1 . In the school, there are three kinds of bullies (恃强凌弱者): those who call you bad names, those who hit you for fun and those who ask you for money.

If there’s a bully calling you bad names, you’d better tell your friends. If you always stay with your friends, they won’t come near to you. If a bully wants to hit you, run away from him/her!

Some young students want to make a team to fight bullies. But that is not a good idea. And it’s very dangerous. You may get hurt. So it’s best to run away from them. If you are strong enough, you can stop a bully by yourself. But remember to use your head, not only your hands. If you’re not strong enough, you should tell your friends, teachers or your parents.

Bullies usually hurt young students on their way to school or home. You’d better stay with your friends, so they will not have a chance to hurt you.

Thanks to modern transportation (交通工具) such as planes and trains, you can get things from different parts of China. You can travel far and fast.

But what was life like in ancient times without modern transportation? About 2,500 years ago, Chinese people used the Grand Canal (大运河) to travel and carry things.

The canal was built from the Spring andAutumn Period (春秋时期). It is nearly 3,200 kilometers long. In the world, it is the longest man-made waterway and runs from Beijing in the north to Zhejiang in the south. With the canal, people in ancient China carried things more easily than by using horses and cows or traveling on foot.

Today, half of the canal is still making a difference to our life. To remember the canal, the United Nations issued (发行) a stamp of it on August 25th, 2021. It will let more people learn about the great waterway of China.

What will life be like in the future? Let’s just close our eyes and think. Computers will be able to show their feelings. The computer may think better than the human mind. We will spend more time in front of computers and forget what our real needs are. Many of us may become overweight (超重)!

We will have very small robots and we can use them when we are sick. For example, when you have a stomachache, you will swallow (吞服) a very small robot and it will travel through your stomach, taking video of what’s happening there. The video will help the doctor to find out your problems quickly. Genetic engineering (基因工程) will probably make the human perfect. Babies may grow up to be as tall as Yao Ming or as beautiful as Liu Yifei. Do you agree?

5 . The “Great Green Wall of China” project is over forty years old. In this project, people plant trees in Northern China. Why are trees so important to us? Because it is healthy to live around trees. They can keep us healthy, just like doctors. So we call them “doctor trees”.

Trees can clean the air. For people in large cities with air pollution, trees can be very important. Workers are planting trees not just in city parks. They are also planting trees along streets to help clean the air.

Some scientists think that trees not just help clean the air. They are also good for our health. A study shows that people in hospitals feel better when they can see trees from their rooms. And people with trees near their homes usually exercise more.

Scientists are also studying the healthy effects （作用） of trees on human minds. One effect of trees is that they make people feel happy and relaxed. When people go through the neighborhood with more trees, they will walk slower and talk more often with each other.

Of course, another good effect is that “doctor trees” work for free!

6 . Many people like to watch TV. It is one of the important activities of a day. TV brings the outside world closer to people’s homes. Some people say the world is now smaller than before because of TV. Perhaps they are right.

What’s going on in other countries? What’s the life like in the deepest parts of the sea? Well, just turn on the TV. Turn it on and watch. You can see a lot and you can learn a lot. Of course, people can also learn through reading or listening to the radio. But with TV they learn better and more easily. Why? Because they can hear and watch, too. TV helps to open our eyes. TV also helps to open our minds. TV often gives us new ideas. We learn newer and better ways of doing things.

In America, most students go to school by school bus. The school buses are yellow. Students like to take the school bus because it’s convenient(便利的) . The school bus takes the students right lo school. And they can talk with their friends on the bus.

In America, some students like walking to school. If students don’t live far from the school, they usually walk to school. It’s good exercise, too. But it’s not fun if there are too many books in their school bags. When the weather is bad, they go to school by bus or by subway.

Most students don’t like to take the subway to school. It’s easy for them to get to school early, but there are too many people on the subway. Many subway stations are very far from school. So the subway is not convenient for students.
