2 . Every year, schools across Britain support Anti-Bullying (反霸凌) Week. The week is to help children and adults learn more about bullying and how to stop bullying from happening. It starts on Monday 13th November and ends on Friday 17th November in 2023.
Bullying is when someone tries to hurt you over and over again. Bullying can hurt your feelings or your body. Bullying can also happen when playing outside after school or online.
Each year, Anti-Bullying Week has a different theme (主题). The theme this year is “Make A Noise About Bullying”, which tells us the importance of talking about bullying and not staying silent if we hear, see, or are being bullied now. It is important to talk about bullying instead of staying silent.
It is important to have discussion about what bullying means and what can be done to stop it. These small actions can help break the cycle of bullying. Small actions make a big difference and help make the change to end bullying. Let’s take actions now!

Most of Greenland (格陵兰岛) is white because it’s covered with snow and ice, which is different from what its called. A special canyon (峡谷) was found there.
In 2013, a group of scientists was studying the environment in Greenland. They were using special tools to look for the rocks deep below the ice.
The canyon runs for at least 750 kilometers and is 800 meters deep. It is longer than any other canyon on Earth and is nearly as deep as the Grand Canyon in the United States.
How was Greenland’s Grand Canyon formed? There are two possible ways. The first is that the canyon was formed by huge ice. When ice slowly moved across the land, it cut its surface and created deep holes.
The discovery of Greenland’s icy Grand Canyon is quite surprising. The canyon also helps scientists understand the history of Greenland.

What do you think of celebrating Christmas Day in China? Christmas Day is very popular in China, especially for young people. Should Chinese people celebrate Christmas Day? 60% people think that we should not take Christmas so seriously, 10% think everyone should celebrate Christmas.
Some people think celebrating Christmas Day can help them understand western culture better. Some people think it is a great holiday to have a good time with their families and friends. During Christmas Day, they can meet friends, go shopping, watch movies and go to different parties.
But I have different ideas. China has its own holidays, such as the Spring Festival, Double Ninth Festival and Mid-Autumn Day, so we don’t have to celebrate holidays from other countries. Some people spend a lot of money celebrating Christmas Day. People buy lots of gifts for their friends and families, but this is not the best way to show their love.

3. What’s the writer’s opinion about celebrating Christmas Day?

8 . It has been two months since Richard Watson placed 200 special transmitters (信号发射机) for his cows. They are parts of an AI system named Ida. This AI system can send messages to Watson’s phone when his cows are healthy or when they are not feeling well. It can tell how many animals are sick to the dairy farmers (奶农) and also help them pick out the sick animals.
With the AI system, farmers can get the information from their phones instead of going to the farms to check animals every day. So this AI system can help people spend their free time doing other things. Many dairy farmers are interested in Ida. Watson is one of them. On a common morning in March, he took out his phone to check his Ida App. It showed that Cows #97800 and #97782 were eating less. This might mean that there was something wrong with them.
However, some farmers say, “I can find out the sick cow just by looking at her eyes.” Mark Rodgers is a neighbor of Watson’s. He said, “This is what I can do by myself. My experience can help me look after them better. Technology isn’t useful.”
Ida was developed by Yasir Khokhar, the boss of the company. He said he came up with the idea while he was living on a farm in Holland. The system can record cow’s behaviors by studying videos of them. The company is still trying to improve this technology to provide much more convenience for farmers.

What would life be like if you were a rock singer, a football player, a university professor (教授) or a Nobel Prize winner? Carolyn Bertozzi from the US lives such a cool life!
Bertozzi won the prize for studying the sugar coats of cells (细胞糖衣). She has created a smart way to connect cells by connecting their sugar coats. The cells then have a green color so that scientists can see clearly where they are and how they move. This finding offered a foundation (基础) for different fields of applications (应用), such as developing better tests for infectious diseases (传染病) and new treatments for cancer.
Though Bertozzi had made great achievements, she said she was not very interested in chemistry until her second year at university. She remembered that her university professors made the class very difficult on purpose and her classmates complained (抱怨) a lot. However, it matched her brain.
In addition to doing science studies, Bertozzi has lived a colorful life. She was a keyboarder in a band. She also played football and won a sports scholarship (体育奖学金).
As a female scientist, Bertozzi tries to advance gender equality (性别平等). In the late 1980s, only 10 percent of the students at university were female. There were maybe one or two women in a lab, so she tried to start a monthly get-together for all the women students in the department to give them support.
1. Why did Bertozzi win the Nobel Prize?A.Because she is a woman with high-intelligence: and different hobbies. |
B.Because she is a university professor and famous at home and abroad. |
C.Because she found a way to connect cells and make them clearer to see. |
D.Because she invented a new treatment for infectious diseases and cancer. |
