文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,介绍强风和鸟类等可能会对火车造成影响。

1 . Windy days are common during spring. Did you know that strong winds can even influence trains?

On May 1, 2021, strong winds in Baoding, Hebei Province, caused a foreign thing to get caught in power lines above the railway lines, stopping some trains. Some passengers were even stuck on their trains while traveling.

High-speed trains receive power from wires (电线) hung above the railway lines, according to Worldwide Rails, a rail news website. As an important power source for high-speed trains, why are these lines so easy to break in the face of wind.

The line itself is strong, but too many light things can still influence them. Kite wires are one of the biggest problems for railway workers. If one end of a kite wire touches a power line and the other end touches the ground, it will cause a short circuit (电路) on the line, causing a loss of power.

Other materials, such as tin foil (锡纸), can also cause problems. If they are blown onto train power lines, they can stop trains from getting power.

In many cases, train workers have to remove foreign things from power lines themselves. The bigger the foreign thing is, the harder it is to clean up. Bird nests are one of the most difficult.

Because of their height and strength, power lines have become a popular place for birds to make homes. Birds carefully make their homes with branches and other materials. “They keep us busy. One day we deal with one bird's nest and the next day they’ll build another,” a Xiamen train worker told Xiamen TV. How to solve? To make man-made nests and put them along the lines to fool birds into thinking the place is taken.

2 . What are you going to do if you are in a burning house? How will you escape? Do you know how to save yourself? Please read the following passage.

Escaping from a fire is a serious matter. Knowing what to do during a fire can save your life. It’s important to know the ways you can use and show them to everyone in the family, such as stairways and fire escapes, but not elevators.

From the lower floors of the buildings, escaping through windows is possible. Learn the best way of leaving by windows with the least chance of serious injury. The second floor window is usually not very high from the ground. Of course, it is safer to jump a short way than to stay in a burning building.

Windows are also useful when you are waiting for help. Be sure to keep the door closed, or smoke and fire may come into the room. Keep your head low at the window to be sure you get fresh air rather than smoke that may get into the room.

On a second or third floor, the best windows for escape are those that open onto a roof. From the roof a person can drop to the ground more safely. Dropping onto hard ground might end in injury. Bushes and grass can help to break a fall.

3 . Traveling is an exciting experience. It makes us feel pleased, and enjoy new wonders and new part of life that we’ve never known. A single holiday trip can give you the freedom and the chance to make changes that daily life does not allow. It matters little where you go on your holiday. It is all in what you make of it. Any travel can be interesting and attractive, and give you memories to last a lifetime.

Having those memories is truly what travels are all about. Many people say that a bit of a planning and research before you leave can make sure of those long-lasting memories. But why not try something unexpected? In fact, the most unforgettable moments of a travel experience are the ones that you don't plan for. Yes. Maybe you’ll experience a bad meal in an unfamiliar place. But this experience will make sure you discover little-known shops or an open-air theater production that is only advertised in the local paper.

You’ll find the enjoyable moments happening all around you: a wonderful sunset or a small child playing in the puddles of a cobble road. The magic will truly be in the trip you take. Take time to go for a long walk for enjoyment when visiting a new place, which will allow you to listen, smell, and see the different culture and sights that your busy life may stop you from enjoying.

4 . What's going to happen in the future? Here are some things that scientists say are the most likely to happen in 10 to 30 years.

Digital money

We used to pay with paper money for everything we bought. In fact, we have already been using one type of digital money when we use a credit card(信用卡)to shop online.

You have to say that using a card is much easier than searching your pocket for money. It is also safer than carrying a lot of money on your own. People in Sweden completely stopped using paper money last year and the US might be the next.

Bionic(仿生的)eyes

People who are blind may have a chance to get their sight back by wearing bionic eyes. A blind eye can no longer sense light, but a bionic eye can use a camera to see the environment and send the information into the brain.

Although the bionic eyes now only allow patients to see lights and unclear shapes, clear ones could appear just a few years later.

Self-driving car

Unlike a human driver, a self-driving car won't be distracted(分神)by a phone call, the radio on something outside the window. Sensors(探测器)and cameras on the car would allow it to strictly obey the rules of the road and keep a safe distance from other cars. This would greatly reduce the number of road accidents. 7 . Since July 2019, Shanghai has been the first city to sort their garbage. Starting on May 1st, 2020, Beijing also became one of the members by introducing a new garbage sorting policy. Green garbage has come to China.

In the past, people put a lot of garbage into one pile and then took the garbage to landfill sites. These landfill sites, however, could pollute the land and water. So, if we can find ways to reuse or recycle more garbage, then we will cause less pollution.

The new plan asks people to put their garbage into four different boxes, one for each type of garbage. The brown box is for “wet garbage” (such as food and drink waste). The red one is for harmful waste (such as batteries and electronics). The blue one is for recyclable things (such as paper and plastic). And finally, the black one is for “dry garbage” (everything else). This “sort your garbage” plan is the same as other plans used by cities around the world. These plans have been very successful. In Canada, it's expected that 85 %of plastic will be recycled by 2025.

Why should we sort our garbage? The reason is that we are producing increasing amount of waste every year. It's reported that Chinese cities produce over 200 million tons of waste each year. Reducing that amount will surely help the environment.

However, the garbage sorting is a long journey as it takes time for people to learn and form a habit. More cities are on their way. By 2025, it's hoped most Chinese cities will complete the building of garbage sorting.

1. How do the people in Beijing and Shanghai deal with the garbage now?
A.They put the garbage into one pile and carry it to the landfill sites.
B.They sort the garbage into different boxes.
C.They change most of the garbage into something useful.
D.They throw the garbage away and burn it.
2. If you want to throw away half a bottle of juice, which box will you throw it into?
A.The brown box.B.The blue box.
C.The red box and the black box.D.The brown box and the blue box.
3. What's the structure of the passage? (P=Paragraph)
A.B.C.D.
4. Why did the writer write this passage?
A.To Sum up some right ways to protect the environment.
B.To give some successful examples of sorting garbage in some cities.
C.To show us that the landfill sites polluted the land and water.
D.To encourage people to get into the habit of sorting garbage.

8 . Let me tell you something very important: Never have water near you when you have something electric not far away! Last month, my family experienced a terrible thing.

I turned to look at Tom, and he looked strange. He was shaking. “Tom!” I shouted. He didn't move, looking straight ahead. Suddenly, my dad realized what was happening. He reached quickly for the switch and turned off the train.

The water had leaked(漏)from the bag under the board and arrived where Tom was standing. One of our wires had fallen under the table and was touching it. We sent Tom to the hospital. And luckily Tom was fine. He told us that when the electricity was on, he could not move at all!

What will you do in your spare time? Have you ever seen a windsock(风向袋) blowing in the wind? Well, you can make one of your own! This is an interesting project that you can do with things you may have. You just need to follow a few easy steps.

Prepare one piece of heavy colored paper, five ribbons(丝带), strong tape(胶带), a string and a pencil at first.

Step 1: Draw pictures on the paper. You can write your name on it. Do anything that will make it different from others.

Step 2: Make the paper into the shape of a tube(管). Then stick the tube together with the strong tape at each end and in the middle.

Step 3: Use the pencil to make a hole into both sides of the tube. The holes should be only on one end of the tube. Pull the string through both holes. Then tie the ends of the sting together.

Step4: Now make five holes around the top of the other end of the tube. Put a ribbon through each of the holes. Tie a knot in the end. Make sure the knots are bigger than the holes.
