“You’re going to help the animals at a local shelter find homes. Just imagine: if they could talk or write, what would they say? Please write letters for them to introduce them to their potential(潜在的) adopters (收养者)!”
Kensey Jones is a second-grade teacher at a primary school in Virginia, U.S.A. One day, she assigned(布置) this writing topic to her students.
To help them with their writing, Kensey brought a puppy named Snow from the shelter to school. The students played with Snow and learned about how the shelter worked. This experience inspired(启发) them to create lovely paintings and letters for 23 dogs and a cat. These pieces were later hung on the cages of the animals.
One of the letters reads, “Hello, my name is Sunday Special. I am a puppy. I would love to be adopted. If you do adopt me, I hope I will brighten up your Sundays like the SUN! You’ll be my Sunday Special, and I hope I’ll be yours!”
The warm words on these letters touched the hearts of potential animal adopters. All 24 of these animals found new homes before long. “I’m so glad to have helped them find great homes,” said one kid.

Every day on Amelia’s way to work she had to pass a slum(贫民窟). Though she was a social worker, she had never paid much attention to it.
This changed when she met a boy named Jack. Jack knew that she was the head of social services, and was sure she could help.
He reached out his hand to touch her, and said, “Can you help me? I’m looking hard for my dad. ”
His hands were so cold that Amelia could not help holding them. She said, “What’s up?”
“My mom is sick and too weak to get up. Her birthday is coming. I know my father’s coming back would be the best present. We really love him, and need him. ”
“So what’s his name? What does he do?” Amelia asked.
He said, “I’ve no idea. My mama said he had left us before I was two years old.”
Amelia was deeply moved and said, “Take me to your home, son.”
He led her to a small house. Looking around, there was nothing in it except for a small bed. A woman was lying on it. And as Amelia saw her, she knew her life was near its end. The woman said to Amelia, “Please find a home for my son. Please don’t leave him alone in the world.”
With tears running from her eyes, Amelia took her hand and said, “I will take care of him and love him as my own son.” In fact, since her husband and she had no child, they had been wanting a child for a long time.
Even since Amelia took Jack into her home, life is full of joy and laughter. She got the best present in return for her kindness.

Genesis Butler has been vegan (素食主义者) since she was 6. Now 15, her dream is to protect animals and the environment, and she has been encouraging other kids to join her.
“When I first became a vegan, I knew animals were killed to produce our food and felt sorry about it. Then I found out how eating too many animals was also bad for our planet. I wanted more people to know that when they’re eating animal products, they’re making a choice that influence how the future will be for everyone,” she said.
To spread her ideas, Genesis presented for the TED program at age 10, becoming one of the youngest TED speakers ever.
In 2020, Genesis started her own nonprofit organization (非营利性组织), Genesis for Animals. And it raises money to support animal sanctuaries (收容所) around the world. She also led Youth Climate Save, a campaign (运动) that asks people to buy fewer animal products. “It’s important that kids speak up, because it shows they’re really worried about their future,” said Genesis.
“A lot of young people are thinking, ‘What can I do about climate (气候) change?’ I started Youth Climate Save because there were kids who needed support to become activists and get the word out there.”
Genesis has a strong feeling of wanting to save the environment. Marvel (漫威) discovers that she is the hero they are looking for. She is now a member of Marvel’s Hero Project. Her story will be made into a movie and shown on Disney. It shows how a young hero can work to make a difference in the world.

Growing up in a village in Sichuan, 26-year-old Zheng Huan has a deep love for nature. “Sunshine, fresh air, water, all kinds of plants and animals. They are the most valuable things on our planet. However, without a price tag (价签) on them, not many people have realized this,” Zheng said. “What’s more, climate (气候) change is influencing the environment around us.”
Zheng decided to make a change. She set up an organization. They work with game companies, artists and programmers and make climate change a thing that can be seen, felt and dealt with.
Zheng has been working on a game called Guardians of Earth. Players take pictures of different things in nature to get points. One teenager said, “The game has changed my ideas toward plants and animals. They have all become alive and meaningful to me because now I know them.”
Another project is digital(数字的)artworks about climate change. She invited artists to create pieces based on the book AI 2041 which talks about how AI will influence the environment in the future. “Paintings are a direct form of art and online paintings can reach more people in a shorter time,” Zheng said. “I want to communicate climate change in beautiful and lively ways to increase people’s understanding of nature,” she added.
Zheng’s work has gotten wide attention and praises. She has been taking part in the United Nations Climate Change Conference since 2016. “I hope one day climate change will become old ideas—like something that is rooted in people’s hearts,” she once said.
