文章大意:本文主要介绍了帮助学习英语的三个助记术。

1 . Many teachers suggest learning English by using mnemonics (助记术). Mnemonics are methods to help remember information.

The loci (轨迹) method

This method is very useful for remembering lists of words. First, you need to form a path (路线). Next, looking at the words, you will create a picture that isn’t easy to forget for each word. Then, imagine walking down your path and put the pictures at certain places. Finally, put away the words and move along the path in your mind again.

The connection method

To remember a word, it is helpful to connect it with a picture. For example, if you are trying to remember the meaning of the word “tremendous”, you might connect it with trees and men. Say the word “tremendous”, and you hear “tree” and “men”. This connection of meaning, sound and picture can help you remember new words quickly.

The grouping method

Try to remember the following words: pencil, notebook, book, newspaper, pen, paper. Try dividing them into smaller groups (things you write with; things you write on; things you read). And you’ll probably find that you are able to remember more words.

What these three methods have in common is the idea of active learning. We’ve looked at just a few mnemonics. In the end, it really depends on your own learning style and how you keep information. Why not find the one that works best for you?

1. How many steps do you need to remember words by using the loci method?
A.Two.B.Three.C.Four.D.Five.
2. When remembering a word, you can connect the word with its meaning, sound and _________.
A.pictureB.influenceC.sentenceD.background
3. You can remember more words by _________ from the passage.
A.making word cards
B.dividing them into small groups
C.working with groups
D.looking up words in the dictionary
4. In which part of a magazine can we probably find the text?
A.Art.B.Health.C.Study.D.Medicine.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲了如何成为一名好的失败者。

2 . Nobody wants to lose, but we must accept that losing is a part of life. After all, we can’t win all the time. However, we can learn something valuable from every failure (失败). This may help us succeed in the future. So we must know how to be a good loser.

We should not be afraid of losing. When we lose, just take it with a smile and look on the bright side of it. Failure can’t be avoided in our life. Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb (灯泡). When he was asked how he felt, he said that he hadn’t failed 10,000 times but had learned 10,000 things which didn’t work. We must know that history is full of examples of men and women who achieved success although they failed many times.

Losing is not very disgraceful. We must accept our failure. Remember that it can be helpful. Take action to walk out of it. When we lose, think about what we did and how we can improve. If someone else can help, we’ll be lucky enough. Maybe he or she has been through the same experience before. Many people enjoy helping others solve problems. This can save us a lot of time in learning how to avoid the same mistakes in the future.

In a word, being a good loser will help us to succeed in life. It might be painful at the beginning, but there are many advantages. Good losers set examples to us, and most importantly, they finally win.

1. What can we learn from every failure according to the text?
A.A way of life.B.A valuable thing.
C.A general rule.D.A secret of success.
2. In the writer’s eyes, why did Edison achieve success?
A.He got help from others.B.He happened to make it.
C.He avoided possible mistakes.D.He saw the bright side of losing.
3. What does the underlined word “disgraceful” probably mean?
A.Bad.B.Personal.C.Dangerous.D.Interesting.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.Ideas about How to Avoid Mistakes.B.Experience in Dealing with Problem
C.Advice on How to Be a Good Loser.D.Advantages of both Success and Failure.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了中国人招待客人的礼仪。

3 . China is a nation of etiquette (礼仪). Chinese people are among the most hospitable (好客的) people in the world. If foreigners visit a Chinese family, they would be surprised at the warmth that they would receive as guests.

When you visit a Chinese family, the host usually makes tea for you. Then he will serve you snacks like biscuits or candy. Someone in the family will also chat with you, never letting you feel lonely.

At the same time, other family members will prepare a meal for you. Chinese people treat their guests with a big meal. They always present more food than the guests can eat. And the guests must be the first to eat. Perhaps one of the things that surprise Western guests most is that the Chinese host likes to pick up food for visitors, which won’t happen at Western tables. The Chinese family go out of their way to make you feel at home. As you finish eating, the host usually says, “It seems that you didn’t eat much. Please have more. ”Although you tell them you are full, they still put more food in your bowl.

Being warm and hospitable has long been an important part of Chinese culture and tradition. As Confucius (孔子) said thousands of years ago, “To meet friends from afar, how happy we are!”

A.coffee and candyB.juice and hamburgers
C.tea and biscuitsD.milk and bread

文章大意:本文主要讲了成功的两个公式,重点强调了持久的行动在实现梦想中的关键作用。

4 . Each of us has dreams and goals for our future. What makes us study and made progress each day is closely connected with our personal dream and goal.

But why do you have dreams and goals, you still end up with nothing? What separates(区分)successful people from dreamers is their persistent(锲而不舍的)action. When you learn your lessons at school, you must work hard and not give up. You will often find some of your lessons very hard. Try and keep trying. And you’ll be sure to successfully deal with any difficulty you meet with. If we have a hard lesson today, let us try our best to learn it well and then we shall be prepared for a harder one tomorrow.

This is the famous formula(公式)for success:

Dream→Believe→Achieve

Most people have what they want(Dream)and think they can realize their dreams(Believe). And then they do nothing. They just imagine their dreams can come true. When they get tired of waiting and lose a lot, they say angrily how terrible their life is.

I personally believe that if you really want to achieve your dreams and goals in life, you have to add one thing to your success formula:

Dream→Believe→Act→Achieve

For me, act is the most important thing for success and that’s to Take Persistent Action(Act). If you say“I can’t do it” and give up, you can never do anything valuable(有价值的). However, “I’ll try” creates wonders. Let’s remember that there will be obstacles in our life. We must face them bravely and solve them. Success is not something that falls from the sky. Most successful people made their dreams come true because of their persistent action.

Please remember: Action is the bridge that connects our dreams and goals to reality.

1. What do you need to do when you find your lessons very hard?
A.To ask other people for help.B.To try my best to learn them well.
C.To keep trying another one.D.To get ready for a harder one.
2. Which does the writer add to the famous formula?
A.Act.B.Achieve.C.Connect.D.Create.
3. What does the underlined word “obstacles” probably mean in the passage?
A.Dangers.B.Mistakes.C.Choices.D.Problems.
4. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Keeping on Doing Something Valuable
B.Studying Hard and Making Great Progress
C.Realizing Dreams with Persistent Action
D.Separating Successful People from Dreamers

5 .

It seems that food deliverymen are always in a rush. They wear blue, red or yellow helmets(头盔)and many of them don’t follow traffic rules. They drive on the wrong side of the road and run red lights. They use mobile phones while driving.

However, not everything goes well with food deliverymen. In the first half of last year, food deliverymen had 76 traffic accidents in Shanghai. That means every two and a half days, a food deliveryman will die or get hurt on the road.

What makes deliverymen take such risks? The strict rules of the food delivery service companies and the anxious customers(焦虑的顾客)may be the answer. Many companies will fine(罚款)a deliveryman up to 2,000 yuan if he fails to deliver an order on time, reported by China Daily. Fines also go to those who get bad reviews(评价)from customers.

To solve the problem, food delivery service companies need to improve their incentive systems(激励制度), noted CRI Online. Some cities are also taking action. Shanghai has asked companies to train their deliverymen on traffic rules and safety. Now in Shenzhen, if a deliveryman gets caught breaking traffic rules more than twice, then he will be banned(禁止)from driving food service delivery vehicles(车辆)for a whole year.

3. If a food deliveryman ________, the company will fine him.
A.delivers an order on timeB.drive on the wrong side of the road
C.runs red lights while drivingD.gets bad reviews from his customers

A.It’s important for food deliverymen to deliver food on time.

C.It’s dangerous for food deliverymen to get caught more than twice.
D.It’s impossible for food deliverymen to drive for a whole year.

Congratulations! You’ll enter a new high school. Are you ready for the future life? Here is some advice for a new senior high school student.

Be a positive(乐观的)person

Positive attitudes(态度)can make you full of energy. Do remember to encourage yourself when you’re down. You can keep your old friends close and make new friends with the students who make your life better and happier.

Make a plan

You might have more difficult courses but high school teachers won’t take care of you like in junior high. Mostly, you have to learn by yourself. Getting enough sleep and exercising more are both important. You need to manage your time wisely. You’d better make a time plan or a calendar can help.

Be responsible for yourself

There is always someone smarter, richer or better-looking than you. I hope that you only pay attention to your own work. Please find out your goals and make them clear. Then stick to your goals and be responsible for the results.

Help other students

Not everyone is going to be nice to you. But you should give him a hand when you find someone is in trouble. Giving makes each other closer and makes you more popular.

It’s also home to about 4 million people, a group of whom are Inuit. Jim is an Inuit boy. At 6:30 am, he wakes up and gets ready to go to school in his fur (毛皮)coat. It keeps him warm in the freezing weather. Half an hour later, he gets to school on a ski or snowmobile. Some of his friends go by car instead. At 11:30 am, it’s time for lunch. There’s fish and other meat in his lunchbox. He sometimes eats them uncooked. These foods give him enough energy. Besides local food, some people eat Western food. At 5:00 pm, the snow outside makes everything bright, so he wears snow goggles on his way back home, or his eyes may be hurt badly by the strong light. From December to March, the sun never rises. However, it always shines in the sky during the summer. At 10:00 pm, he goes to bed. Sometimes he stays in an ice house called igloo. It looks cold but it’s warm inside. Many local people live in houses made of wood.

The Inuit mainly make a living by hunting and fishing. Now, their life is greatly influenced by climate (气候) change. For example, many animals they hunt for food are disappearing. There is less food for the reindeer they keep, too. They face more terrible weather, such as snowstorms. Hunting becomes more dangerous. Hunters may accidentally fall into water if the ice becomes too thin. Actually, the temperature in the Arctic is 18℃ higher than it was 125 years ago. All Arctic ice may disappear during the summer in less than 100 years.

What do you want to be when you grow up? Would you rather be a scientist or an artist? If you have siblings(兄弟姐妹), the order in which you were born may influence your choice of jobs, The Independent reported. Family roles based on birth order can influence people’s behavior and shape their personalities.

A group of British scientists studied 500 people from 11 different career(事业)groups. They found that older children are more likely to become astronauts and scientists. NASA astronaut Neil Armstrong and British scientist Stephen Hawking are both the oldest children in their families. The reason is probably that parents usually treat older children more strictly than younger children. This gives the older children a more disciplined(遵守纪律的)personality.

The scientists also found that middle children are 30 percent more likely to become CEOs than their brothers and sisters. The scientists said the reason could be that middle children need to do more to get attention from their parents. This makes them more competitive, more flexible(灵活变通的)and better at negotiating(谈判). Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, and Bill Gates, former CEO of Microsoft, are both middle children.

Younger children, on the other hand, may be the “softest”. They learn to pay attention to other people’s thoughts. This makes them sensitive to others’ feelings. Therefore, younger children are more likely to become musicians. German musician Johann Sebastian Bach and Austrian composer(作曲家)Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart are both the youngest children in their families.

The results of the study also suggested that the only children are more likely to become artists. They get full attention from their parents and are freer to develop themselves. This makes them more creative and confident.

2. What are middle children usually like?

文章大意:本文主要介绍了设立目标的重要性。

9 . Why is setting goals important? Because goals can help you do, be and experience everything you want in life. Instead of just letting life happen to you, goals allow you to make your life happen.

Successful people in life imagine how their life should be and set lots of goals. By setting goals you are taking control of your life. It’s like having a map to show you where you want to go. Think of it this way. There are two drivers. One has a destination(目的地)in mind which can be found on a map. She can drive straight there without wasting time or making wrong turns. The other driver has no destination on the map. She starts off at the same time from the same place as the first driver, but she drives aimlessly(漫无目的地)around, never getting anywhere, just using up gas. Which driver do you want to be?

Winners in life set goals and follow them through. They decide what they want in life and then get there by making plans and setting goals. Unsuccessful people just let life happen by accident. Goals aren’t difficult to set, and they aren’t difficult to reach. It’s up to you to find out what your goals really are. You are the one who must decide what to achieve and in what direction to aim your life.

Research tells us that ________. Written goals can be reviewed regularly, and have more power. Like contracts(契约)with yourself they are harder to forget. Also when you write your goals in particular way, you are able to make yourself continuously(连续不断地)aware(意识到)of situations that will bring you nearer to your goals.

B.To explain the importance of their jobs.

2. A driver who has a destination in mind will ________ probably.
A.waste timeB.make wrong turns

Someone who is born today can expect to live about thirty-five years longer than someone who was born in the nineteenth century. It is even thought that in the future more and more people will celebrate their 100th birthdays. Here are some rules for a healthy life.

Get off the sofa!

Sure, it is comfortable to sit on the sofa and watch TV. But doctors say you should get off the sofa. To keep fit, you have to walk at least 10,000 steps every day. Eat healthy food!

It is important to eat food that is fresh and natural, for example, fruit and vegetables. Fast food is not healthy. You should only have it once in a while. Eating too much of the wrong food will harm your health.

Rest while you can!

When we were babies, we slept for much of the night. Teenagers don’t need as much sleep as babies, but it is important for you to get about eight hours’ sleep a night. At weekends, you have got more time, so use it not just for your friends, but for rest too.
