1 . As we all know, the "rice bowl" culture of China has influenced some Asian countries such as Japan, Korea and Vietnam since we started to use chopsticks while eating food.

Chopsticks are usually two long thin pieces of wood or bamboo. They can also be made of plastic, animal bone or metal. The most important thing is that chopsticks are a great invention in China.

Five thousand years ago people usually cooked their food in large pots, using twigs(小树枝)to remove it. As the population grew, people began cutting food into small pieces. Food in small pieces could be eaten easily with twigs by people. And twigs were gradually changed into chopsticks.

Some people think that the famous scholar Confucius living from about 551 BC to 479 BC pushed the development of chopsticks. Confucius believed that using chopsticks instead of knives would remind people to stay away from killing and violence at table.

We enjoy our delicious food with our family members or friends while feeling the peaceful and people-loving world by using chopsticks at table anytime.

2 . On May 17, 2019 China launched a new satellite at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center(西昌卫星发射中心). It was the forty-fifth Beidou satellite that China had sent into space.

So what is Beidou?

Beidou is a Satellite Navigation(satnav)system(卫星定位系统). It is developed by China. The first satnav system is GPS, which belongs to the United States. GPS is the world's leading satnav system. But China's Beidou has overtaken(超过)GPS in size. China is the third country in the world to have its own satnav system, after the United States and Russia. With Beidou, China no longer has to depend on foreign systems. This is very important for national safety. As of right now, over 30 countries in Africa and the Middle East are using the Beidou system.

Work on Beidou began in 1994. However, the first two Beidou satellites were not sent into space until 2000. Since then, China has launched many Beidou satellites. These satellites have set up a worldwide network. Now, China is further improving the system. It plans to launch ten more Beidou satellites. If all goes well, Beidou will be completed by the end of 2020. The completed Beidou will be more powerful than any existing(现存的)satnav system.

Beidou has brought many advantages to our lives. In Shanghai, thousands of buses have been using Beidou. When we are waiting for a bus, we can know when it is about to come. Many smart phones have also been using Beidou. "Many people say' Let me turn on my GPS. 'In fact, their phones are using Beidou, "jokes a salesperson in Beijing. 3 . In Britain, Australia, Canada and a few other English speaking countries, people don’t stop celebrating when Christmas Day is over. They also celebrate the following day, known as Boxing Day. It is a popular day for giving additional(另外的)gifts. It has been celebrated for so long, but nobody exactly knows how it started.

Some people believe Boxing Day began in the Middle Ages. In those days, in some special places there were special collection boxes where people threw money for the poor. The day after Christmas the boxes were opened, and the money was counted. Then the money went to helping the poor in the area.

Others believe Boxing Day started about 300 years ago when some rich people had Christmas feasts(盛宴). They offered lots of food to their guests. Because many servants(仆人)were needed to make and serve the food, they could not celebrate Christmas with their families. To thank them, the rich people would put food into boxes for their servants to take home.

Now Boxing Day has become a public holiday in some countries. Some people spend the day boxing up old or unwanted things and donating(捐赠)them to the poor. Many people are active in helping service organizations(组织)like the Red Cross.
