2 . This is a story of a man who works in my factory. I have seen him for years, but I didn’t know him very well. He was a little bit weird (怪异的). He always wore an old red hat and carried a rubbish bag. He seemed to have no friend, and was always alone. He usually spent his break time and his lunchtime walking around in the factory and collecting used tins (金属罐). Maybe he was too poor, I guess. But I didn’t care much about him.

One day, I was fixing one of the broken machines in the factory when this “tin man” came with his bag. As usual, he picked up the tins, which were all around the place. My manager was standing there, watching me.

When I finished my job, I heard my manager ask the “tin man” about what he was going to do with those tins he had collected. I never even thought about this kind of question, because I always assumed that “tin man” would take those tins to the recycling center.

Unexpectedly, the “tin man” answered, “I will give these tins to my neighbor. He has been ill for many years and cannot work. He is too poor to buy daily bread now.”

I was so shocked to hear that, so I asked him, “You mean you collect all those tins just to help your neighbor?”

“I know this does not help much,” he said. “But I give everything to him, because he cannot work. He needs help.”

It was the most beautiful moment in my life. We are all able to help others no matter we are rich or poor. It has made me feel humble (谦卑的) every day since then.

Jackson was driving back home along a road one evening.     1     It was winter and it was very cold, just like his feelings.

An old lady with her car was standing on one side of the road.     2     The lady looked scared even when he put a smile on his face. Was he going to hurt her? He didn’t look like a good man and he looked poor and hungry.

Jackson knew how she felt. He said, “    3     Why don’t you wait in my car? By the way, my name is Jackson.”

The lady thought for a while and then went into his car.     4     Jackson went under her car to repair it. When he finished, he got dirty and his hands hurt. Then the lady told him that her name was Annie. She asked Jackson how much she should pay for his help.

Jackson never thought about getting money. This was not a job for him.     5     He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone in need, she should give that person.

8 . I’m Jacie and I’m 15 years old. I help at a dog shelter (收容所). This is what I do at the shelter every day.

5:30 p.m.

I get to the shelter. I say hi to the dogs.

5:45 p.m.

The first thing I do, after saying hi to the animals, is clean their living areas. It’s not my favorite job, but I’m happy to do anything to help the animals.

6:00 p.m.

I take some dogs out to an outside area. This is a place for them to get some exercise. They also get some snacks. After a few minutes, I take them back to their living areas and take another group of dogs out.

7:00 p.m.

After the exercise, it’s time to eat dinner. Well, not for me! I give food and water to all the dogs.

7:30 p.m.

I make sure all of the dogs are back in their living areas and then I go home. The dogs are very good animals and I hope they will find homes soon. If you love dogs, why not take one home?

The 79-year-old woman goes there almost every day. “The cafeteria is near my home. And the food is not expensive.” Chen said.

The cafeteria started up in September, 2022 and has served more than 17,000 people. There are three dishes and a bowl of soup for each meal. It costs only 10 yuan for old people aged 60 above. “We welcome old people to our cafeteria. There are some volunteers working here. They can help take meals to disabled people’s homes.” the manager (经理) of the cafeteria said.

There are also some interesting activities for old people in the cafeteria, such as Chinese calligraphy (书法) and painting. They make the old people’s life colorful. There are 528 such cafeteria in Fuzhou. They are quite convenient (方便的) for the old people.
