1 . Proverbs(谚语)are popular around the world. They are short expressions that usually pass on some type of wisdom. Many proverbs give advice about how to live. Some proverbs are hundreds of years old, but people still use them today.

In different situations, people use proverbs to express special meanings. For example, my son is just like his father in many ways. We often say the two of them prove the proverb: “The apple does not fall far from the tree.” I also tell my children “Two wrongs do not make a right.” You should not do something bad just because someone did the same to you. 5 . Some animals can be trained to help humans. For example, specially trained dogs help blind people walk around the town safely. Some kinds of monkeys can be taught things too. They can learn how to help people who can't use their arms or legs. The monkeys pick up the phone when it rings, carry shopping bags and do housework.

In the wild, animals and humans are not usually friends, but there are a few interesting examples where they can work together. In Africa, the honeyguide bird works with humans to find food. The bird likes to eat the grubs (幼虫) — a type of insect that lives inside a beehive (蜂巢,蜂窝). It knows how to find beehives but it can't open them and get the grubs. People like to eat honey, but they aren't very good at finding beehives, so the bird and the people help each other. The bird flies to a beehive and people follow it. When the people open the beehive and take the honey, they give the grubs to the bird.

In Laguna in the south of Brazil, fishermen and dolphins work as a team. The ocean isn't very clean, so the fishermen can't see the fish. However, dolphins can find them easily by using sounds.   When the dolphins find a large group of fish, they make a noise to tell the fishermen. Then the dolphins push the fish to the beach. The fishermen wait in the water near the beach and catch a lot of fish in their nets. The fishermen's nets make it easier for the dolphins to catch fish too. 6 . The science museum is a major museum on Exhibition Road in South Kensington in London. It was founded in 1857 and today is one of the city’s main tourist attractions. In most museums, there is no shouting and no running, and you must not touch anything. However, the Science Museum is different because it is busy and noisy. People talk about what they can see and do there, and some machines(机械)also work. It’s a good way to learn about science, because you can find the answer and try the idea.

At the Science Museum, I always visit OFF Floor that is quite crowded. This is my favorite because physical experiment(实验)can be done in it. If you want to fill a bag with sand, you have to drive a kind of truck on wheels and move it into the right place. You can also find out how people travel into space and back again.

I like to visit the rooms on the second and third floors. You can learn about communications and the environment as well as math, physics, and chemistry. For example, you can find out how people dig coal from the ground and use it to create energy(能量). And in one room they even explain how X-rays let you see inside your body.

Then when we go to the fourth floor, Glimpses of Medical History, you can learn about what medicine(药)was like in the past, with exhibits of medical instrument and practices from old days and from many countries. If you compare the medicine of past with the medicine of today, you will feel very lucky next time you visit a doctor!

The Science Museum is interesting for people of all ages. You can always find something new and have a wonderful time there. You don’t need to spend money entering it, so you can go in for a few minutes or stay all day. It is open daily from 10 am. to 6 pm. There, you can do many things, but you have to follow some rules. 7 . The British development group Practical Action says the best way to prepare foods for storage(储存) is at harvest(收获) time while still in the field.

Use a sharp knife to cut the fruits and vegetables off and put them on a clean place. Do not put them on the ground. Use water to clean off dirt. Usually it is better not to pick off the leaves from fruits and vegetables before storage. Without the leaves, food can become dry.

Fruits and vegetables must be cool from field heat before they are put into storage. But cooling them in water can spread fungus(菌类) in the food. A better idea is to harvest foods either early or late in the day, then leave them to cool naturally. Some fruits and vegetables must be kept at 0℃ to 4℃. Any colder, and they might go bad. Some foods need to be kept at 4℃ to 8℃ and some need to be kept above 8 ℃ for best results.

Wet the fruits and vegetables so they do not become too dry. The best time to do this is before storage. Cover the foods in plastic(塑料) once they reach the right “critical temperature(温度)” for storage. Most fruits and vegetables need the relative humidity(湿度) in storage to be kept between 85 and 95 percent.

Finally, leave space between the foods and the walls of the cold storage area so air can go around. Keep the space clean. And try not to open the doors too often.

10 .

The Intelligent Transport team at Newcastle university has turned an electric car into a mobile laboratory named "DriveLAB" in order to understand the challenges faced by older driver. So that they can discover what the old really need while driving. Research shows that giving up driving is one of the key reasons for a tall in health and happiness among older people. It may make them become more lonely.

Led by Professor Phil Blythe, the Newcastle team is developing some new technologies that are used inside cars. They want to make it possible to help older drivers to continue driving into later life. These technologies include custom-made navigation (定制导航) tools, night vision (可视) systems and intelligent speed systems. Phil Blythe explains: For many older people, particularly those living alone or in the country, driving is important for keeping their independence, giving them the freedom to get out without having to depend on others. But we all have to accept that fact: as we get older, we do everything more and more slowly. As a result, it's difficult for older people to avoid any possible dangers while they are driving. And many of them will lose confidence in their driving skills. The result is that people stop driving before they really need to."

Dr Amy Guo, the leading researcher on the older driver study, explains, "The DriveLAB is helping us to understand what the key points and difficulties are for older drivers and how we might use technology to solve these problems." For example, most of us would expect older drivers to go slower than everyone else. but surprisingly, we found that in 30mph zones (区域), they try to keep at a constant speed. Some of them even break the speed limit (限制) and face to be punished. We're going out of our way to set up systems which can control their speed as a way of preventing that.

"We hope that our work will help with technological solutions to make sure that older drivers stay safer behind the wheel."

1. What is the purpose of the DriveLAB?
A.To repair some old carsB.To design new types of cars.
C.To find out older driver's problems.D.To teach people traffic rules.
2. Why is driving important for older people according to Phil Blythe?
A.It keeps them independent.B.It helps them save time.C.It builds up their creativity.D.It is good for their health.
3. What do researchers hope to do for older drivers?
A.Improve their driving skills.B.Help them continue to drive cars.
C.Recycle iron from their old cars.D.Organize a driving club for the old.
4. The expression "constant speed" in Paragraph3 probably means "________" in Chinese.
A.超速B.限速C.匀速D.极速
5. What is the best title for the passage?
A.A New Model Electric CarB.A Solution To Traffic Problem
C.Service From DriveLABD.Keeping Older Drivers On The Road
