3 . April Fool’s Day is on April 1st. People can play a trick on （捉弄） others on that day. It’s very popular in England and the USA. Mother’s Day is on the second Sunday in May. It’s day to thank mothers. On that day, mothers usually get flowers and cards from their children. Fathers and children do housework, so mothers can have a good rest. Thanksgiving Day is on the fourth Thursday in America. On that day, family members all get together to have a big dinner. Christmas Day comes on December 25th. It’s the most important festival in a year. Father Christmas sends presents to the children.

4 . Everyone wants to be healthy. We know food is very important to us. There is an old saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” There is lots of healthy food in our life. Fruit and vegetables are healthy food, but hamburgers and candies are not healthy food. So you can have more bananas, apples, oranges, tomatoes and onions. They are good for us. But you’d better(最好) not have too many hamburgers or candies. They are bad for us.

For drinks, juice and milk are healthy but Coke isn’t healthy. Ice-cream isn’t good either. Healthy food can make us strong and happy.

5 . A good way to pass an exam is to work hard every day in a year. You may fail in an exam if you are lazy for most of the year and then work hard only a few days before the exam. If you want to be good at English, you have to read stories in English. And speak English as much as possible. A few days before the exam you should go to bed early. Do not go to bed late at night for studying. Before you start the exam, read carefully over the question paper, try to understand the exact meaning of each question. When you have at last finished your exam, read over your answers. Correct the mistakes if there are any and be sure that you have not missed anything out.

6 . Jogging is good for us and helps us live longer and healthier lives. It’s easy to do and free. You do not have to spend money jogging. You can do it in a park or even in your home. But many people find it boring after jogging for a while. Then how can we keep jogging fun? Here are some ideas to make your jogging more interesting.

First, you should choose to wear your favourite sports clothes and shoes when you jog. They make you more comfortable and more likely to run.

Always jog outdoors (户外). By changing your route and choosing another street, you will always have something interesting to enjoy when you jog.

Take along (随身携带) your MP3 player and listen to your favourite songs when you jog. The music can make you excited and run farther without feeling bored.

It’s always more enjoyable with a friend. Make friends while jogging. Join a running club, find a new running partner, or invite an old friend to go jogging. It’s better to find a friend who runs a little faster than you. Then you can try to catch up with(追上) him or her.

7 . Do you often see ants? If the weather is warm, you may see them under the stones. If it is cold, many ants will be in their house under the ground.

Most of the ants are workers. They have lots of work to do. They look for food and take care of the young ants. Each family of ants has a queen ant. The queen doesn’t work at all. She is important because she lays eggs. These eggs will become new ants.

There are many kinds of ants in America. One kind of these is very strong. They can kill and eat elephants. They move in groups. They eat all the animals they meet while moving on their way. When these ants come near, people leave their homes.

9 . Climbing a mountain is hard work. But one step after another finally brings a person to the top. Along the way, he can stop and look around. And the higher he climbs, the more wonderful his view is. If he keeps climbing, he will have a new world in front of him. He will have a new way to see everything.

Now learning a foreign language is something like climbing a mountain. This new language can give you a new view of life. And it is more than a look at the surface of things.

It can open the way into people’s minds and hearts and into a culture that is very different from your own culture. This will make you richer in things that money can’t buy. Even though you never set foot on a ship or a plane, you can be an armchair traveler through books.

The mountain climber stops now and then to enjoy the scenery around him. Reading is just like this. If you are interested in it, you will find fun in books.

10 . Lots of families in England have one or two pets (宠物). Dogs are their favorite pets and there are about 6,000,000 of them in England. The second favorite animals are cats (about 5,000,000). And other kinds of animals are about 1,000,000.

Some families do not keep cats or dogs. They keep other animals as pets in their homes. The English people take care of their pets. They give them nice names: Rover, Rex, Cindy, or Misty for dogs; Albert, Snowy, Fluffy or Tom for cats; Guy, Scamper or Shipley for monkeys. When they speak of their pets, they say “He”, “She”, not “It”.

The English people give their pets nice food to eat. They buy food for their pets in pet shops. The English people are pet lovers.
