文章大意:本文主要介绍了中国的传统节日——清明节。
1 . 任务型阅读。

Every April, there is a special day when people remember and honor their ancestors. It is called Tomb-Sweeping Day, also known as Qingming Festival. This year, the day falls on April 4th.

Tomb-Sweeping Day is a traditional Chinese festival. It began over 2000 years ago. A well-known poem by the Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu describes the day, “(1) Rains fall heavily as Qingming comes, and passersby with lowered spirits go.”

Tomb-Sweeping Day (2)_______ a public holiday on the Chinese mainland since 2008. On this day, families bring flowers, food and wine to their ancestors’ tombs. They put food like cakes and fruits in front of the tombs. After that, they sweep the dirt off the tombs and remember their dead family members.

Why do Chinese people do this? That’s because people think that visiting tombs during Qingming Festival is to show respect to their dead family members.

However, Tomb-Sweeping Day is not only about this. During that time, the weather is getting warmer. So Tomb-Sweeping Day also means finally being able to garden and enjoying outdoor activities in China. Families often get together for outings or to fly kites at this time.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了从古至今人们写作习惯的变化过程以及其原因。

2 . In ancient times, people usually wrote from right to left in vertical columns(竖列). But now, we write from left to right in horizontal (横行). Why did this change? (A)This has to do with the writing tools and habits that people had at that time.

Before paper was created, people wrote on bamboos. They wrote from top to bottom on one piece and then another. These bamboos were connected together into one long passage and rolled up. People usually held it with their right hand and opened it with their left hand. Therefore, it is more convenient to start writing from the right-hand side.

In 1917, linguist(语言学家) Qian Xuantong wrote a letter to the New Culture Movement leader Chen Duxiu. He suggested writing Chinese from left to right. He said that if we used our right hands to write, it would be easier to begin from the left and more comfortable to read. (B)然而,他的想法并没有被广泛接受.

In the early 1950s, famous overseas Chinese businessman Chen Jiageng and Chinese writer Guo Moruo raised this advice again. They thought that the area seen from left to right was much wider than the area seen from up to down. In this way, writing and reading sideways will reduce eye fatigue(疲劳).

Gradually, newspapers, magazines and books were printed in horizontal rows. And people began writing from left to right instead of writing from right to left. Now people have been used to writing from left to right in rows.

3 . Born in the 2000s, what do you think of your generation(一代人)? Young, creative, connected, global, smart, maybe good-looking? But what do other people think about your generation?

Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the phone than the world around you. They see you as the “face-down generation” and wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family.A)当今的青少年忙于发信息、拍照片。 Are they serious enough to become successful in real life-or “TRL”, as you would say?

Other adults worry that today’s youth are spoiled(溺爱) and don’t want to face the challenges of adult life. Does the face-down generation need a heads-up? Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today’s teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They also seem to be willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to serve their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls’ rights to go to school.

7 . Have you heard of the word “hygge? It’s a Danish(丹麦的)word as well as a Danish lifestyle. There is no English word for the exact meaning of “hygge”, according to Oxford Dictionaries. It might be translated to coziness(惬意)in English, but it is more than that.

Enjoying beautiful music or having a movie night is hygge Lighting candles or making real tea in china cups—that’s hygge too. There’s nothing more hygge than sitting around a table with your family or friends, discussing the big and small things in life. (A)This lifestyle focuses on the idea of making simple daily activities special or meaningful.

In Denmark, there can be up to 17 hours of darkness per day in winter, and the average temperature is around 0℃. As a result, people spend plenty of time indoors and focus on home entertaining.

Now the idea of hygee is travelling abroad and becoming a trend in some parts of the world too. In the UK and the US, there are more and more hygge-themed cookbooks and lifestyle guides, as well as Danish restaurants, cafes and bars. “The rest of the world seems to be slowly waking up to what Danes have been wise to for ages.” Helen Russell, author of The Year of Living Danishly, said.

8 . After months of study, you have some time to relax. So, why not read a book? Well, some people will say, “Why trouble with books? We have the Internet and other media (媒体) that offer a lot more colorful programs. Books are history!” But don’t be fooled. There’s still a lot to be said for reading.

One clear reason is that a well-chosen book is a wonderful collection of words and expression. If you have a good dictionary, I think it’s far easier to get standard (标准的) English than from the TV or the Internet.

An even more important reason is that books give you something that media can not. The web page is always full of pictures and the text is often designed to make it as easy to read as possible. Though “easy” may be welcome, unluckily it’s of little use for any long-time development of reading skills and the general language level. For that, there’s still no substitute (替代品) for a book.

However, perhaps the best reason is that simply choosing what you read and doing it by yourself means that it’s something you do by and for yourself. You can choose what you want to read. It’s hard work, but while you are reading, you’ll find that what once seemed like a duty is now a pleasure. In a word, reading books can bring us pleasure.

9 . We sometimes say the lion is "the king of the jungle" because it is stronger and more dangerous than the other animals in the jungle. It can run faster than most other animals and it can hunt better. The lion is the highest animal in the land food chain. In the sea the shark is at the top of the food chain. It can swim faster than most other sea animals. It can also use its big teeth to catch other sea animals and eat them. What is at the top of the world's food chain? Humans are! We are not the biggest or fastest, but we are the cleverest. We could not run faster than most animals, so we invented cars and now we can move fastest. We could not fight better than lions, so we invented guns. Now we can hunt the best.

People's inventions are clever, but they can be dangerous, too. For example, many years ago, in Inner Mongolia, (A) people used guns to kill a lot of wild wolves. The wild wolves usually eat wild rabbits. But in recent years, the number of wild rabbits is becoming bigger and bigger because the number of wild wolves is getting smaller and smaller. The wild rabbits competed for the grass with the sheep and cows. (B) Much of the grassland became desert because it was seriously destroyed by the rabbits.

Remember that we are part of the food chain, so we are in danger, too! If we protect animals, we are protecting ourselves.

10 . Today more and more people want to live in big cities, but what can be done to help them live in crowded cities like Tokyo? Many architects( 建 筑 师 ) are looking for ways to solve this problem. 25-year-old Haseef Rafiei has caught the world’s attention because of his special skyscraper concept(摩天大楼概 念)—“Pod Vending Machine” skyscraper.

Haseef comes from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He is now a student of Manchester School of Architecture. He got his idea form a trip to Japan. He noticed vending machines are popular in Japan. He said, “Vending machines make buying easy and interesting.” After seeing vending machines have made such a difference to people’s lives, Haseef thought, “Why not build skyscrapers that act the same way?”

Haseef’s “Pod Vending Machine” skyscraper can act as a home vending machine. If people want to buy houses in the skyscraper, they can choose the types of pods(吊舱) they’d like to live in and what the inside of the pods looks like. Then the large 3D printer at the top of skyscraper can get the pods printed and then cranes ( 起 重 机 ) can get the pods placed.
