Many of us don’t pay much attention to the importance of eye care. It is said that if you take care of your body, then you can surely be healthy. That is why our eyes should be given a lot of care. Natural eye care should be put in a number one place.
There are several causes leading to poor eyesight like not enough food, genes(基因)and aging(老化). Televisions, computers and reading are also the causes of having poor eyesight. If you happen to work in front of the computer, it is best to take a break every once in a while.
Something dirty can cause redness and they will make you feel uncomfortable. It is bad for your eyes too. If this happens, the best way is to clean your eyes by using cold water. You must also try your best to protect your eyes from harmful things. For example, sunglasses are not just for fashion(时尚)but they can also serve as a great way to protect your eyesight from UV rays.
Eating healthy foods will do good to your eyesight. Remember that vitamins A, C and E are good for eyes. Try to eat food groups that have these vitamins. And you should do eye exercises because exercise protects your eyesight too. If a person exercises regularly(定期地)and eats the right kind of food, his eyes will stay in good condition for a long time.
All above are natural ways of eye care that help us keep healthy eyes. Being happy all the time can be helpful to a person’s eyesight, too. In a word, eye care is very important, no matter how old a person is.

Students usually prefer to study in environments with light colors. They say the light colors make them feel more relaxed, but researchers have found the opposite works better.
According to a study from Curtin University in Australia, the students’ concentration(专注) levels are higher when they are in environments with bright colors. In the study, the students were asked to read a passage and answer questions in rooms with different colors. They were light and bright blue, red and yellow. The students’ reading comprehension(阅读理解) scores were higher in the bright red and yellow rooms.
Aseel Al-Ayash, one of the researchers in the study, said, “Bright colors can support students’ learning performance by positively(积极地) affecting physical and mental states. If the reading tasks are difficult, the bright colour conditions may increase excitement to the best levels.” Several past studies have shown that the colors red and yellow are more stimulating(有刺激作用的) than blue and green.
However, two-thirds of the students in the study believed that bright red wasn’t a suitable colour for a study room. They connected the colour with depression(沮丧), discomfort, anger, danger and things like that. But they could improve their learning results by using the colour—so perhaps a bit of discomfort is what they need.
Maybe in the future, red and yellow will be the popular colors of study areas because of the study.

Do some housework, make an English video to introduce a Chinese custom, read aloud Home Letters by Fu Lei, run for an hour every day.
These things are part of the winter holiday homework of Ma Yan, an eighth-grader from Tianjin. During the first long holiday after the “double reduction” policy(双减政策)was introduced, Ma found herself doing more practice-based learning instead of always having her nose in workbooks(练习册). “I felt more relaxed this holiday, since the homework is clearly much less and more enjoyable,” said Ma. With more free time, Ma said she could also develop new hobbies like skating and stargazing(天文观测).
Like Ma, many junior high school students welcomed the changes brought by the policy. Liu Yang, 14, said she visited the Tianjin Science and Technology Museum, as part of her homework. “We did some experiments there. It’s more fun than memorizing things from books,” Liu said. Another big difference for Liu is that she doesn’t have tutoring classes(课外辅导班)anymore. “This gives me more time to play badminton and I gradually(逐渐)get healthier.”
Some students, however, feel anxious(焦虑的) about the changes. “I used to take many tutoring classes, but now I’ve lost their instruction(指导) and need to make progress on my own,” said ninth-grader Zhou Xiuwei from Nanjing, “I felt more stressed this holiday.”
The goal of the double reduction policy, according to Wang Jian, director of the education department at Shanghai Normal University(上海师范大学)is to let students learn more efficiently(有效地)and develop all-round abilities. “It’s challenging for students to be independent and self-directed(自主的)learners, but this will help them become more creative and find their true gifts,” Wang told XinminWeekly(新民周报).

6 . When we think of the Olympic, a few things come to mind immediately: the sportsmen and sportswomen marching (齐步走) in during the opening ceremonies (开幕式), proudly carrying their country’s flag; the exciting awarding (颁发) of gold, silver and bronze (铜牌) medals to winners; the torch (火炬) and other unforgettable Olympic moments. Yet there is no greater symbol for the Olympics than the Olympic rings (环).
Have you ever wondered about the five rings used to symbolize the Olympics and what its colors may mean? Here’s an inside look at what the Olympic rings symbolize and their history.
The Olympic rings are a symbol nearly as old as the Games themselves. The first Olympics was held in 1896. Pierre de Coubertin, a French historian and the founder of the International Olympic Committee (国际奥委会), created the rings in 1913. He drew the coloured rings at the top of a letter he had written.
The five rings stand for the union (联合) of five parts of the world - Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and America. And according to the IOC, “the Olympic symbol shows the activity of the Olympic Movement (运动) and the meeting of sportsmen and sportswomen from all over the world at the Olympic Games.” In addition, the five rings must be the same in size. This is meant to show the idea that all of the world’s continents (大洲) are equal (相等的) at the Games.
Traditionally, the Olympic rings appear in five different colours on a white background. The colours of the rings from left to right are blue, yellow, black, green and red. Unlike the popular belief, the five colours of the Olympic rings do not directly stand for individual (个别的) continent. Instead, the five, colours, along with white, were chosen because at least one of them appeared on all the national flags at the time when Coubertin created the design (设计).
Since 1912, many more countries have taken part in the Olympic Games. After more than a century, the Olympic rings remain a powerful symbol of the event (赛事).

Hospitals are doing experiments with tele-medicine. Tele-medicine is a technology. With the help of high-speed communication networks (网络), doctors can “see” patients (病人) without them being in the same place.
Tele-medicine is already in wide use in some places such as the USA and Germany. At both ends of the line, the way of video-meeting lets them see and talk to each other. Blood pressure (血压) and body temperature are directly (直接地) shown on computers. Among other uses, village doctors hold “consultations (会诊)” with far-away experts (专家). The experts can also help them during operations.
Tele-medicine has been slow to reach Asia because of high costs, and other reasons. When things improve, this technology will develop very fast. Chinese University of Hong Kong’s medical school has joined a big hospital in Beijing, and Thailand (泰国) is building a tele-medicine station connecting 20 areas.
Tele-medicine will do good to patients because doctors from different places can see them and give their medical advice. The help is very important if the disease is an unusual one. It also helps to spread medical knowledge among experts.
As tele-medicine develops well, it will be cheaper and more popular in the medical field (领域).

October 31st is Halloween. Where does Halloween come from? The Celts (居尔特人) think October 31st is the last day of their year and they think ghosts (鬼魂) come back to Earth on this day. So people treat the ghosts and then lead them away by wearing strange costurnes. Today a lot of people around the world celebrate this old festival. They usually dress up, have parties and tell stories about ghosts. Children play games at Halloween parties.
The following games are for children:
1. Ask your friends to bring a pumpkin lantern to the party. Give a present to the best one.

I work in an animal hospital and help people with their pets. I also have my experiences (经历) of losing pets—three of my cats died (死亡). So here I want to share with you some ways to deal with pets’ death. I hope the following tips will help you move on in some way.
●Let it out. Let yourself cry (哭) so that you can let out all your negative emotions (消极情绪).
●Talk about it. Spend some time with your family or friends and talk things out.
●Distract(转移) yourself from pain (痛苦). You can take a walk, listen to music, or read your favorite books. You can also just make yourself a good cup of tea.

10 . William Black described the eyes as “the windows of the soul”. Our eyes are the windows through which we see the world around us. Either way, there’s no question that we place great value(珍视) on our eyes and our eyesight. Surveys have shown that of the five senses, sight is the one that people fear losing the most.
Thinking about the important function of our eyes, we’d give them the best care possible, but sometimes we get too busy or forget to do a few simple things that can keep our eyes healthy.
Protecting your eyes starts with the food on our plate. Remember when you were a kid and your mum told you that carrots would improve your eyesight. Well, she might be right. Proper food will keep your eyes strong and healthy.
Give up your daily habits that could seriously injure your eyes. Always wear sunglasses in a sunny day to protect your eyes from Ultraviolet ray(紫外线). Rest your eyes 20 minutes from computer screen by looking 20 feet away for seconds. At least every 2 hours, get up and take a 15-minute break when working at a computer.
Make sure your eyes do not get injured in the first place. You should try to prevent(预防) injuries whether you’re playing sports or doing housework. You should also know when to wear sun glasses and what kinds will work best for you.
Last but not least, get your eyes examined regularly. Eye exams can help find some eye diseases(疾病). It’s important to find these diseases early on, when they’re easier to treat(治疗).
