One day a teacher entered the classroom and gave the students a surprise test. He gave out the paper and asked his students to turn the page and begin. To everyone's surprise, there were no questions, just a black dot in the center of the page.

The teacher saw the expression on everyone’s face and said, "I want you to write what you see there. The confused students got started on the hard task. At the end of the class, the teacher took all the answer papers and started reading each one of them. All of them described the black dot and tried to explain where it was on the paper.

After all had been read, the classroom was quiet. The teacher began to explain, "I am not going to grade you according to this. I just wanted to give you something to think about. No one wrote about the white part of the paper. Everyone focused on the black dot (点). The same happens in our lives. We have a white paper to enjoy, but we always focus on the dark spots. Our life is a gift filled with love and care. We always have reasons to celebrate—friends that help us or jobs that support our lives."

"However, we keep focusing only on the dark spots, the health problems, the lack of money or the bad relationship with a family member. The dark spots are really annoying, but they are very small. Take your eyes away from the black spots in your life. Enjoy each moment that life gives you. Be happy and live a positive life!"

【推荐1】One of my favorite proverbs says, “Life is a test. It is only a test. If you face the life at ease (舒适自在), you will know where to go and what to do.” It reminds me not to take my life too seriously, and then I will have a more relaxing life.

Maybe you have many problems in your daily life. However, if you regard a problem as a test, you will get a chance to grow up. Whatever problem you have, just look at it as a test, and then you will always have a chance to succeed because it is a battle (战争) that you must win to save yourself. It is a time when you are probably in a very hard journey. The only time you are likely to be happy is when everything is working out just right.

Perhaps you have much pressure from your parents or a very strict teacher. Just face it. Rather than worrying about your problems, just ask yourself, “Why is it a problem in my life and what can I do to solve it?”

【推荐3】It was a usual morning. After snoozing (瞌睡) twice, I took care of my three cats, and then hurried to complete housework while drinking some coffee. Oh, my dear! I nearly forgot my mid-morning appointment. I raced out!

By the time I finished my appointment, I felt a little hungry. I stopped at Moe’s to order a pie to take home and eat while working.

Since it was a little before noon, there was a line of people. A woman, who I later learned was Marcella, was paying at the register (柜台). She asked the woman behind her in line if she would like a drink and then asked me. We both said no, and must have looked confused (困惑的), because she said, ‘I got you.’ She continued to pay for both of our meals – even though we were strangers.

I asked Marcella why she did this, and she shared that someone once did something similar for her. The person asked that she might pay it forward some day and she was making good on her promise.

Before leaving, she gave me a warm hug (拥抱) and asked me to do an act of kindness for a stranger when I could. I nodded. I arrived home, but instead of working through lunch, I sat and kept thinking of her kindness.

Marcella didn’t need to pay for my lunch. But she did, and it brightened my day. Not because I got to keep my $15, but because she was kind – and did not want to receive anything in return.

I’ll make a small difference in someone else’s life, and the ripple effect (连锁反应) will continue. Because that’s what being human is all about – being kind – even to a stranger.
