Proms are a big part of high school for students in the UK. A school prom is a formal party to celebrate an important date at school, such as the end of secondary school or completing school exams. A secondary school prom often includes a big party and beautiful clothing.

Prom parties

Proms are usually held in June, around the end of exam time. The idea is to have fun with your school friends. Some schools hold a luxury party in a five-star hotel while others only have a more basic dinner in the school itself. Prom organizers always provide everything for the special event, such as balloons, food and music.

Clothes and beauty

Young people like to dress up for their prom. At prom night, girls change their school clothes for a beautiful evening dress. Boys usually dress up in a suit with a tie and smart shoes. The suitable hairstyle is important too. It is not difficult to find all the beauty shops are having a busy time on the prom night. Some beauty shops offer a special prom service which includes hair and clothes.

Driving to parties

Arriving at your prom by a chauffeur-driven limousine is very popular! The party can start on the way to the dinner or dance. Part of the fun for some prom-goers is to drive around town in their best clothes and make sure that everyone sees them.

An American tradition

Not long ago, most British schools didn’t have school proms. They had a simple school dance at the end of term. Now, more than 85% schools in Britain have a prom. 【推荐3】When the bell rings, every student takes out an iPad. The light from the screens makes their young faces pretty and lively. That's what happens every day at my school in the US. We use iPads in class.

I felt excited when I got an iPad the first day I arrived at the school. But it was not free. I spent about $100 renting(租) it for three years.

Every iPad at my school has a special learning system called Focus. Teachers put their teaching materials like textbooks and PPTs on it. When we have classes, we enter Focus and download(下载) the materials with our iPads.

It makes the classes interesting and efficient(高效的). For example, a few weeks ago, we learned about London in the UK. Our teacher prepared a video, we saw many places of interest in London in it. We could not only watch the video, but also see the words at the same time. Because of the video, I know more about the city.

We also do our homework with iPads. We can know how well we do our homework right after we hand in our homework.

However, there are still some bad points about learning with iPads. Some of my classmates play games in class.
