US students who play these sports usually take them quite seriously. Be a good listener.
We often miss chances to make someone’s day simply by listening to them carefully. When someone wants to talk to you, give him your whole attention and let him know you hear what he is saying. This is one of the best ways to make people feel good.
Pass joy on to more people.

Earth Hour is an unusual event which asks people to turn off all lights and not to use the power for an hour. The aim is to let people think about the planet we live on and energy we use.
Earth Hour encourages people around the world to turn off the power at the same time for one hour. It started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million people and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights off for one hour to take a stand against climate change. Only a year later, Earth Hour had become a global event with more than 50 million people across 35 countries taking part in it. Global landmarks such as the Sydney Harbor Bridge, CN Tower in Toronto, Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Tome’s Colosseum, all stood in darkness for Earth Hour.
Earth Hour is organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). WWF wanted to ask people to do something good to help the planet. Turning off the lights for an hour can make a small difference to the amount of energy we use. But Earth Hour is also a symbolic(象征性的) event to make people think about the problems of climate changes.
Earth Hour is at 8: 30 p.m. on the last Saturday in March. Why March? The end of March is around the time of spring and autumn equinoxes(昼夜平分点), in the northern and southern hemispheres(半球), so the sunset time in both hemispheres is at similar times. 4 . In the Americas, Asia, and Africa there’s a special kind of forest called the cloud forest. Cloud forests can be found in the clouds on the mountains.
Like rainforests, cloud forests experience rainfall, but they also catch water straight from the air. Water condenses (凝结), you’ll hear the drop of water, even if it’s not raining. The water caught is clear and unpolluted (流动) through the ground into rivers.
Some people call cloud forests water towers, because they are so important in providing water for nearby villages and cities. But it’s not just humans who depend on cloud forests. They are also home to a lot of animals and plants.

On a hot day, many people like to go to the beach. Some beaches, however, are not safe for swimming. There are sharks(鲨鱼) in the water.
Shark Nets(网)

According to a report, tons of food is wasted each year, largely because people don’t fully understand what use-by dates actually mean and they think the food is not safe to eat.
Use-by dates were introduced in 1975 because customers wanted more information about the things that they were eating. When they first showed up, use-by dates only showed freshness because producers wanted their products to be tasted in their best conditions.
However, most customers mistakenly believed that use-by dates showed how safe the food was. But the truth is that these dates aren’t related to the danger of food poisoning(中毒). Eggs, for example, can still be eaten three to five weeks after being bought, even though the use-by date is much earlier. When their use-by dates pass, cookies may lose their delicious taste, but they are not harmful.
“It’s an unclear subject, the difference between food quality and food safety,” said Jena Roberts from a US food testing company. Even workers in the food factory are not sure about it. This is why the use-by dates must be printed on the covers of products. “We hope it can help customers understand the information so that they won’t waste a lot of food.”
But this won’t be a mistake that is easy to correct, because people have believed it for so long. As a result, food factory officials are now thinking about turning the use-by date into a date which can show when food is most likely to be thrown away.

In 1827, a Frenchman named Niepce needed pictures for his business. But he was not good at art. So he invented a camera which was very simple, and put it in a window in his house. He took a picture of his garden, and this became the first successful photograph.
The next important development in the history of photography was in the early 1830s. At that time a new kind of camera was invented. The man who invented it was Daguerre, also French. He took a picture of his reading room. In his picture, you could see everything very clearly, even the smallest things.
