness can mean a lot. | D.Where there is a will, there is a way. |
As Kasara and her brother, Darryl, walked to school, Kasara stopped to pick up a feather, and a few minutes later, a leaf from an oak tree.
“What are you doing, Kasara” Darryl asked.
“I’m collecting objects to create a collage (拼贴画),” Kasara explained
“What’s a collage?” Darryl asked.
“Collage is a kind of art in which you arrange (安排) a lot of different kinds of objects and scraps on a piece of paper or cardboard, and then you glue them in place,” Kasara explained. “What you get is a special collection of colours and textures. My class has made collages a couple of times already this year.”
“Other than feathers and leaves and scraps, what kinds of objects do you user?” Darryl asked.
“You can use just about anything you want. Caps of soda bottles, plastic packaging, old postage stamps, and greeting cards are something I’ve used, and this time, I’m also going to cut words and pictures out of old magazines and newspapers. You can even draw or paint on a collage if you want,” said Kasara.
“That sounds like fun. Can I make a collage too?” Darryl asked.
“Sure. We can work on it together after we finish our homework tonight,” answered Kasara.
During the rest of the walk to school, Darryl looked for objects he could use to create his collage, and he continued to look for more things as he walked home that afternoon.
He found a piece of string, some shiny, colourful paper, and even some bark from a tree.
Kasara laughed as she watched him. “You’re excited about this project, aren’t you?” she asked.
“Yeah! I have lots of ideas about how I want my collage to look,” Darryl said.
The children arrived at home and first did their homework. Then they gathered the art supplies they would need to make the collage, including scissors, glue, markers, and a stack of old magazines and newspapers. Both children placed on the table all the objects they had found during their walk, and then Kasara unrolled a large piece of poster board and cut it in half; half for herself and half for her brother.
“I like to arrange the objects before I glue anything down,” Karasa explained to Darryl. “That way. I can make changes if I want to, but once the object are glued on, the collage is pretty permanent.”
The children worked together for the rest of the evening. After a few hours, they had glued everything in place and set the collages aside for the glue to dry thoroughly. The next morning, they each went to check on their completed projects.
Darryl looked at his sister and grinned (露齿而笑) “You’re the art instructor (指导) of the family now. What will tomorrow’s art project be?” He asked. She Laughed and ruffled (弄乱) his hair.

Nowadays, stopping food waste is of great importance.
Over 30 percent of food goes to waste. Supermarkets throw away food that is not sold before its sell-by date, while families throw away food that they can't finish eating. In fact, it's hard for people to realize how much work goes into the food we eat every day. That makes food waste a big problem around the world.
As we throw food away, there are still 820 million people living in hunger around the world. And 3.1 million of them die from hunger each year. The COVID-19 pandemic (大流行) has made the situation even worse. With many countries no longer transporting (运输) food to other countries during this time, 10000 more children are dying of hunger each month.
To stop food waste, some people have come up with great ideas. Take a look for yourself.
Food bank
The world's first food bank was created in the US in 1967. People could donate extra food and also take the food home if they could not afford to buy any for themselves. In Shanghai, there is a "shared fridge" in some communities. It stores (储存) food that is donated by nearby markets and restaurants. It is free for anyone to take.
Pay as you like
A UK company called The Real Junk Food Project says that people still can eat food that has passed its sell-by date. They collect this food from supermarkets and sell it in cafes. You only have to pay as much as you feel is necessary.
If you don't want to spend money, you can volunteer at the cafes instead. There are now 125 Real Junk Food cafes worldwide. And the number is growing quickly.
Buy less
What else can we do to stop food waste? The answer is simply buying less food. There are millions of people around the world who still don't have enough to eat. We should be more careful about how we shop for food.
Share food that you cannot finish and waste less. Saving food can save us all.
